I don't know why so many people hate this game! . While not perfect (the sound and controls get more and more annoying throughout the levels), it is a great way to pass time as you will take quite a while to finish it (I've already owned the cartridge for almost a year and still haven't unlocked all the secrets!). Although the training is near impossible for newbies, especially stealth training, the actual stages and extras are fun to play and complete. And there are so many modes! You get to speed along in a jeep, dodge missiles in a helicopter, throw ninja stars at a boss, destroy cyborgs, shoot down massive helicopters, snipe, and go down a river on a raft while collecting ammo and firing at guards. Once clocked, these minigames can be played on their own, to give you more practice. Also, some missions require you to rescue hostage or defuse bombs in a limited time. The rumble pack included gives a sense of realism to the whole thing.
But where this game really shines through is the multiplayer. There are plenty of modes to choose from, like capture the flag, timed game, rescue the hostage and first to 10 kills, and 25 stages, most which you have to unlock in the single player game. Each of these have their own design (I love the pac man stages!) and weapons. Also included is air-hockey, put in there to give you some stupid fun. Playing multiplayer requires two people both with GBC's and PD, as well as a link cable.
So if you have heaps of spare time and want a good GBC game with great graphics and gameplay, get perfect dark for gameboy.
Fun and full of action

This game is full of action and a true shooter through and through. The graphics are pretty good. There are actually voices to hear which makes it neat. This game does get gory. the only bad thing is that the training is really hard!
Don't bother. There are other games out there.

When the Transfer Pak was initially introduced for the Nintendo 64, there were very few games that used it. Pokémon Stadium and Mario Gold (see reviews) were the first ones, and Mario Tennis was coming. At the time, I had recently bought Perfect Dark for the N64, and I'd heard that the GBC version would use the Transfer Pak. Based on that, I bought the GBC game. Oops.
My first mistake was expecting an N64-type experience from this game, and that's simply not possible. Perfect Dark was so good for the N64 that it couldn't be translated well for the Game Boy. However, it could still be a good game in its own right. Well, it's not.
The controls, to say the least, are poor. It's difficult to aim, difficult to tell where you're aiming, hard to tell what's happening, hard to see where items are to pick up. It's just difficult to play. I couldn't even force myself to go through the first level.
The sound is nothing spectacular, and while the cut scenes are interesting, the graphics themselves are poor. The cartridge also comes with a built-in Rumble feature, but that really doesn't add anything to the game other than weight.
I can't recommend this game in any way, even for its ability to unlock features in the N64 game (which I couldn't find in the GBC manual and will accept on faith). It's simply not worth it. If you need to get into things in the N64 version, find some cheat codes on-line and save yourself some money.
Its not the N64 game, but its still great.

It should be obvious that it's impossible to convert a console game to a handheld system. Despite this, Rare tried their hardest to continue the adventures of Joanna Dark and in my opinion, they suceeded. Though far from Perfect, Perfect Dark provides a lot of fun for those who are dedicated enough to learn how the game works. There's a substantial amount of depth to this game, and the multiplayer functions are better than any I've seen for a Game Boy Color game. Plus, its ability to unlock cheats in the N64 version is an added bonus to buying this game. The only problem of this game is the slightly awkward hit detection and play control system. That and the game is almost entirely in a limited third person view. Despite this, it is still a brilliant game that should not be passed up.
Good but very difficult!

This game was good when I first started playing it. the graphics are ok but the heads of Joanna and the enimies are just circles. The sound effects are great though. It can and will get a little gory. The stealth training is really hard because you can't even let a single guard hear you if he does you fail. Overall this is a decent game. One more thing I like about it is the rumble feature it's pretty cool! i reccomend this game to any one who wants a handheld portable James Bond like game.
Not up to snuff...

Perfect Dark on the Nintendo 64 was a nearly flawless shooter for the console. This Game Boy version comes out and ends up being a complete waste. Why must Rare create a game that makes it impossible to really sneak around and use stealth tactics when they claim that you must do so in order to survive. Survival of this game is simply having ammo (always low on that) and trying to shoot people that are coming from an angle. The only saving grace of this game is the great use of sound and the features, such as boss attack and such. Make sure you know what you are getting before you pick up this title.
Pretty good nowhere near a classic like the N64 one though.

This is a decent game but the Nintendo 64 version blows it completely out of the water.I mean I could really use a combat simulator to play when Im stuck in the main game but still there are some great action scenes. The graphics and sound are terrible though.I suggest you skip this one unless youre a die hard Perfect Dark fan.You should get Super Mario Deluxe instead at least that is more fun.

Through-out all the GBC games, this is probably the most unique of the bunch. More importantly, this is probably the only one with full voice over. More than once have I completed the game, so I geuss you could call it kind of addicting. So here you go, my review on Perfect Dark.
Story: Joanna Dark, the hero from the #1 smash hit Perfect Dark, for N64 has returned in the prequal on GBC. Saldly, the story hasn't got the same flare as its prodecesser. Through-out her adventure, Joanna will encouter many bosses, many of which require serious skill to take down. The game also offers many game types, such as sniping(my favorite), driving, and all out action. I'll leave it there for now.
Graphics: Not the Best on the GBC, but they are quite clean, still there is hardly no color variation. Nothing really special.
Sound: The soundtrack is great(what little there is), and yes, the game does feature voice acting, but as unfortunate as it is, they are terrible, blah!
Gameplay: As I mentioned earlier, the gameplay is extremly varied and fun, easily the best part of the game. The controls are a bit mushy though. The stealth is pretty cool too.
my conclusion is that this is a great game, and you should try it if you the series you should give it a go, but still, you might want a more solid adventure, and in that case, you should try MGS.
The Perfect Game is!!.....................Someting Else

This game is a horrible let-down. You'd expect to have a decent game after all the good stuff they say about it! The only good thing about this game is the graphix. Very good. The only reason I gave this a one is for it's graphix. Horrible Plot. Horible weapons. Horrible idea........ Even if you ignore me like some will do, and get this game, you will hate yourself for it. WANT A GOOD SATISFACTORY GAME?!?!?!? TRY WARLOCKED!!!!! Bye!
Pretty Good

I saw alot of the reviews for this game and I didnt know whether to get it or not, so I decided to try it. I am pretty impressed by this game. It is not bad at all. PD reminds me of Goldeneye, with the objectives and the watch and everything. The game is challenging, and requires you to be patient and watchful. The weapons are okay, but I dont like how they are hard to fire. I do like how you can get the leftover guns from guards. The rumble feature lets you know you got hit and the training segments kind of sharpen you shooting skills. The graphics are also very good for a game boy. The bottom line is, this game is a goldeneye for the GB minus the music...
