great game!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

lemme tell you...this is a great game. the graphics aren't the best...no 3D, but RPGs were never really graphic-intensive anyways. gameplay, storyline, and battles are much more important than graphics. however, this doesn't mean septerra core doesn't have awesome graphics.

----------

first off, this game has the overall feel of the final fantasy series. keep in mind septerra core is fashioned after CONSOLE RPGs. hence, this is NOT an action RPG (a la Diablo), so for those of you who are NOT interested in ATB (active time battle) or turn-based time battles, this game is NOT for you. these type of CONSOLE RPGs are usually slower paced and requires more patience....which those of you who play action RPGs may find a tad bit slow...but then of course, final fantasy (which is a great series, btw) would also be slow.

for the critics who claim that septerra core is linear, try playing any of the final fantasy series (or any other CONSOLE RPGs)...most of those are very linear.

---------

the battles reminds me of chrono trigger very much. you get to see the enemies walking on the map, rather than random battles as you walk around (i.e. final fantasy). also, unlike final fantasy, the battle takes place directly on the walking map, rather than teleported to a different backdrop.

also, the fate cards (magic) that can be combined by several characters is similar to chrono trigger's dual and triple techs. using more than one fate card allows you to summon up greater magic (i.e. greater than the sum of the parts)

--------

the graphics remind me of the diablo series. however, the backgrounds in septerra core are actually much, much better than the diablo series. they did a really good job on that. however, keep in mind this game is 2D, so no 3D special effects. nonetheless, the characters, enemies, and attacks look great....and the sound is even better.

Best PC RPG I have ever played.

This game is one of the best RPG's ever, with only some of Squaresofts RPGs to offer competition. The charecters are each interesting and diverse, and the combat system is the best I have ever seen. I heard that the graphics looked kinda outdated, but I have played this game and the graphics might only seem old to all those Quake 3 fanatics out there. While at first sounding like your run-of-the-mill save the world from evil maniac game, Its storyline is very inventive and original, Especially its history and different atmosphere of each shell(Layer of planet with continents) I definitly give this my RPG of the year award.

Great Game but kind of slow

Septerra Core is a great rpg. It has great game play, a good story behind it but only a couple cons. It is very fun and has lots of cool features like weapon customization which lets lets you add attacks to your weapon. I also like the fact that you can pick you party instead of just taking what the computer gives you. The only things i can think of that would give this game a 4 star rating is how slow the battle system. Its not that bad but at times i can get kind of boring. And the only other bad thing, and this really bothered me, there was no map! I dont know how many times i got lost because i had no map. But anyway its a great game and it should be added to every rpg-gamers collection

This was a really good game for like the first couple of hours. Then it was all repetitave you kill the same people over and over again. Plus if you don't level up enough you can get stuck just like I did I had to start all over again I started to play like 5 min then turned it off. Something that was pretty good about it was that it was turn base fighting. But it is a pretty good game but should have more varitey in the game.

Looooooong game gets old after a while

Septerra Core is a fun game with terrific graphics, a nice plot, and a very good combat system. However, the game is so darn long that it gets REALLY old after a while. As others have complained about, it is really frustrating to have to backtrack and re-fight battles you've seen before. Even when you aren't backtracking, the same opponents appear time and again. The game would be much better if it were a little more like Planescape: Torment -- much less fighting and much more puzzle-type quests. I'm finally pretty close to the end, but I'm thinking of quitting because I can't take the monotony of it any more!

The Very Best I've Ever Seen

This RPG game is awesome it is exciting some people say that it is boring and that Final Fantasy or Pokemon games are better(yeah, right) This game is the best, litterally, and I'd go berserk(get it?) before I change my mind about it. The characters are superb and the graphics are superb. Sure, the people there look the same and there are only a few faces in the game and the magic spells and stuff might not look too good but we are playing to enjoy and finish the puzzles not to stare into people's faces and look at the graphics they are superb anyway. Cheers from Septerra

Now don't get me wrong, Septerra Core is a good game. Well, at least for the first hour. After that the gameplay gets so repitive and slow I almost fell asleep. The maker of the game also put in faces while people are talking, much like Grandia. But they try to make it look state of the art by having their lips move, but it looks more like cheap clay animation. They also repeat the faces and NPC models, just cutting off the beard someone has and calling that person a whole new person. And the voice acting, don't even get me started on that. If you must get this lackluster game, you should problaly spring for the Jewel Case that includes the awesome Shogo.

This is truley the greatest game ever

How can you even think of comparing ff8 to this piece of boring garbage?

Why do I think this game sucks?

1. The peoples faces are the same everyware 2. There are a total of about 15 faces and 16 voices for about 200 people, it reminds me game boy rpg's 3. The loading thing is terrible: you have to wait to enter an area , enter the world map, save, and fight. 4. The characters are stiff. 5. The magic sucks 6. Takes tooo long to do a single task such as in shell 7. 7. The characters are just stiff sprites 8. The only reason i gave this game 2 stars instead of 1 is that the movies are high quality. (But not as good as in ff8)

This game is ...

The interface to this game is terrible. I spent the first couple of hours of the game trying to figure out where I needed to go, because the game's interface didn't let me realize I could leave the city. More situations like that followed later in the game.

The battle system is absolutely tedious; it involves clicking the same thing over and over again, to the tune of a slow drumbeat which only helps to ensure that you are thoroughly bored. In fact, the severe lack of music is a problem which plagues the game. This would only be forgivable if it weren't for the fact that other RPGs constantly break new ground in game music, making Septerra Core look absolutely pathetic in comparison. It gives the impression that they spent the budget which was supposed to have hired a composer on advertising instead.

The incessant puzzles you have to solve are very contrived, and you never know whether talking to a certain person will be the key, or whether they will blather on about nothing. If I wanted puzzles, I'd play Riven so that they'd at least be well-done.

Finally, during what I have to assume was a 'boss battle' because the battle dragged on longer than usual and had a louder drumbeat, the game crashed. I would have had to start the battle over again, if it weren't for the fact that I uninstalled the game right then and there. It was too late to return the game to the store, but at least I could get my disk space back.

This game is inferior to Square's games in every area; it is nothing but hype. I can understand why some reviewers would give it high marks - after all the hype, I forced myself to hunt for its redeeming features, and for a while convinced myself that I liked it, until I found myself looking in the walkthrough every ten minutes to find the obscure thing I had to click on, and dozing off during the battles.
