This is a good clasic game for snes. its pretty hard actually infact I think that X5 may be easyer then X1. but downsides are u cant duck or dash in the air witch makes some parts hard. so if your looking for a challeng get this game its fun and its a good collectible. the final boss isn't that hard but takes a few tryes. now you can only be X theres no Zero and no saber. so if you like Zero so much dont get this game get X5 instead. this is the 1st megaman game i've ever played so it was realy hard. but to a guy thats bin playing megaman games for a long time its not so hard. so wat more can I say besides JUST GET THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was Capcom's first Mega Man X game. For the most part they pulled it off nicely. Though you began the game normal you had to find four capsules, each one with an upgrade for your body. The leg part would let you dash short distances and jump further. The helmet part allowed you to break certain surfaces with your head. The body part allowed you to withstand twice as much damage. And the arm part let you charge your blaster to a fourth level of damage. Also, you begin this game with a very small life meter. You must find the heart tanks (one is in each of the eight stages) to make it larger. Instead of energy tanks, you now have sub tanks (which you must fill yourself (with surplus energy.)) Also, completing certain stages will alter others. If you beat Chill Penguin's stage, Flame Mammoth's fire factory will have frozen over. If you beat Storm Eagle's stage, the wreckage of his flying machine will destroy the electricity generation in Spark Mandrill's stage. If you beat Launch Octopus, the underground of Sting Chameleon's stage will flood. Being a totally new series, this takes place approximately 100 years after the most recent game in the classic Mega Man series.
The story goes something like this: X, a new breed of robot who can think and make decisions on his own, was unearthed from the remains of an ancient laboratory by Dr. Cain. Fascinated by X, Cain produced his own series of these robots, ignoring the risks. Several of them became Mavericks and began disobeying human orders. To counter this, Cain built Maverick Hunter robots, led by the ultra-powerful Sigma. Unfortunately, after Sigma battled a mysterious red robot called ZERO, he too became a Maverick, bringing Cain's worst fears to life. Oddly enough, Zero went back to normal and joined X. Together they set out to destroy all of the Maverick bots. Unfortunately, Zero was destroyed in action, forcing X to continue alone. Once he ultimately stopped Sigma, he realized the battle was only beginning. It would be continued in future Mega Man X games.

Mega Man X, the first in the series, combines the best of the original Mega Man series while fusing it with its own futuristic style. This is one of the first Super NES games I ever played and will forever be one of the best. The music, graphics, and storyline, ALL of it is superb (the "Ryu cheat" in this was a nice touch)! While future X games were good (up until X4), none of them ever quite had the charm that this one possesses (maybe it was intended to "pass the banner" from the original series onto its next generation, so to speak.). A MUST-HAVE!
It gives platformers a good look.

Well, even though Super Mario Bros and Super Star Wars are platformers, they are still good. Yet Mega Man X takes away the platformer blues for those sick wanna be games. In Mega Man X, you have the charge gun and you receive new weapons making it fun and interesting. It is replayable since there are different alternatives to the game. The challenges always have an alternative that can be thought up without a players guide. Each boss is unique and fun. This is a must own.
Possibly one of the best MegaMan games, so far

I remember the first time I rented this game when I was a young lad. It was awsome. Of course at the time I thought it was Megaman 10(because X is 10 in Romannumerals), but once I got older I understood that it was not and loved the new story line. It was a great day when I eventually got a hold of this game for myself. It is probably one of the greatest games in my collection. The action is intense and really pushes your skills to the limit. I now own all the Megaman X games. If you are a fan of Megaman, this game is a must have.
The best Mega Man game ever!

I have been a Mega Man fan since the beginning. Out of all the games that have come out over the years, Mega Man X is my favorite. Let me explain...
First, I like the departure from the original Mega Man series. The story, the characters, and most importantly, the gameplay has changed. The game plays faster than the Mega Man because of Mega Man's dashing abilities and the action is often times more intense. There are also a ton of hidden extras to find, such as capsiles that give you armor enhancements, heart tanks which increase your life bar, and sub tanks that let you store energy for boss battles.
I could go on for much longer, but nobody likes to read long reviews so I'll just stop here and say that Mega Man X is just about perfect. If you own a Super Nintendo, then this is a must have game.
A quantum leap for the franchise

After all the mucking up of the story in the original series CAPCOM made a wise move in debuting Megaman on a (then) new system starting from scratch. And what a debut it was! The gameplay and graphics were drastically improved over the original series (Megaman's 1-6).
This game is actually very much like the original Megaman and I had myself feeling Deja Vu's with some of the stages and weapons. Example? Boomer Kuwanger's stage is very much like Elecman's stage, and his weapon is very much like Cutsman's weapon (coincidentally the weapon used to kill Elecman).
The stage select screen is set up similarly too, but has been improved with maps, specs and stage information.
Another deja vu moment comes in Sigma's fortress when the previosuly defeated mavericks appear randomly, again like they did in the original megaman monsteropolis stage.
Music:
The music is outstanding. I don't think even the playstaion versions of this game have matched it (except for X5, whcih recycles the Ranga Bangda music along with Rangda Bangda). I really liked Storm Eagle's music, it made it very pleasant to play.
Gameplay:
Defeating different mavericks alters certain stages. Eg: Sometimes Sting Chameleon's stage has water, other times it doesn't. Flame Mammoth's stage sometimes has lava flowing under platforms, but depending which stage you beat previously, it will only have ash- which adds dramatically to the replay value of this game.
Instead of the disposable energy tanks of the original series, you now have permanant refillable 'Sub-Tanks'. Too cool. You are also able to enhance your abilities via capsules hidden in various stages.
Gripes:
Aside from Rangda Bangda, the Sigma Fortress bosses seemed rather- boring. Sigma's final form and subsequent defeat were fairly anti-climactic.
Conclusion:
A true classic. Buy this one! X2 is also nearly as good.
PS: Unfortunately, capcom repeated history by making the first two in the series outstanding games, but the subsequent games pale shadows in-as-far as fun and playability.
They also mucked up the story again. There will probably never be answers to these questions, but here they are:
- Okay, I thought Dr Cain Created Zero. There were no mentions of Zero being found in a capsule until X4... huh?
- Speaking of Dr Cain... where is he? He mysteriously disappears and is never heard from again.
- How does Zero fix himself in X6?! And why doesn't he give us the thumbs up anymore?
- How can X not know about his past with all the publicity about Megaman's exploits only 100 years prior?
Suggestions:
Make X sleep for another hundred years and fix the story.
