Video game grpahics as good as any work by Piccaso

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

If you were to compare video games to great works of art then Half-Life by Sierra would be in the upper-echelon of art ranking right up there with Piccaso and Michaelangelo.

Half-Life's single player game is entertaining and easy to learn. As a research scientist, you are asked to perfrom an experiment, but something goes terribly wrong and your world and a world of pure evil collide. Its up to you to get out and save it, but trust me, these are no ordinary monsters, they think, feel, and want to stay alive as much as you do. You would swear that you were playing against other human opponents.

Multi-player is just as impressive and fun as single-player mode, and the games interface makes it eay to start playing right away. You have a large arsenal of weapons to choose from, which means you will never get bored of blowing up your friends.

The bottom line is, if you are very picky about the games you purchase, then this is the game for you.

This game is nothing short of revolutionary.

I've never been a big fan of the first-person 3D genre in computer games. Most (if not all) of them have been just sadistic slaughterfests. But I always felt the format had potential. "Half-Life" reaches that potential.

I think "Half-Life" is the first multimedia product that truly deserves the term "interactive movie." While most game publishers are content with churning out "Quake" and "Doom" clones, and are more interested in putting rocket launchers and special effects into games than story, "Half-Life" is nothing short of revolutionary. That's the only way to describe it. It puts you in the middle of a terrifying environment, and forces you to use your wits (not your fists) to get out. The monsters are unlike anything I've ever seen, and you really feel like you're in a real environment that lives and breathes. The story is also excellent. The creators wisely replaced movies and static cutscenes with interactive segments that you can participate in. The effect is like living a horror movie.

I hope other computer game-makers see "Half-Life" and realize that this is what gamers expect. It sets a standard that others will have to live up to from now on.

Great game!

This game has taken FPS to the next level. If you liked Resident Evil, you'll love this game. There are a lot of similarities but Half Life's atmosphere and realism are a little better than RE's. In summary, it's a fantastic game.

I haven't played a game in years that had me jumping, screaming, ducking, and sweating until I played Half-Life! I think I lost about 5-10 pounds just from all the excitement and adrenaline rushes. The AI was like playing against another person. There were times I actually yelled out in pain and cursed when I injured myself in the game. Many times I reloaded some save games just to fight the soldiers in the games because of the realism. Definitly a must have for the holidays.

Half-Life is the best game of the year!! (98 and 99)

Half-Life is simply stunning, the sound is great, the scripting ...great,

It's the first 'Doom' clone to actually take a step forward!! A must buy for anyone who owns a computer and a decent 3D card!!

This game is the best game I've ever played! Finally you can talk and interact with people in an action game! The graphics are the best I've seen! Valve really did a kick-*ss job.

Looks good, but be prepared for headaches running it.

Many people are having trouble running the game, specifically those like myself with the Diamond Monster 3d voodoo video cards. In addition, the game when launched seems to think that I want my internet connection window opened, so it does it for me, and will crash the whole works if I do not close the connection window before going further with the game. This takes a little doing, since the window is not visible behind the game screen. I think the developers could have done better.

Half Life: Two Thumbs up

Today I have bought Half-Life, and I must say I'm impressed. I played through all of Quake 2 and I enjoyed it; I haven't gone too many places yet in Half-Life, yet I can see already that it is obviously superior to Quake 2 in quite a few ways. For example, the enemies are very intelligent. When I played Quake 2, I marveled at the Strogg guard's intelligence when he ducked my laser blasts. Now, I'm running into soldiers that work in teams, lobbing grenades, strafing, and setting up defensive positions around the base. Getting around these enemies took more brains than straight out firepower- if you go up against a grunt and his friends with guns blazing, prepare to face the deadly consequences. Now, about the game statistics....well, I was very impressed by the graphics. The textures were realistic, but more importantly, they looked good. The enemy designs are sinister, and sometimes downright horrifying. Plus, the weapons look cool, and the use of sprites is kept to a minimum. The digital sound is very good and clear, except for the fact that it tends to skip from time to time. This annoying quirk of the game helped keep it out of the 5-star range for me. I also found controlling the game to be a bit frustrating. Movement controls are generally fairly tight. However, the game is very touchy about hitting things. To hit the tarantula-size headcrabs, it takes extreme accuracy, even with auto-aim. Other than these two annoying qualities of the game, I'm sure you'll find it to be an enjoyable experience (unless, of course, you scare easy.)
