I loved Streets of Rage 2, for the Sega Genesis system. Why? Axel and Blaze return to dish out more martial arts mayhem, but there's more; Max Thunder, a skull crushing wrestling dynamo emerges with body slams and spinning fist attacks, as well as young African American...thrasher Skate, who uses breakdancing moves and spinning Capoiera-like kicks and in line skate attacks
With dozens of gang members to fight off, and so many weapons, either fighter you choose can simply pick up a pipe and smash the punks as they close in on dirt bikes, or go toe-to-toe with these jaw-breaking maniacs, using bone-crushing punches, head-smashing jump kicks, and your typical secret weapons. Dont forget to try busting their buns with your best friend, in the all new 2-Player Head-to-Head mode. Watch your friend, because your lethal attacks can easily hurt him if he stands too close to your punches and jump kicks! Beat them all, and you're the heroes!
This game deserves a five (5) star rating. However, all of the action is animated. Despite the comic book renderings, it's 16 megs of raw martial arts energy, and has as much action as a great martial arts flick! Sega has outdone itself... again!

Wow! This was like the best fighting game ever. I totally loved Streets of Rage 2. This was one of the true CLASSICS of the Sega Genesis. Whenever I fondly remember my beloved 16-bit console the fun I had playing SOR2 always comes to mind.
Yuzo Koshiro's jazzy score was mind-blowing! It completely immersed you in the seedy nightlife and underworld the game took place in. Even with this simple 16-machine SOR2 showed just how cool the music could still be.
Me and my best pal played this non-stop on 2-player mode. It was definitely the most fun you could have on the Genesis. What a game it is!!!

All the recent game systems try so hard on the graphics that they forget to make it a good game. Streets of Rage 2 is the best video game ever made! It deserves more than five stars, but that is not possible. Out of all the games I have ever played, (A LOT!), this is without a doubt the best!
It brings back Axel and Blaze for the fighters, but Adam has been captured by Mr. X and you must save him. It also brings in Max, an ex-wrestler, (VERY COOL!), and Skate, Adam's younger brother. There are cool moves and special attacks! The best fighting out of every game.
There are eight rounds and big bosses at the end of each, (At the eighth each big boss comes back and you must defeat Mr. X!) It is very exciting and if you have Sega Genisus, definatly worth buying for any amount! Any person who loves, or even hates, video games will absolutly love Streets of Rage 2! There will never be a game as good as this for as long as they are around! Streets of Rage 2 will always remain number 1!!!

I first got Streets of Rage 2 for the Sega Genesis when I was 8 in 1998, and have played it ever since.Graphics: The graphics are much, much better than in SoR1. They are drawn to perfection and are much clearer than in the first game. There are also many detailed backfrounds, enemies, and weapons you can use along the way.The characters are drawn to perfection, especially Mr. X's (the main boss) body guard, who looks like someone out of Street Fighter.9/10Gameplay: You can choose from 4 different characters in SoR 2, and they are: Max, a huge wrestler with no shirt. Also the most powerfull character in the game that you can choose.Axel, an average, powerful but slow character with normal build. A great first choice for beginners and experts alike.Blaze, the woman character. She is fast but weak, and she wears a red dress. Also a good first choice.Skate, a kid on rollerblades. He's extremely weak but very fast. Hard to use but is overall my favorite character. There are 8 total levels you can play on, each with several mini-levels in side of them. They range from a baseball field, to a pirate ship, to Mr. X's main hideout. You can also you various weapons to smack the enemy thugs with, such as a lead pipe (my favorite) to knives, swords, and even ninja stars. Each character also has a special move that is unique from them, but also costs some life to use.10/10Music/sound: The music in this game is hands down, the BEST music EVER in a Genesis game. Shiva's theme (number 13 in sound test) is the best theme ever heard in a videogame in my opinion.Mr. X's theme is also really well done. The sounds are also good too, but nothing to have a heart attack about.THWACK PUNCH and SMACK are your basic sounds when you hit thugs, but the sound it makes when you hit a thug with a lead pipe is priceless.8/10 Replay value: There are no secrets in this game at all, but the superb gameplay and excellent music will keep you coming back for more. There is also an extremely hard difficulty level called mania, which seems impossible to beat. This game also has great challenge, if you want it to.To buy or not to buy: This game is worth a buy, because it was great gameplay and some of the best music ever heard in a videogame. It shouldn't cost more than $10 so this is worth it, even more so if you can get a friend over to battle you or do 1-player mode with 2 people. Final Score: 9/10 (5 stars)

You may be wondering, how could a fairly obscure Genesis beat-em up could be the best game of its kind? And the answer is simple. Variety of gameplay.
All of the characters have something special about them. First, there's Axel, you're generic fighter with the taped fists and the usual uppercut. He's not very fast or good at jumping, but he's pretty strong. There's Blaze who's another fairly normal character. Her stats are all average, which makes her both a strong and fast character which is good for beginners. Next there's Max who's a very strong wrestler. He also has a move which takes out almost a full meter of health, but it's hard to do because you need to a back grapple and he can't jump over enemies. As I already mentioned, he's very strong, but he's also very slow. My favorite character in this game is Skate. He moves around on in-line skates and he's also the only person who can run. He's very fast, but the rest of his stats are low, but he does have a strong grapple move from behind which usually takes the enemy out.
Above I said that the gameplay was what set this game apart and now I'll explain why. Not only do you have a lot of moves on the game, but you can also use a variety of weapons. As for the moves, you have both front and rear grapples. You also have throws which are executed by jumping and then pressing attack during a grapple. Another unique thing about this game is that you have an attack to hit enemies behind you, which can be useful. The rest of the moves are fairly standard and include a running attack conducted by pressing forward twice and then attack, and the lose life attack. I won't go into huge detail about the weapons, but there are a lot of them.
The music in this game is classic, and makes the game feel like a kung fu movie from the 80s. Genesis sound quality isn't very good, though. The characters are well drawn, but the graphics aren't very smooth, though that's pretty much standard Genesis, so if you have a Genesis you should be used to it. The graphics aren't very colorful either, but remember graphics don't make a game good.
This is one of the greatest Genesis games and if you have a genesis you should definitely get this game, even if you aren't a fan of the genre. You won't be disappointed.

This is a lost genre in fighting games that was eventually replaced by versus fighters such as Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. The combination of the cooperative gameplay, unique and diverse enemies, hokey but fun story, special attacks and cool catchy music make this one of my favorite all time video games. Part of a trilogy, this one is the best, mainly because of its gameplay, graphics and musical soundtrack, the latter of which is pure genius. Very playable (and replayable) even after all these years. Highly recommended.

This game rocks! Perhaps one of the best 2-d scrolling fighting game EVER! Streets of Rage is similar to Final Fight, but the characters in Streets of Rage have more moves. A re-release of STREETS OF RAGE 1-3 combo for modern consoles (PS2 and GBA) in original form would be totally awesome!!!!
Much better then the first one IMHO

Remember Streets of Rage? If liked that one, you will most certainly love this one. It follows the same theme as the first one, but with some updates. First of the game play is much better! You no longer have the police car helping you with his rocket launcher, but you do have some more killer moves which help a lot in tight situations. The music is VERY good. I can't ever seem to forget the theme song from the amusement park! Graphics are way improved, plus you get to see how much "life" your enemies have left (in other words they have their own energy meters.) PLUS you have extra characters (other then Adam) like Skate and Max. So..go ahead and get this game. You won't regret it!
