Dated but Decent sim game

Ski Resort Tycoon is exactly what the name implies - build a mountainside ski retreat and try to attract the most business.

Performance was perfect. Any computer out today shouldn't have problems running this game. Despite the fact that it's older I had no issues under Windows XP. If you have problems try shutting off background programs like virus scanners.

Pros
+ Easy to use interface and straightforward explanations
+ Neat feature to view resort from building cameras
+ good tools and utilities to map out resort

Cons
- dated graphics and terrible sound (to be expected)
- very limited selection of buildings and upgrades
- tutorial is short and doesn't cover very much

Overall
... decent sim game but very limited in scope and appeal. The clunky graphics and sound take away from the game (in my opinion). When compared to Rollercoaster Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon the weakness of Ski Resort is obvious.

Maybe a little kid would enjoy this but for a hard core fan of other tycoon games like rollercoaster tycoon stay far away. The slow mouse pointer and the dos like graphics don't turn me on. Unless you are dying to design a ski resort, look elsewhere. There are plenty of other tycoon games that will be coming out soon that are bound to be far better then this! Trust me! If you are a serious gamer don't buy this!

My disappointment started buying the software! It felt like there was nothing in the box. It comes with no instruction manual, no warrenty card, nothing except the cd-rom. When I first played the software I got an ilegal operation screen about ten times before I got the software to start. Once I got it started, the software runned very, very slow, sometimes it would freeze! When I got the game to start to work (after about a hour) the game ended up being no fun! You can build things (but limited quanities) then I just gave up and felt like I wanted to return the software, but I couldn't because I had already opened the box, and it came with no warrenty card. Don't buy this software. It stinks!

There were some guys my age on the reviews that said they did not like this game but I really did. It was easy for me to get started playing it. I liked the ski guys crashing, jumping, and being silly. All of my friends come over and we play as a group. Everyone I know who is my age thinks this game rocks! So if you need a good idea for a present buy SKI RESORT TYCOON !!

For any of you who are reading this i am not like those boring credics that doesn't know any thing.i keep my reviews short and sweet.If you do like the boring credic style read at the end of the review.if you have played roller coaster tycoon or sim theme park and thougt it was good you'll like this game.If you haven'tdon't worry about it. there is lots of challenges in this game and always new things to find. If you are big on skiing,snow boarding,or like i said roller coaster tycoon or sim theme park you have got to get this game.

This game is campy and boring. There was no thought put into this game and it was easy to tell. I would not recomend this game to anyone.

Worst Sim Game I ever played

I love all the other sim business games I have played. Railroad Tycoon (the original) for starters. If you like the original RR Tycoon you could probably tolerate lots of bad games out there. Not this one. My mouse cursor hardly moved, it took forever to actually be able to click on an option, because the arrow was skipping around never going on the object I was trying to select (zooming in did help some, but it was still a pain).

The items cost too much money, growth is slow. You cannot build things fast. You sit there and wait until you have enough money so you can buy some dumb thing so your guests won't leave. Forget trying to make a cool slope, you're busy trying to keep a few guests in the resort by building heaters and condos. I turned the resort on, and left the computer on for a while, and did other things. I came back in a few hours and was able to buy some stuff for about 5 minutes and went back to other things.

I don't think I'll ever play it again. I played it for about two days and I can't stand it.

No, you cannot "compete" with other parks, like in Theme Park, or RR Tycoons. You're there all by yourself with a stupid ski resort listening to crappy music.

This game is a ton of fun, very easy to jump right in and startplaying. A la Roller Coaster. All around I found it to be a very solidand entertaining simulation with plenty of humor and customization tokeep you hooked for hours. Hardcore sim fans might find it lackingsome depth, but the hilarious animations, special features and comicevents certainly make up for it. It's got something for everyone andcertainly a perfect game for the younger audience (no violence,imagine that) and anyone who enjoys snowboarding or skiing and wantsto a good laugh... it's a must buy. I give it the ol' two thumbs up!

It talkes about a day to tire of this game. It has some interesting ideas, but can easily be mastered by anyone with any sim experience. The graphics are good, not great. I guess my biggest complaint is that it is very predictable and there are no surprises. The concept is a good start. Like real Ski resorts, they should require designing summer activities as well. Have said that, I still was glued to the computer for 8 hours and I will go back and play it once in a while. The code is questionable as I have had 2-3 times times when the screen freezes up.
