Perfect Dark on GBC

Through-out all the GBC games, this is probably the most unique of the bunch. More importantly, this is probably the only one with full voice over. More than once have I completed the game, so I geuss you could call it kind of addicting. So here you go, my review on Perfect Dark.

Story: Joanna Dark, the hero from the #1 smash hit Perfect Dark, for N64 has returned in the prequal on GBC. Saldly, the story hasn't got the same flare as its prodecesser. Through-out her adventure, Joanna will encouter many bosses, many of which require serious skill to take down. The game also offers many game types, such as sniping(my favorite), driving, and all out action. I'll leave it there for now.

Graphics: Not the Best on the GBC, but they are quite clean, still there is hardly no color variation. Nothing really special.

Sound: The soundtrack is great(what little there is), and yes, the game does feature voice acting, but as unfortunate as it is, they are terrible, blah!

Gameplay: As I mentioned earlier, the gameplay is extremly varied and fun, easily the best part of the game. The controls are a bit mushy though. The stealth is pretty cool too.

my conclusion is that this is a great game, and you should try it if you the series you should give it a go, but still, you might want a more solid adventure, and in that case, you should try MGS.

Pretty good nowhere near a classic like the N64 one though.

This is a decent game but the Nintendo 64 version blows it completely out of the water.I mean I could really use a combat simulator to play when Im stuck in the main game but still there are some great action scenes. The graphics and sound are terrible though.I suggest you skip this one unless youre a die hard Perfect Dark fan.You should get Super Mario Deluxe instead at least that is more fun.

Its not the N64 game, but its still great.

It should be obvious that it's impossible to convert a console game to a handheld system. Despite this, Rare tried their hardest to continue the adventures of Joanna Dark and in my opinion, they suceeded. Though far from Perfect, Perfect Dark provides a lot of fun for those who are dedicated enough to learn how the game works. There's a substantial amount of depth to this game, and the multiplayer functions are better than any I've seen for a Game Boy Color game. Plus, its ability to unlock cheats in the N64 version is an added bonus to buying this game. The only problem of this game is the slightly awkward hit detection and play control system. That and the game is almost entirely in a limited third person view. Despite this, it is still a brilliant game that should not be passed up.

Bypass this one, holmes

There is nothing perfect about this game, so that right there is false advertising. Anyway, how fun can a game be that allows you to get shot from an enemy who is shooting you while rushing in from off screen? Sound fun? Well, no, it's not. Gameboy color games are pretty weak across the board...I'd stick to the Advance. Perfect Dark is just [mindless].

It ain't perfect, but still decent

Perfect Dark was one of the few games on the Nintendo 64 worth playing that wasn't designed for little kids, and while the GameBoy version doesn't hold a candle to its N64 cousin, its still pretty decent. Instead of a first-person perspective like in the N64 version, its played with a top-down version and missions and gameplay similar to Metal Gear Solid. However, there are some major glitches. Targeting your enemy is complete hell, and when you have to use stealth is even more hellish because you never know if the enemy can see or hear you. The good qualities are you can hook it up with another GameBoy for some multiplayer action, but most of the game seems unfinished, and could have been done a lot better. overall, its decent, but far from perfect.

Solid game with glitches

I don't know why so many people hate this game! . While not perfect (the sound and controls get more and more annoying throughout the levels), it is a great way to pass time as you will take quite a while to finish it (I've already owned the cartridge for almost a year and still haven't unlocked all the secrets!). Although the training is near impossible for newbies, especially stealth training, the actual stages and extras are fun to play and complete. And there are so many modes! You get to speed along in a jeep, dodge missiles in a helicopter, throw ninja stars at a boss, destroy cyborgs, shoot down massive helicopters, snipe, and go down a river on a raft while collecting ammo and firing at guards. Once clocked, these minigames can be played on their own, to give you more practice. Also, some missions require you to rescue hostage or defuse bombs in a limited time. The rumble pack included gives a sense of realism to the whole thing.

But where this game really shines through is the multiplayer. There are plenty of modes to choose from, like capture the flag, timed game, rescue the hostage and first to 10 kills, and 25 stages, most which you have to unlock in the single player game. Each of these have their own design (I love the pac man stages!) and weapons. Also included is air-hockey, put in there to give you some stupid fun. Playing multiplayer requires two people both with GBC's and PD, as well as a link cable.

So if you have heaps of spare time and want a good GBC game with great graphics and gameplay, get perfect dark for gameboy.

This game rules. It is awsome. It is alittle hard at times but that can be bypassed with good controls, graphics, contols and sound. Buy it if you liked the nintendo version.

Nearly perfect with mediocre gameplay

I recently rented Perfect Dark at Blockbuster and I'm quite surprised that it got some bad reviews here. It is not terrible, but it is not excellent either. But, it has some drawbacks because it seems impossible to master the "extras" in the game. The sound effects aren't horrendous, they are the parts that are nearly perfect.

Another problem is that sometimes when a guard is struck down by bullets you fired, they might consider that you "mission failed." That made me think. I said to myself, "If the guard is dead, how could my mission fail?"

This game is mediocre at best, but it is more fun to watch someone else play this game rather than playing it yourself. Trust me, it is a decent rental.

Not exactly 'Perfect', but it's good.

If you've ever played Metal Gear, you'll feel right at home in Perfect Dark. The same run, shoot, sneak, and loot while performing acts of espionage is duplicated in this cartridge. While controls could be better, they do the job well once you get used to them. The rumble pack does a nice job of letting you know you're getting hit (since it is sometimes hard to see the shots of your enemies on the screen actually hitting you). The sniper mode and 'shooting gallery' modes are a lot of fun, and make good transitions between the scenes. People are complaining that the Nintendo 64 version makes this one awful, but you have to remember the GBC is an 8 bit system, and for the smooth animation and features packed into this cartridge, I believe that Rare did a good job, and that the game is worth the purchase. My only real problem with it is the fact that you can't really see a guard until it's too late and he's running at you, but the ability to shoot through some barriers that the guards can't see you through (barrels, fences, columns, stairs, etc) definately 'levels' that problem out.

A good solid game boy color game

When I got this game I thought it would be perfect dark shrunk down. It was hard to get used to at first, the training mode was not very forgiving! When I had mastered the basic controls, I was having a lot of fun. Also when you beat a boss or any other special event, you unlock it in the extras mode, where you can play it again. I really think this is a good game once you get used to the controls and it is one of the best game boy color games. If you liked this game, I suggest Metal Gear Solid(game boy color version). Not only is it a fun game, but it has a smaller chracters, which means you can see a lot of places on the map (YES!!!!) unlike perfect dark, you often get shot in the back from offscreen. I would have to say that metal gear solid is even better than perfect dark because it has around 200 training missions and 13 stroy missions. All in all these two games are must-haves for the gameboy color
