This conversion SUCKS BIG TIME. It is very little like the PC version, which you are better off with. All physics on the cars are the same, meaning all cars go top speed, are hard to control, and all have the same armor rating. (If you envision destroying cars with the bus, you're out of luck unless you want to kamakazi.) Gameplay is also lacking, and very complicated. Not a fun conversion. Stick with the PC version.

Sleazy manual, terrible controls, this game just isn't fun. Hard to go around corners, it's almost impossible to get a car. And shooting weapons is just plain annoying. For your sake, don't buy this game!!!

Despite the alluringly sleazy premise, this game fails on all levels. After struggling through perhaps the worst instruction book I have ever seen, I was confronted with a driving game that renders steering impossible. Add to this a confusing map environment, microscopic graphics, and poor sound, and you have the makings of a first class overhyped loser. Amazon really needs a "0" stars option.
#$%@, DOES THIS GAME SUCK!

Yes, yes, GTA is a great series of games; just not the GameBoy versions.
First, the city you're in must be some post-apocalyptic place where everone has died, because THERE ARE NO CARS ANYWHERE! THERE ARE NO PEOPLE ANYWHERE! How can you carjack and kill without cars or people?
Second, the play control is TERRIBLE. I... I can't go on... it's just too horrible.
Buy the PC or PS versions, but not this. You will cry.
Crap adaptation of the first in the series.

This game is a bare-bones adaptation of the first GTA which was released for PS and PC. The PC version had some wonky controls regarding turning, but the GBC has problems getting you to even WALK, let alone everything else. The cites are outright barren, you'll be lucky if you ever see another car and even if you do, you don't jack that car, you just hop right in. The police, your constant enmies don't chase so much as they just appear from nowhere and instantly capture you. Seirously, this "game" feels more like an Alpha-test build of GTA 1 than an actual game. Plus, Rockstar now has released GTA 1 for the PC as freeware, so why pay for such a sub-par adapatation? If you must have GTA to go, check out the new GBA version which not only has it's own story, but actually plays like a finished GTA game.
One of the most pathetic games for GBC

I can't believe people are reviewing this game favorably here! Are standards THAT low?
First there is the control problem. Um, ok, I love having the ability to get the player I'm controlling stuck to the point were I have to quit the game because there is no way to maneuver. Also, is was PAINFUL to try and even get into the cars.
Second, the game is just BORING. Nothing like the PC game which was a lot of fun. No, I wasn't expecting the PC version, but the gameplay is plain horrible.
Save your money, don't buy this game.

This game is not worth your time. Although the city in the gameboy version is the same huge city in the PC verison, the game falls way short of Grand Theft Auto's good name. The graphics are decent and no compliants from that part of the game, but the overall game play is lacking. It is quite common for you to walk down a mainstreet and not see a car for miles. The police rarely come after you. I've had four cop heads one me(means I was a bad bad boy) and been able to walk around town without a cop ever coming after me. The steering system in cars is very poor and hard to turn. When you turn your car it looks cheesy and very unrealistic. I would not recommend you buy this game.
Poor control really hurts this game

Grand Theft has a refreshing plot-twist going for it (if nothing else) b/c in this game you are the criminal working your way up the outlaw ladder.
Too bad about the play control. This could have been a solid game if you could make your character go the way you wanted him to. Instead, you are confined to awkward and tedious control functions that render Grand Theft Auto virtually UNPLAYABLE.

As a player of GTA for playstation, I bought this game expecting a portable version of the same fun. What I got was this sick excuse for a game. First, this game is rated Teen and not Mature, and you can definitely tell. The language is cleaned up(very obviously in some parts), which is good or bad, depending on your point of view. The jobs in the GBC game are the same for playstation, but most people familiar with other games will be dissappointed by this. There are barely any pedestrians and cars to steal. Only consider getting this if you're a hard-core fan of these games.
IS IT WORST,BETTER OR THE SAME AS DRIVER ON GBC.
