Very fun... but

This game is very fun. It holds your interest throughout the game. I think the graphics are just amazing. There aren't many characters, and I think some of the voice actors play more than one character.

There were two really hard puzzles. One made absolutely no sense. This is one when you're in the German mines where you have to build a rat trap, catch a rat from this insanely hard-to-find rat hole at the edge of one screen, and then tie dynamite to the rat and put it in a hole in order to open the secret door. That is just horrible! Why can't use just use the dynamite on the secret door instead of having to murder a rat in the process! Also, there is no hint at all that you need the rat, I had to look this thing up.

The other puzzle is a really hard puzzle with colored stones when you are in Mexico. It took me like 4 days and much frustration to solve. The problem was that I messed with it, and then saved so I couldn't use any of the walkthroughs that go from when you didn't move anything. I thought I would have to stop playing the game, but I finally got it to work. Let's just say it reminded me of my trials with Rubik's Cube... :-)

My last comment is that I was extremely annoyed by the main character. There is one scene where he insults a homeless woman again and again, and it almost made me cry because I could not do anything to change it.

I was going to give this 4, but I am changing it to 3 because of the homeless woman thing! Black Mirror is the same interface, and I enjoyed it a lot more, but this game is worth the money ($10?) because it has a lot of gameplay and the story holds your interest.

"Mild" Language?

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 7 / 20

I am a big fan of adventure games in general, and got this game on vacation this summer. I had only played it a few minutes when there was a d**n and h**l. I expected this. In my mind that is "mild" language, however, that is not the extent of the severity of the language. Immediately following these words was a G-d**n. I really hate to spell it out, but I am a Christian and this type of language really offends me. I quit playing at this point, so I don't know how much more language there was (but judging by other reviews that I read elsewhere, there was quite a bit more of the same type). Other than the language this game looked very promising. The graphics were really nice, and the voice acting was good (just not what they were saying!). Just to be fair to the company, when I complained to them, they were really great about it and willingly replaced my game for a more appropriate fit.
As a note: I would just like to say that I know that my opinion here will not be popular with some people, but I stand by it just the same. Thanks for reading! I hope this review was helpful.

13th planet...arbitrary puzzle solutions

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 1 / 2

This is an old-style "adventure" game of the "director" sort, but with beautiful graphics. I just wish there were more games of this genre available. The price is right for this game.

The game's biggest defect is the arbitrariness of the puzzle solutions...there is unfortunately little logic or reasoning involved in some of them, like the "use banana with metronome" puzzle of an earlier era. It is therefore very important to save "early and often," to avoid being trapped by what appear to be irreversible detours down the wrong path. The game is definitely NOT non-linear.

Nice to look at but...

This game had some fun, nice looking graphics. Some of the interactions and tasks were very strange and non-ituitive like a homeless woman who won't give you any info unless you brought her a hotdog made only a certain. The story was developing in an interesting way until the finale. What the heck? It was very stupid and disappointing and you didn't even get anything in return for all of your hard work just a piece of some alien machinery that didn't work anymore. It wasn't terribly difficult but I enjoyed it as a pleasant diversion and it had some clever ideas. As for the previous comment about language, it was random and unnecessary and the speech throughout the game was stilted at times but the language was not pervasive and the rating "mild language" was appropriate.

Meh

I really did not appreciate this game at all. I love the Adventure Company, puzzle, and Myst-type games. But this just didn't meet my expectations; luckily I waited for it to come down to ten dollars before buying it (it is almost worth ten dollars).

The voice acting was pretty terrible, the protagonist being the worst, most stilted voice in the game. And he was a jerk.

The puzzles, that is the real puzzles, were unimpressive but at least a little challenging. The rest of the game seemed to be filler with boring dialogue and "run around and collect stuff" plot.

Lastly, the game was buggy for me. Perhaps it is because I am running Vista. But it would frequently crash during a save or load--which is rather annoying.

The scenery was pretty, but not well done for a second person, two dimensional setting. The scenes in Syberia were much nicer.

I really don't recommend this game at all, unless you're a hardcore adventure gamer and have the time to kill.
