Not up to snuff!

I'll probably be one of the few people who trash this title but I've got to speak my mind. I'll warn anyone who has a geforce card to stay clear for a while. The read me file makes reference to the fact that there is some instability with older drivers of this video card. Well I have the latest drivers and I still cannot complete ONE race without a complete system lockup! The graphics are outstanding but I have another big gripe here. The "Newer more realistic physics" of the came cause the car to bounce up and down constantly and if you are prone to motion sickness get ready for a major headache. I have not found a way to turn this off, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I am a HUGE fan of the NFS series but this is one major dissappointment so far. I hope you have better luck.

Ausgezeichnet! (Excellent)

I'm not a big computer gamer except where driving simulations are concerned. I have purchased every one of the Need For Speed series and while they are all very good, Porsche Unleashed takes the prize as my favorite to date.

The new physics model is evident the minute you start playing this game. The cars demonstrate characteristics of many of the orignal cars. For instance, one will get the idea why the early 911 series cars were sometimes referred to as "the widow makers" (Hint: After you get the game, drive an early Porsche 930 and try lifting off the throttle in mid-turn. Now try to keep the car from swapping ends! It is very entertaining to master the handling issues of each car. The game also includes a Porsche Test Driver program that will put you in more than a few challenging situations. I had this game the day after it's release and have been hooked ever since. If you appreciate games with a bit more attention to detail, PU has it. I love it!

I'll never go back to High Stakes...

This game uses a whole new engine with a superb driving model and breathtaking graphics. After my first race my knees were shaking from the adrenalin rush. I highly recommend this! Best driving game yet.

An Otherwise 5-Star Game

I personally feel that the game deserves 5 stars and that it is a great successor to Need For Speed 3 and 4.

HOWEVER, there is one design flaw that won't allow gamers to enjoy the game to its full extent. Most of the cars and tracks are locked and the only way to access them is to go through a very challenging Evolution mode. So, if you think you'll buy this game and take a 911 Turbo for a spin, you are in for a sad surprise.

Kicks ass but can be taxing on your system

Before you buy a game, you ask yourself a question: "Will this game run smoothly on my computer?" The specs developer gives you not always correct. Of course, you can run it on >350 Mhz, but can't experience the full potential of the game and get the real feeling of the car. On its webpage EA gives these specs as recommended configuration: 300mhz, 64 meg RAM and 8 meg video. In my opinion, these specs should be the required ones. Gamers, is there any fun running game below 800x600 resolution? Don't think so. My test system was self-built P3 600 Mhz, 192 meg RAM , and Matrox Millennium G400 Max w/ 32 meg, on base of Intel SE440BX-2 motherboard. Game runs very smoothly on 1024x768 resolution with full detail on. If you got system like this, go ahead, grab this game, and enjoy extreme graphics and "dare to unleash Porsche's potential". 3..2..1..GO!

Yes it does have issues with the geforce based video cards and lockups/crashes are mostly caused by other programs in memory. I had a problem with it crashing but when I used ctrl-alt-del to eliminate everything except explorer and systry the game runs fine. I love the career mode and the used car market. I found the best way to make money is to buy a used car,fix it up, run a race or two with it and sell it. Also, if you are still in the early to mid fifties, buy as many cabriolet's as possible in 75 the best ones (53-56 and the super,90 etc ) sell for between 60,000 - 110,000.

I've had the same problem concerning the drivers for the GeForce video cards until I found some drivers included on the NFSPU CD. These drivers solved the crashes I experienced with updated GeForce drivers. NFSPU is one of the best driving games I've played.

I got this game the first day it arrived. Having played all the other nfs games I had high hopes. I was not disappointed. The graphics are outstanding but what really makes this game shine is the playability.

It has a very nice interface and once behind the wheel you feel like you are driving. Each car has a different feel. The tracks are laid out nicely, all different locations have a europian flavor to them. The al in this game is also very good. It is an awesome feeling to be racing neck & neck towards the finish line.

If you enjoy a great driving game that puts you behind the wheel of the best cars in the world, get this game.

This has to be a serious contender for game of year.

Let The Buyer Beware

My kids have been BIG fans of the Need For Speed series so I leaped at the chance to purchase Porsche Unleashed. Unfortunately, this one has probably the worst human interface of any software I have ever purchased. The pull-down menus are hidden behind other (evidently higher-order) screen items and hence unusable. The opening screen (which is supposed to let you select your driving persona and establish your named account) was totally hidden behind one such "radar plot" in the middle of the screen. After much blind mouse-clicking to locate the hidden controls I was able to proceed to getting lost in the "Options" setup... from which there is no apparent escape other than exiting the game.

All of this, of course, is assuming that the fault is not that of my industry-standard 300MHz HP computer. As a customer, however, I expect these kinds of products to work first-time, every-time on standard hardware... inadequate testing ? .

This product is definitely not up to Electronic Art's usually excellent level of quality.

A good game - Not a revolution.

Needless to say, NFS - Porche Unleased is a very solid game.It is definitely one of the most desirable driving games for the PC,and redundantly a must-have for a Porche fan/dreamer, provided that the minimum PC requirements are exceeded by 200%plus. Anyone familiar with the console gaming scene, will be quick to recognize its Gran Turismo-esque science, and Ridge Racer's stylish appeal (which is a good thing), with applicable refinements that a power of today's PC could provide. I haven't been a true fan of the series - partly due to its somewhat corny contents and lack of depth - but this new installment has definitely changed my impression. END
