3rd-person zombie video game, done dozens of times before. 3rd-person zombie video game where you are the zombie! awesome. Add in a retro-future background and you have a classic in the making.
You are Edward "Stubbs" Stubblefield, former traveling salesman, former deinzen in the realm of the living. It's 1959 and you have risen from your grave 30 years after your death. It's time to find out what happened, and eat anyone's brain who gets in the way! Obviously not for the younger crowd, as the game features copious amounts of gore and violence (amoung other things, including the manner in which you must contaminate the local water supply).
Basically, the premise of the game is: you walk around, run into everyday folk, attack and/ or devour their brain, repeat as necessary, watch your zombie army amass from your vicitms, enjoy the chaos that ensues as you slowly disable the city of the future. Your zombie cohorts aren't as versatile as you are, and are best used in large numbers against the un-armed and armed citizens of Punchbowl, PA. But wait, you do have more powers than clawing the people and snacking on their skulls. Exploding intestines, beating people with their own limbs, possesion (a la Thing from the Addam's Family), bowling your head off... literally, and the staple of low-brow comedy: flatulance. And if you didn't think that was enough Stubbs can hop in certain vehicles and cruise around areas of the town.
I thought the game lacked a bit in the story telling department, but I also acknowledge the fact that the main character is a zombie, it might be a bit difficult to assemble a top-notch story based on this. The only other down side is the zombie mayhem doesn't quite last as much as I had wanted it to in each level... but then again I would have been happy just staying in the first levels and eating the respwaning people for hours on end so that gripe may be overstated.
Overall the game proves challenging enough and is one of the most fun (in that mindless kind of way) games out there. I would give the game 4.5 stars overall, but I am rounding up for originality. With the great replayability and decent pricing this is a game you should definitely pick up, especially if the whole zombie brain-eating premise combined with a great amount of humor appeals to you.

This game uses the invasive Starforce drivers. This form of copy protection causes a lot of issues on your computer including shutting down CD/DVD drives and often times barring you from a game you legitimately own. I purchased this game and had multiple issues related to the driver. It locked me from playing and would reset my computer at boot up. Finally managed in Safe Mode to figure out what was causing it and deleted the stupid thing. WASTE OF MONEY. Legitimate game companies don't need to resort to cheap tricks like that.

Great, another game I have to give to charity. I wish I would have read Jeremy's review before purchasing: haste makes waste.
I know people who have had STARFORCE related issues. I've read forums where many have had problems with STARFORCE and had more problens when trying to remove STARFORCE. Plus, more drivers; another way for viruses to get into my computer.
Maybe I'll learn to wait for reviews before purchasing ?
No StarForce

The copy protection on Stubbs the Zombie is NOT StarForce, but version 7 of SecuROM. SecuROM will still hog resources and block virtual CD emulators, but does not open up the same security holes as StarForce. So have a decent PC and some hefty RAM if you want to play Stubbs smoothly. Or if you have a concole, buy the console version of the game instead.

As previous costumers have either loved it or hate it philosophy, toward this game, one must realize that the manufacture describes the minimum and the recommended system to run this particular software is preformance, I would lean toward more the higher end, than the lower, even though some people may that the same enjoyment. Also I would place or install it on a partition that different than my OS was operating on; meaning "D:/" or etc. This could prevent some problems which other have had previously mentioned. Other that being a zombie isn't that bad only thing that there is no score or reward for eating the victim's brains or beating them senseless. It's a B-movie theme and hold to true with the "B" meaning BAD, either in a good perspective or actually bad. Enjoy.
What a Fun Ride!

Stubbs is a dead traveling salesman from the 30's who comes back to life to eat the brains of the humans who have built a city over his grave in this camp take off on zombie movies. It is hilarious: imagine --you are Stubbs and you attack a couple parked on lover's lane making out. You eat thier brains and transform them into units in your zombie army. The new brainless zombies walk off to do your bidding while Cake sings "If I only had a brain" from the Wiz of Oz. Hilarious. The team that designed Halo brings you Stubbs. What better credentials. The negative cap-trap of some other reviews is misinformed and probably a sabotage job from competitors. This is a great game--driven by the Halo engine.
The copy protection on the game ruins the game

I can't even enjoy the game because I fear installing it would destroy my system.
At the end of the installation process it asks to install some dll files and such. Half-Life 2 has something like this, but it is slightly more legitimate as it doesn't start installing oddly named files.
Don't buy this game for PC, as you won't be able to enjoy it legitamtely.
Ohh, the pain.... the HORROR!

You're a hunched over zombie. You move slow, you slap people, you thow your intestines and they explode, you bowl your head and it explodes, and you fart.
There's really no story to this game. Blood guts and gore just don't make a good game.
Walk slow, slap at an enemy, suck his brain, repeat, repeat, repeat...
Every now and then is a cut scene for the poorly written plot (The cheif of police is mad at you, oh what a plot).
Though its first person, everything is slower (not because my PC is slow, you're just walking through the entire game). Slow action, since you have to walk up to your enemies.
Yawn.
Spend your 49.99 on ANY other game, you're sure to have more fun, and a more stimulating experience... maybe with a plot.
BTW... the copy protection doesn't slow down your PC. If you have the software to detect it and the type, your intentions are less than noble... why would anyone need to know what type and version of copy protection a game has? To copy it! BOO, spend the money (well, don't spend the money on this one), but spend the money, support the creators!

I have seen some reviews that say you 'have' to walk through the entire game.
Untrue. There are some great vehicles you can drive and send your victims flying with.
Also, the plot is not just that the Police Chief is mad at you.
Fact is, you (Stubbs) have just invaded a town of the future. (Set in the past, but with a futuristic and comedic flair)
A perfect city that is without crime.
A city almost entirely ran by robots.
You begin your Zombie reign and he police force comes out in droves to stop you.
(Oh, and Stubbs falls in love at first sight with a woman who is drug away by ... I'm not tellin'....)
Now, there is more plot. But, why give it all away?
This program ran very well on a system that met just about in the middle of the minimum specs and the recommended specs.
It's quite a lot of fun. And, yes, when Stubbs walks he is rather slow.
But, what else would you expect from a zombie?
This is, in fact, NOT a track-and-field game.
BTW, The blood spurting effect is hilarious. Especially when the victims are screaming out 1 of dozens of very funny lines.
You can even rip off your arm and send it after a person while you're busy attacking someone else.
All i have to say is that this game turned out to be everything it promised to be.
A truly great game... just a little short

This game is spectacular. My only complaint is that it is too short.
I love eating brains, I love throwing my guts at people, I love using my head as an explosive bowling ball, and I love urinating in the public water supply!
