Not like the PS version, but still fun

The Game Boy version of Driver is a highly enjoyable version of the excellent Playstation and PC game that goes by the same name. Three of the four original cities are included (Maimi, L.A., and New York) with only San Francisco missing, possibly because San Francisco is on a hill and there are no inclines in this top down GTA-like version. Four of the driving games from the original versions are also included: Checkpoint, Getaway, Pursuit, and Survival. The driving model, while not nearly as entertaining as the model in the PS or PC version, is still relatively fun.

The heart of the game is the undercover mode, although it is downsized considerably from the PS and PC versions. Instead of around 40 missions, there are only 15 (belive me, I counted them): 8 in Maimi, 2 in L.A., and 5 in New York. Also, there is absolutely no storyline whatsoever. This means you never feel like you are actually an undercover cop uncovering the secrets of the gang. You are just told to do things and you have to go out and do them. These things include wrecking enemies of the gang you work for, picking up members of the gang and participating in their getaway, and delivering cars to the gangster's lockup. While this is fun, 15 missions just isn't enough, and the game becomes very easy because of it (I beat the game in under 2 days, and I'm sure many people will beat the game in one very long button-mashing session.) Thankfully, the driving games provide some replayability, although there isn't a battery backup to save your best times.

Overall, this is a short, but still excellent conversion to a system that tends to suffer from a lack of good, fun games.

One of the best Game Boy games!!

I first played driver for playstation at a friends house, and I enjoyed it a lot, so i took a chance and bought it for game boy. I'm so glad i did! It is every bit as fun as the playstation version. The police react realisticly. There are also 3 city modes with very recognizable differences. The cities are huge, with tons of different streets to drive on. There are also a lot of fun modes in the game. The main campaign mode, the get away mode (see how fast you can burn a cop), pursuit (chase down a car and knock it off the road), Survival (see how long you can last against tons of cops at once), and the free drive mode (drive freely throughout any of the cities), which makes the game fun to play over and over. There is also tons of stuff to knock over including cones, road block signs, and road signs to add to your fun. This is truly one of the funnest games for game boy color, and if you enjoy games such as Driver for playstation and computer, and Grand Theft Auto, you will love this game a lot!

This game is the best ever! There are plenty of alleys and secret spots where the cops can't get you. For some real fun highlight the undercover option and press up up down down up down up down up up down down to get the cheats menu.

It is so Fun!

This game is for anyone who liked the PS version of the game. The tight controls let you speed through the city streets with ease. This is a great racing game for anyone who is looking for a break from the fairly boring pace of games like Nascar, in which all you do is laps.

Good PS to GBC transfer, sounds are pretty good, graphics could be better, but an overall good buy.

This game is one of the worst games I've ever played and I've played a lot of bad games. Do not buy it. I wasted thirty dollars on it.

This game used to be great, with great places to find and the missions,me and my friend callum(we aint friends no more)used to stay out abit late and play this game(he also used to hog with the game)looking for secret passage ways, people(by the way i found out there arnt people except on the first mission) and ways to damage police cars.the graphics arnt the worst on a game boy game and on T-A-R U get to search thru the cities, ram other cars, irritate the cops and i also enjoyed making up codes so i can get different missions.overall i don`t own it actually i never owned it it was my old friend Lewis,hu let me and callum borrow it as many times as we wanted i do miss playing on the game some times but i know if i play on it i stop after 10 minutes. GRAPHICS:6/10 SOUND:7/10 GAMEPLAY: 8/10 OVERALL:9/10.COMPARES TO:This game is in the same genre as the gameboy versions of GTA 1 and GTA2 and this game is a chip off Driver on PSONE(A Much more realistic, fun, challenging game).this gameboy version has its own sequal, thats right Driver 2 Advance(obviously on the GBA) which is much better than this because its 3D and more fun(me and my old friend Callum really wanted to play this at one point we nearly did but the girl giving it us fell out with us).The Driver series and Grand Theft Auto series will always be the best and eliminate their "clones".
