Although some silly bugs, its a great game

After the first time I played the demo, I was hooked. I played it over about 20 times because it was just so much fun. I played the xbox version of the game at my friends house and the pc version for me is coming soon. Some of the concepts of the game are a bit unrealistic but just makes it more fun. In what game can you jump from helicopter to helicopter then kick out the pilot so you can drive it yourself? Not many i presume. The grapple also adds a kick to the game. If your running along a highway and you need a boost, just grapple on to a car and you'll instantly be shot up in the air and your parachute will open. You'll stay hooked on to the car until you let go. You can jump on top and enter it too.

Pros:
Ragdoll Physics :-P
Literally, 100's of hours of fun
The Game is a whopping 250,000 acres
many vehicles, enemies, and enviroments
Day/Night Cycle
GTA style missions
You have a rediculous amount of health
You can be extracted and put to almost any place around the islands if you get stuck

Cons:
May get a little boring
Some of the later missions are a bit tedious
Needs a pretty nifty PC to run

Why get this game? Just Cuz.

I just recently beat this game. Yeah it had glitches, but it was still fun and entertaining.

Graphics:
On the scenery, awesome. The game looks beautiful. Instead of going on vacation, I just play this game. The water and the clouds were one of the main reasons I bought it! The sun actually looks like the real thing (for those of you who have always wanted to stare at it). However, I feel like they didn't put in enough time on the main character, Rico. You would think that Eidos would make him look very detailed since you are looking at him the entire time. But I noticed that at night, he looks like he was painted with a coat of flat black.

Game play:
The entire map is open from the beginning, and it's huge. 250,000 acres of land, which comes out to... a lot of land that I probably still have not touched. This might seem like a problem to some, but the guys at Eidos thought of that. There are a couple things you can do when stuck in a stranded area:
1) Call for "Extraction." When you do this, a helicopter flies overhead and picks you up. It then drops you off at a Safe house of your choice (but only if you have unlocked it). and by "drops you off" I mean "throws you out". Luckily, Rico comes equipped with a parachute. He doesn't ware it visibly, but trust me, it's always there. That's another cool thing about this game. You have an infinite supply of parachutes. I personally loved BASE jumping in GTA SA, and Just Cause took it to another level. You can reach very high altitudes in this game, which means very long and scenic falling. Anyways, I digress.
2) You can also call for a "Heavy Drop". This is where the helicopter drops off 1 of 4 vehicles of your choice. You start out with only the Dirt Bike. But soon unlock the Jeep/Truck thingy (that's loaded with guns and missiles). A Boat (that looks like a Hydro Plane) complete with the works, and last a personal helicopter that can get you around places fast.

However, if you like, you can steal vehicles that pass you with your grappling hook gun. Just point and shoot at passer-bys (this could go for helicopters and planes too) and your parachute opens letting you paraglide behind them. You can reel it in and jump in, or you can reel out and get some air.

I'm still trying to get used to the fact that there is no crouch button. I don't know, I guess I'm just used to being able to do that. You can choose to do Story missions or Side Missions. The Side missions help unlock vehicles, weapons, and Safe houses. They can vary from fairly easy, to fairly annoying, but guaranteed they will become boring (THERE ARE A LOT OF THEM AND THEY ARE VERY REPEATATIVE). The Story Missions can become frustrating, but of course what game doesn't?

Unlike Saint's Row, there is a huge selection of vehicles in this game. Everything from Tanks to ATVs, Planes to Jet skis. Although you can't customize your vehicle(s) like in Saint's Row, there really isn't a reason too. The nice thing is that there are more than one of certain vehicles. There are several types of Tanks, Fighter Jets, Fighter Helicopters, etc. You don't really feel the need to customize when you have such a wide variety.

There is a glitch I have that apparently others have too. The game stutters every now and again, pausing game play for a second. It's not as bad as some people make it out to be, but can take away from intense firefights. Also, it's pretty annoying how the game brings the war to you. You could be standing completely still at one of your safe houses, and total anarchy breaks out right in front of you. You could get killed if you leave the game unattended. It's also really hard to get away from the sound of helicopters. One of the only places I have found is up in the mountains, and it's still hard.

Story:
I think they should have just named your character "Antonio Banderas." From the looks to the voice, everything was very similar. I smell a movie. But you play as Rico Rodriguez, a ladies man who was hired by the American "Agency" to start a revolt in San Esperito (Peru or Panama replica) and basically raise hell. You will work with the Guerrilla to help take out the corrupt government, and the Rioja to wipe out a local gang. All three groups (Agency, Guerrilla, and Rioja) give you safe houses which can get confusing. On the map, safe houses are all symbolized by one icon, and there are a lot of them. This may get frustrating when you want to get to a certain safe house but don't remember which one it is.

Anyhow, this game is definitely worth checking out. I had a lot of fun with it. Especially for those of you who often find themselves running around for hours causing mayhem then actually playing for the story.

WAIT until Eidos releases patches for this BUG SOUP!!!

This game has the potential to be great. However, at this time, I cannot possibly give this game anything but 1 star. This game feels, plays and acts like BETA software. The physics are way too wacky, most of the cars are barely controllable, weird bugs like governement helicopters flying around blowing up your enemies before you can complete the missions, and a STUTTERIJNG problem that will drive you mad after about 30 minutes of game play. The stuttering problem is a problem many others are having...check some gaming forums and oyu will see what I mean. It halts the game and the sound stutters for about 3 seconds. Try dealing with that when you are in the middle of a chase.

I and many others are not having hardware issues. I am running an AMD FX cpu, 2GB Corsair Ram, twin 512MB NVIDIA 7900 GT cards running in SLI mode and twin 15000rpm hard drives, one for games and one for the OS. I eat every game for breakfast and beg for more at high resolutions on a 26 inch LCD HD screen and never have a hiccup.

This game is BAD CODE...period. If you think you will buy this game as of this date and have a great "out of box exeperience", you are mistaken!!!

Wait until Eidos clears up the mess they made...then buy this game an play it. I have uninstalled it, even though I have 8 hours of game play already. I don't want to waste a great experience while this game is so buggy. When patches come out, I will try again.

just think gta but on a 250,000 acre scale and instead of a city in sections, its a whole mountainous rainforest and jungle that consists of multiple islands large and small, with multiple cities. the main character being a mexican version of 007 with all the gadgets and machine gun/rocket mounted vehicles. the graphics are beautiful (mostly because of bloom) with breathtaking views and fireworkish explosions (WEEEEEE! FIRE!) and everything is opened up right from the start so you can go anywhere with anything you see and approach missions however you want. doing missions just unlock more vehicles (89 in all) and tons of weapons. this game succeeds in alot of places that gta fell short of, but unfortunatly isn't as stable and solid as gta. one of the biggest things in this game is poppin' your parachute at any time if you get enough momentum/speed going which makes great getaways if your being chased by cops before your car explodes. also, you will be playing this game for a while (303 missions in all) which in some cases isn't necessarily a good thing. so i'm sure when you are finished you will be sick of it lol. the stunts you can pull are pretty sweet, ill give you an example:

cops are hot on your tail and your car is on it's last leg and your headed for a cliff, you flip out of the drivers seat on to the roof and as the car is airborn off the cliff (with the cops behind it) you pull your parachute and glide down to the ocean (the helecopter still tailing closely behind you whilst shooting its machine guns at you) speedboats and jetskies are havin' some fun in the sun below you. as a boat passes underneath you drop from your parachute onto the driver and kick him off the boat and take over. you try to lose the copter through windy rivers but to no avail. finally you just give up and pull your chute at top speed with the momentum flinging you high into the air, just high enough to jump on the copters tail and highjack it in mid-air! soaring high above the island through cloud-layers you decide to go for a skydive to your destination....

not to mention you have a grappling hook gun that latches onto to everything except people and stable objects so you can go parasailing any time. the island is enjoyed better with a birds eye view anyways right? the side missions involve taking over villages (killing people and blowing stuff up) and then lead to escort, stealing stuff, assasinations, and other various things but are random to a point. the more you do, you climb in rank with the gang unlocking safe-houses and such. the main missions being the funnest. i can just go on and on about this game so i'll stop now.

This game rocks, like some crazy combination of Grand Theft Auto meets Far Cry meets I-don't-know-what. Great combination of FPS, action, and strategy, with freedom to roam and destroy! I have not had any technical difficulties with this game at all running at max IQ settings, using a Core 2 Duo E6400 (overclocked to 3.4Ghz) and a Geforce 7950GX2 video card.

Im glad I didn't buy this game,I did play the demo and that was enough for me.I waited a long time with great anticipation for this game to be released. What a let down it was.I think pc gamming is dead there hasn't been a good release in two years.( Scarface was a cheap imitation of GTA,GTA SanAndreas was a big step backwards from VICE CITY,Stargate was cancelled,All the other pc game releases have been so so run of the mill junk nothing inovative )What has happend sence Vice city,Half Life 2,Far cry,Boiling point. It's all been down hill. There are still two games on the horizon that look good if they are ever released.STALKER and RESIDENT EVIL 4.If they don;t pan out or are dud's I think I will buy a console. That looks like where all gammimg is headed anyway.Well thanks for listening to all my pentup frustrations.Im just disgusted

This is a fun game! Has little problems in the gameplay which is annoying at times but it is okay! Go for it if you are thinking about buying it.

Such a wonderful location, but so repetitive

I think the core of the game only has a dozen or so missions. The box says it has over 300 missions, which is almost a lie. What it has are maybe 15-20 meaningless side missions set in 20-30 different locations. I thought they had really thought up a nifty way of generating missions but they just cut 'n pasted the same ones all over the island.

I thought the views were remarkable. Worthy of a better game. I experienced a few hiccups and lags, but I'm used to that on my sub-prime machine.

Really, try to get this game for under $15, which is what I feel it's worth.
