Trek games are going in the right direction

Considering this game was supposed to come out this month, October 2000, I'm a little disappointed that I have to wait 6 months to get it ... although I'm used to it by now considering I have purchased many Blizzard products and I am used to delays there. However, Star Trek games have gotten bad raps forever. Recently though, Star Trek: Armada and Voyager: Elite Force have both been superb games, and I believe Dominion Wars should be another similar step in the right direction. One thing I'd like to see now is some, any information on the website ... anything, even a couple of screenshots or a ship description, or the engine they used to create the game. Oh well, I will wait the 6 months in great anticipation.
Dominon Wars - True to the Series

This game stays true to the series in terms of story. Newbies to the Star Trek saga would be hanging by a thread in the plot. Game play is decent - I would have liked this game better if the ships at our disposal would be more control friendly. When you ask a ship to fire phasers or photon torpedoes or attempt a manuever such as "Alpha Strike," it fires on its own. Starfleet Command allowed the player to fire phasers and photon torpedoes at the player's discretion, this game does so on it's own. Winning missions pretty much depends on your arsenal of weapons and what class ship you have or how many ships are in your fleet.
The Graphics are rendered quite nicely and you can import ships from Starship Creator Warp 2 (only Akira, Defiant, and Galaxy) into the multiplayer game. Galaxy ships that are imported in seems to appear invisible - a product of a program glitch or bug that need fixing and patching. Previously no patches are available online to correct this mistake. This game seldom crashes and players can finish the entire game in one day. You can chose to be Dominion or Federation forces.
Gameplay = 7/10
Graphics = 7/10
Sound = 8/10
Value = 7/10

If you ever wanted experience starship command with out attending starfleet this game is the one for you. It is very user friendly. Fantastic graphics, camera shots and selection of mission configurations. The battles are intense!! Without a doubt this the best game I have played. You will not regret buying one. I guarentee!

well, first of all you gotta know that i really LIKE this game. I installed it on my machine, and didn't have any crashes... but thats on a high-end system on the latest version 1.03. The graphics are great, missions and level design are okay, sounds are great, and it has a lot of depth. I actually feel to be in the battles, much more as in ST:ARMADA. Now, I would give it 5 stars. But i have to substract 1 for the missing manual. try to figure out how the thing works without one. Every damned $5.99 game has one, and a complex strategic sim is lackin a simple manual??? OH, C'mon! another star goes for the (As far as i know) missing LAN multiplayer and Skimish mode. When you're done with the single player campaign, your only option is to play over the internet - and that sucks! It is a GREAT game, and with a bit more work it would rock. but that way it's just another startrek disappointment - at least talkin about serious LACKS in multiplayer and support. By it at your own risk.

....The interface is extremely confusing, the view is always from the outside of the ship, the movements are again 2 dimensional, and to top it off, there are no instructions with it. When you finally figure out how to make your ship do anything there is no room for thinking or tactics, just click "attack" and it gors through it's motions while you sit back and wonder if you're going to win or not. All in all, not well thought out, challenging, or fun. Now I have to countdown again for "Bridge Commander" to come out.
Good but needs patching

This was the game I've been waiting for the last year, and it's good,there are some bugs but nothing to sevre, the graphix are outstanding, the MP needs wrok, to slow over the net.
The mission s are difficult and force you to think, the voice wrok on the mission briefing can become long and drawn out, and the missions get more difficult as the story unfolds.
Over all a great game, the have 2 patches out, and could expect a third, they aren't that big, took me 3 min total for both patches.

For those who expected to see a game with the same quality as "Star Trek: Armada," expect a disappointment. For those who were disappointed with the former, need I say more? The introductory cinematic sequences were particularly poor. Unlike Armada, Dominion War's sequences were static, as scintillating as a slide show. Like Armada, it has its share of "CD stammer" and associated bugs. The instructions are cursory. This game boasts of the capability of integrating ships customized from the same manufacturer's "Starship Creator: Warp II" product, but this capability only works in multiplayer mode.For some reason, the tutorial display is dim, like an underdeveloped photo.The very first mission takes place in "The Badlands," where the control interface is badly garbled. Other than that, the game was fine.
