My favroite side-scrolling platformer!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

During the golden age of the Super Nintendo and the Sega Genesis, side-scrollers were a dime a dozen. Unforetunately, it took good artists and programmers to bring out the full potential of a 16-bit system. Still, over the years we got many classics. Sonic, Mario, Donkey Kong, and let's not forget all the Disney classics (Aladdin, Lion King). When the world made the transition to 32-bit and 64-bit sytems (Saturn, Playstation, N64), there were a few good side-scrollers that came out. But the public started to demand more and more 3d games, the publishers delivered. Now, the side-scrollers are all but extinct. But the legend still lives on...

There have been many side-scrolling platforms thoughout the ages, but the original Rayman is the best in my opinion. And the Saturn version is the best version of this game. Every little bit of this awesome games simply reeks of artistic genius. The music is awesome. The background artwork (with its outstadning use of color and multiple layers) is astounding. The controls are tight, and the gameplay is supreme. And since you gain new powers as you go along (and gain access to previously unreachable parts of past levels), and there are a LOT of electoons to find, this game will have you playing for quite a while.

But more than just being a great game, this game is tons of fun. Rayman himself is full of personality, and there is tons of variety in the gameplay. In this game, you'll fly through spiked levels, slide through snow covered levels, climb like crazy through rising water levels, and even play through levels while being chased by your anti-self and with reversed controls. And if you're anything like me, you'll love every minute of it.
