Eidos' Best!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 7 / 7

I've bought other Eidos games before, and was dissapointed by their lack of plot and entertainment. So naturally, I was reluctant to buy another. But I did, and I am VERY satisfied with Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. The graphics are excellent, and the story is superb. The controls do take a little getting used to, but once you do, it is well worth it. I highly recommend this game to anyone!

Hours of play!

The storyline to this game is incredibly motivating--I anticipate the played-out scenes where I get to learn more about my character, and these scenes appear more often than at the beginning and end of the game (unlike some other games).

Soul Reaver is full of puzzle solving and fighting, sometimes both at once! A great part about this game is that there are two "dimensions" that you can move through: spectral and material. There are different rules in each, and you need to use both to win.

There are a few downsides to this game, in my view. The direction controls are cumbersome--you move relative to your perspective, not to which way your character is facing. It's also difficult to have the "Action" key (pick up, move blocks) be the same as the "Attack" key. I keep attacking vampires when I mean to pick up a weapon, or vice versa. Finally, when you reload a saved game, you do not return to the location you saved. Everything you've done has been retained, but you start over at square one. Fortunately, there are jump points for shortcuts, but they don't go everywhere.

Aside from those quirks, this game is wonderous fun, and long-lasting. I recommend it to everyone "mature" enough to enjoy it, if only for the fun of impaling a few vampires!

I must say that I have never been happier with a game. The quality and play you get out of Soul Reaver makes it one of the few bargins left today. In short you are swept up in the world of Raziel, the first born vampire in Kain's council. Wings were his gift of evolution. Recieving the gift before the Master was simply bad timing on Raziel's part. Instead of using his lieutenant's new ability to further his cause Kain became furious, tearing the bones out of his wings and ordering him cast into the lake of the dead. The Elder(an ancient god like being) has now given you the chance for revenge! Seek out your mighty sword the Soul Reaver (once Kain's) and exact your revenge on those who betrayed you. I have great hopes for a sequel. I will surely buy it on the merits of this game.

Soul Reaver is a very intelligent and extremly fun 3rd person game. It has some of the finest graphics and absolutly NO loading time.

The game has a great story/plot. The story of the gameplay just keeps getting better and better as you go on. Fighting all sorts of villians and bosses. Collecting Glyphs and Life crystels. The fun keeps on going!

In the game, you are part of an elite Vampire group. Until one century, you evolve before your master, and this displeases him. So he sends you off and kills you. After the longest time you get risen by some God and you seek out revenge on your once bretheren. The game has sophisticated fighting and many different items to pick up along the way, from a piercing spear to an energy sword which is attached to your arm.

One other neat thing about it is the 2 worlds it has. You can switch from the Under world to the real world when you please. Attacking the spirits of the dead in the Under world and attacking the living in the real world. Both sides you dont suck blood anymore, you suck their souls.

Dont wait long, this game is a must-buy.

Soul Reaver is one of the best games out there today. It is full of action, puzzles and is backed by a good story line. The game itself runs smoothly and and play control works very well with a game pad. The graphics are amazing with rich colors and runs smoothly. It is definatly worth playing and I am already recommeding this game to my friends.

Wonderful...absorbing..

This game is excellent, after playing the demo hundreds of times a day for days and days, I got Soul Reaver. the starting cutscene brought me completely into Nosgoth and Raziel's plight. I found myself rooting for Raziel and cussing out the vicious enemies as I was occasionally, but not too often, sent back to the spectral realm. one note-watch our for those #$$#$@ing Zephonim/spider vampires they are a real hassle.

Intense graphics, gothic storyline, and awesome gameplay. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that many parts of the game are hard to figure out ... It's often difficult to find where you're supposed to go next.

I bought and played this game in 2001 when it was already several years old. I had watched a review about it on TV a year before that, and the price was quite reasonable at the time I purchased it.

With not so many expectations, I was awe-struck at the level of detail and creativity poured into the story, the characters, the dialogue, the music, as well as the graphics, level-design, and playability.

Just search the web for keywords such as Raziel, Kain, Soul Reaver, Blood Omen, and you will see for yourself how intense this storyline has proved to be. There are many fan sites out there thriving on the epic characters and universe that the Legacy of Kain series have created so gracefully.

A few of the key elements I found captivating about the gameplay is the fact that there were no 'loading screens' keeping you waiting. The game seemlesly loads the respective portions from the CD as you walk around.

Another feature that caught my attention is the ability to destroy your opponents in several different ways, which all of them, by the way, clearly display the power of hatred and vendetta gathered within your game character, Raziel.

I recommend this fantastic piece of game which delivers art in all forms you can imagine (audio, video, literature) to all of you. But know before you buy, that the graphics, although still beautiful, may not live up to the expectations of some of you out there, who have started gaming very recently, or can only be impressed by nothing more than a Quake-3-engine running on the latest 3D accelerator video card.

Not Glad I Bought It!

This is the second game that I've purchased by Eidos and have yet again been disappointed. The navigational controls are extremely frustrating with just a keyboard and mouse. The game is basically unplayable in my opinion. Maybe it's better with a gamepad.
