impossible to control

I thought I had quite an advanced spec computer/graphic card.. clearly not. the mouse was all over the place. Joystick unusable. I could not customise the joystick buttons - logitech extreme 3d pro. The game action had no bearing on the joystick movements. So overall just too frustrating to control hence never got into actually playing the game so can't comment on the game itself. And like the user said below about trying to quit... still trying to quit after 5 times of clicking OK.. I really want to quit!

The game is OK...

When I first bought the game, it was defective... On the very first level, you get up, and walk up some weird rock stairs..except for me. You would just fall through them and die... I got a new one, and it worked. I got a pistol and shot some of the mini-crabs, and after, you can get a shotgun to kill a giant crab... I got all the way to the part where you climb out of the end of a river, and your at a weird grassy area. Right their there is way to many enemies surrounding you.. I'm stuck their, and don't really plan on plying it again for a while, unless I get it for Xbox 360. That version looks better.

Enjoyable game, but could have been better

First of all, I wouldnt be so concerned about the starforce drivers. There are programs out there that allow you to disable it or remove it from your system. Just be careful to get it from somewhere reputable so as not to put something unknown on your computer. Actually, I have this game and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory on here and have no starforce drivers at this time. (I went to disable them in my comp management and no starforce present and starforce detection tools did not find it). Boycott if you wish and I understand the motive, but will take my chances as I have never had a problem with it. So enough about that.
Now, the important stuff, onto the game. Had some headaches getting it to play properly. Had to unplug joypad, disable that device, and then have to disable one of my cores on amd processor in order to get it to run properly. I have a new computer and had to turn the graphics down on this one to get it to run smoothly while I can play about every other game I own maxed out or near maxed out.
Pros: The graphics are nice on the enemies. The T-rex especially looks awesome and really freaked me out running whilst confronting it. Game saves often, so if you die, you dont have to go back much.
Cons: The viewable area seems decreased from the normal. Kind of like you are running around zoomed in at 1.5x all the time. I prefer blasting my way thru games, and you are always running around with very little, if any, ammo. Fortunately there are an abundance of spears and poking devices around to use. Gameplay is very linear. The graphics on everything but the enemies are not good. It is hard to look around and to navigate, and the sensitivity of the mouse seems to go crazy on me where it is fast then slow (might be my mouse going nuts)
Summary: I would have told you to never buy this game before I got chased by the T-rex and it changed my story. Buy it if you can get a good price on it and enjoy it for what it is. Linear gameplay loosely following the movie. I have been very impressed with every ubisoft game I have played up until this one. Not terrible, but could have been much much better.

cool, but annoying

for some reason the creators of the game decided to follow a completely differant storyline than the movie, so i dont know why its called the official game.
this game is highly addictive but one downside is, kong suck. i know, i know how could i say kong sucks, its not him its the way the gamemakers made his controls and graphics, thats why he sucks.
all in all, great game, but dread becoming kong.

Beautiful-Linear-Short

There's actually not much of a game in this one. It's basically a play-through-story in a lot of cases, and the entire game feels like it's on a rail. This is especially true of the kong levels..which are pretty much just narrow lanes to jump through with a small boss arena at the end.

This almost gives the game an arcade feeling--with the camera scripted to react differently almost every single second of a kong level.

The Jack levels are a lot better, and in most cases are actually fun. The game is still linear, but the game does fall back on open-spaces-then-chokepoint-then-another-openspace design principles, which can get old.

Still, there's a real nice beauty about kong. If you've seen the movie, you know how 'moody' Jackson strove to make Skull island--the gray wall, the dense jungle, the thick swarms of insects--it all translates VERY well. Constant rainstorms, the roll of thunder, the maze of corridors atop the wall, the alley of dinosaurs to dodge and run through, the bleak, dense, and dangerous swamps...though it's a linear ride, it's a very very pretty one--worth the budget price even in my opinion.

This game is total garbage..

The designers of King Kong could not care less if their program works or not. This is the single most buggy program I've ever owned. Its worthless.

Just a thought ...

Why is it that UbiSoft designed this film-based game so that the gamer plays as Jack Driscoll, a more or less supporting character albeit a male. The real hero of Peter Jackson's film is a heroINE, Ann Darrow, whose (unlikely) heroism is defined not just by number of rescues but by the measures of her heart. Sure Jack saves her from Kong, but did Ann really want to be saved? I admit, it'd be weird to play this game as Ann, but being forced to play as Jack is right away a turn off from trying this game. So I havent tried the game, having been turned off by this fact, and the player reviews here are terrible. (I rated it two stars arbitrarily.) I'll be waiting for the DVD, instead...

I am a new computer owner and have never played a computer video game before. I must say I'm very happy with the King Kong game.

If you are a fan of dinosaurs or King Kong you will love this game.

It is very well done and the graphics are great.

I watch my husband play his many computer video games so I know how to judge a good game.

I'm very happy I purchased the game. It is giving me lots of hours of fun.

Love Sunrises

Game is unique and fun.

First of all, please disregard any review that complains about Starforce. It has no bearing on the game. If you even halfway maintain your computer Starforce will not be an issue. I have 6 Ubisoft games installed that have Starforce and I have never had one crash, or any problems using my DVD-RW. Now on to the game.

This game takes some getting used to at first due to some of the controls-mainly using space to arm your weapon. I like this feature though because I feel like I'm not playing your average run of the mill FPS. The graphics are good, the sound is well done, and the story sticks pretty close to the movie. I haven't reached the part where I get to play as Kong, but the game so far has been fun. If you are looking for something fun that is somewhat different then try this game.

So far So Good-It pays to keep an old CD-R Drive

Just got this at Wal Mart for 20 bucks, i'm guessing the price drop from 40 to 20 was because of lack of sales and all the "issues" people have had, which i totally do believe. In buying the game i finally though hmm i'll just hook up the old external CD-R drive to my laptop(which has a DVD-Burner) so that i won't take any risks of @%#ing it up. Well happily i was right the old external CD-burner worked fine, installed the game with no problem. Once the game is installed its pretty awesome, even though i just started AND just rented the movie i kinda get the jist of where the game is going. I have a Qosmio Toshiba Laptop with a Geforce Go 6600FX and even on high resolution plays smooth as silk, and so far looks good. I'll keep updating if i run into any problems, but as it stand now this looks to be quite a good adventure game. Note-Go to walmart to get your games, i got 3 for 65 bucks, this one, Serious Sam 2, and Stubbs the Zombie(which i don't like), great deal. Also as long as it "looks" sealed they will take it right back. hehe I really think they should be WAY more leanient on PC games anyways. So get ya an old external burner from someone to play KK on, if not i wouldnt risk it on your DVD-R-RW.
