This game is the best game I've ever played! Finally you can talk and interact with people in an action game! The graphics are the best I've seen! Valve really did a kick-*ss job.
Action gaming at it's best! A must-buy for action game fans!

I must say, this truly was the Game of the Year in 1998. The Hazard Course which trained you in how to play the game was extremely well done, the begining cutscene left me numb with awe, in fact the whole game was dynamic! My favorite parts in the game were when you wouuld stumble across a group of rival enemies battling with other people, and they kill each other and save you the trouble! What's best is that there are other people in the game to help you, so you have others to help you fight (except the scientists, they just draw bullets to themselves like magnets). All in all, I highly reccomend it, but don't buy it just yet! *Wait for the Game of the Year edition!* It contains updates to the original and if you don't get it, you'll have to waste hours downloading the updates off the internet.

the one word that sum this game up is Realism, they shoulda named it "real-life", with life-like details and conditions in the game. not only does it have regular half-life multiplayer, but also includes team fortress classic once you update the game with valve's patch. the only thing remotely wrong with it is lack of built-in modem play option. if you have a Local Area Network at home, you HAVE to get this game to entertain your friends. It is so much fun than just doom and quake, not only will it change your view about 3d action shooter games, you will be bragging about it just like i am.

Today I have bought Half-Life, and I must say I'm impressed. I played through all of Quake 2 and I enjoyed it; I haven't gone too many places yet in Half-Life, yet I can see already that it is obviously superior to Quake 2 in quite a few ways. For example, the enemies are very intelligent. When I played Quake 2, I marveled at the Strogg guard's intelligence when he ducked my laser blasts. Now, I'm running into soldiers that work in teams, lobbing grenades, strafing, and setting up defensive positions around the base. Getting around these enemies took more brains than straight out firepower- if you go up against a grunt and his friends with guns blazing, prepare to face the deadly consequences. Now, about the game statistics....well, I was very impressed by the graphics. The textures were realistic, but more importantly, they looked good. The enemy designs are sinister, and sometimes downright horrifying. Plus, the weapons look cool, and the use of sprites is kept to a minimum. The digital sound is very good and clear, except for the fact that it tends to skip from time to time. This annoying quirk of the game helped keep it out of the 5-star range for me. I also found controlling the game to be a bit frustrating. Movement controls are generally fairly tight. However, the game is very touchy about hitting things. To hit the tarantula-size headcrabs, it takes extreme accuracy, even with auto-aim. Other than these two annoying qualities of the game, I'm sure you'll find it to be an enjoyable experience (unless, of course, you scare easy.)
A great game! Possibly the greatest game ever made.

This is a great game! Worth every penny. ValvE did a good job on their first game. It was made with a vastly improved Quake II enigne, and the improvements show. The lighting, graphics, and some other features are slightly better, not to mention a kick-butt storyline. It has awesome capabilities with scripted scenes. I usually don't give anything away, but I have to give this part to show you how much detail ValvE has put into it. Anyway, towards the beginning of the game, I talked to a security guard and got him to follow me around and open doors and shoot enemies. We were walking down the hall, and all of a sudden he says, "Do you hear that?". I look around and (this part scared the living heck out of me) part of the ceiling cracks and falls down (you can even see the little fragments of the floor), and four headcrabs jump out and try to latch onto my face, the security guard killing one of them and then getting killed by one. After I finish them off, I've got to climb up into the complex air ventelation system to get to my next destination (the security guard is dead and the door is locked). Anyway, you NEED to get the game that won over forty Game of the Year awards.
The best thing since Wolf 3d!

This game is the best shoot 'em up game I have ever played. I don't like Quake I & II due to the fact that they lack the tacktics ex. "Run in here and press an over button while holding down the fire..." ICK! This game has suspense, thrill, strategy, and graphic that will knock your socks off. Once you beat the single player missions enter in a game room with gun's a'blazin'
The only shooter I've ever finished

Being mostly an RPG player, I wasn't too interested in Half-Life when it came out, but after reading all the rave reviews I had to get it. It was worth every penny. My only complaint was the pause to load levels which would interrupt gameplay somewhat, but other than that it was excellent.
Good for gameplay for a long time

This game is, without a doubt, one of the best on the market today. Not only does it set the standerd for one-player gameplay, but it also provides much multiplayer fun as well. It does so not only with main-game multiplayer action, but "Team Fortress Classic", included with the game, my personal reason for buying several copies for me and my friends. This is a game played over the internet with many other people, allowing features, weapons, and fun galore for he who seeks it. So work extra jobs or pawn jewelry to buy this game, you won't be sorry.
AWESOME GAMEPLAY!!!

I haven't played a game in years that had me jumping, screaming, ducking, and sweating until I played Half-Life! I think I lost about 5-10 pounds just from all the excitement and adrenaline rushes. The AI was like playing against another person. There were times I actually yelled out in pain and cursed when I injured myself in the game. Many times I reloaded some save games just to fight the soldiers in the games because of the realism. Definitly a must have for the holidays.
Half-life,deemed one of the best games of '98, is incredible

i enjoyed hours of alien blasting fun while playing one of the most realistic and challenging games ive ever played...Half-life. i liked the intricate movements and particle effects of this award winner. i was also intrigued by the interesting and scientific story line that was acommpanied by great mood changing music.Although rather violent, i found it to be rather educational and i learned a few things, about physics and material decomposition.I still believe that Half-life is the best game i have ever tried.
