The graphics are great, the fighting does take different strategies depending on the opponents, and strictly player versus player is a blast. The missions, both extraneous and storyline, are also easy to find and occasionally interesting. Unfortunately, because of the pvp emphasis and the no monthly charge this game is over-run with the l33tspeaking puberty-humor demographic. Good luck trying to role-play your character.
The storyline is also less fun because everyone is just out there to 'unlock' skills and items for pvp anyway. Few care what the script is, and in joining a random multiplayer group you can be sure the plot will be summarized as 'go here, kill stuff, return asap'.
Another thing about this game is that unless you're in a top guild, there's not much of a way to leave a lasting legacy or make an impact on the game world the same way there is in Star Wars Galaxies or EVE online. So if that's how you get your jollies look elsewhere.

I have been playing Guild wars for 7 months, in that time was fun, easy to learn, and user frinedly. Most of time you could get decent priced items from players. Yes is it free to play but there is a down fall to that. With new patchs players had no say in what was coming out. So yes it free and no loss if you stop playing because your tired of the way the game maker and patch come out. This new patch has created many problems that i feel are running off players:
1. Elemental nukers are harder to use now
2. The prices of good have soared high from traders (NPC sellers)
When you hit level 20, that is the max after each exp is earned you get skill point. Now what next when you reach lvl 20, and your up against lvl 28+ bosses?
I was a devoted fan of GW, and still play from time to time. But I am about to change up to WoW since GW. What the latest patch did was reduce farmers and instead of new ppl getting a chance to get what they need at reasonable rate it cost them almost twice as much.
Change is good, but dont take the supplies from player. Now what has happened is players are forced to sell at trader (NPC) rates to get what they need for there charactors. And you are only allowed 4 chars per account.
If you want free online play then be my guest before patch was not a bad game, but now if paying monthly fees will allow me to have a say what patches come out (when makers of game listen to player or lose there money) sign me up!
A good PVE experience that ends all too rapidly for an online game, dead pvp

The developers heavily promoted the PVP competition aspects of this game, the "player skill over hours played" mantra, and all that was simply misleading.
They turned it into a WoW refugee camp literally on the eve of release (there were many open betas to play, and they were a totally different, fast action team-based game). If you want a mini WoW, with the exact same quest icons and fed ex delivery style missions, and a decent story campaign mode besides those that's good for one play through, then you won't regret the month of play there is to this game. What is misleading is the PVP... it's not pick-up and play, all the things you need for it must be "unlocked" thus there's no way you can just pick up and play with friends like a normal team vs. game. That basically killed an entire long following amount of Guilds of the game, and PVP is very much dead. PVE also has no long term value. So the main problem here, is they botched the MMO part heavily in every sense, it basically feels like a single player game you can play with other people, but that has low replayability once you've won it.
Fun Game

I will make this review short and simple. Would I recommend this game to my friends YES. It's free to play. I would recommend for ages 10 and up. This last Halloween and Christmas they updated the game in a few of the cities to reflect the Holidays. When you sign on the instant upgrade is performed so you don't have to worry about downloading and installing. Beautiful graphics, Team play, a lot of things to mention which have been in other reviews. You will not be disappointed by this game.

I am in love with Guild Wars. I began playing it four days ago, and it is already interfering with my life: i don't want to work...sleep...anything except play Guild Wars. My boyfriend and I both play. It gives us good quality nerd bonding time while slaying strange beast. I just bought a new computer today because my old one does not run the game well. I cant wait for Guild Wars: Factions. This game is such a good stress reliever.
Great RPG MMO - and NO fees!!!

This game definitely allows you to focus on battling and encourages that you link up with other players (uh...thus the title). You won't find yourself having to develop a trade skill before you can start adventuring like in some other MMOs. The interface is effective but simple enough so it doesn't clutter the screen. GW may not have as much variety in the character classes as other RPG MMOs but there is enough there for diversity.
I can't believe how well done this game really is considering there are no monthly fees. That was the real reason I bought this game. Now I can see why every game site that has reviewed this game give it a great rating. You can't go wrong because of the fun factor of this game.
no fees= best MMO out there

This game is much better then I thought. I played WOW and loved it, but couldn't justify teh monthly fees for much longer. Guild wars is 95% as sweet as WOW and FREE!!!! The game is huge, and updates constantly.
check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Fast pace. Good storyline for an Online RPG. Innovative and rich skill system. High replayability with mutiple character slots. The availability of AI NPCs to team up with is such a blessing to people who want to rid themselve of the dependability on other online players, for the most part. But being online, you can easily play with your friends. Plus, the PvP is also fun and exciting. With no monthly fee of $15 or so to pay each month, it's a must-try classic for gamers.
Where else..

Many other reviews have adequately explained all other parts of the game, but I do want to emphasize that Guild Wars probably has some of the most balanced PvP play I've ever seen, and probably ever will see. It never ceases to amaze me that the lead skill balancer of Guild Wars has clocked more hours in the actual live game than even the most avid player. And yes, those hours are outside of work.
And of course, more importantly to many, what other game (at least in the US) can you play competitively and get paid $50,000 USD for playing a video game? In Feb 2006, ArenaNet and NCSoft gave $100,000 in cash winnings to the top six teams that made it to the Guild vs. Guild championships, as well as an all-expenses paid trip to Taipei. Not bad for a hobby, no?

This is the most exciting mmorpg i've ever played. You'll be hooked from start to finnish and repeat this game over and over. This game is only one of a few mmorpg that contains cinematics (unlike world of warcraft were when u finnish.. you dont know why you bothered playing) these cinematics even include you in it and you even speak! Once you've hit lvl 20 (top level) you'll be engage in quests which invole skill and do GVG (guild vs guild) with your guild to move up the rank table and win prizes!
