I have been playing Fighter Ace for a while and even the old ones are alright. Since 1997, Fighter Ace was a WWII flight combat game that you can play with REAL people! You can choose your side (Soviet Union, Germany, Japan, U.S.A, and Great Britan). Even though Fighter Ace 1 never had any bombers and not many fighters, they multiplied and Fighter Ace II came in. It was better than the first one. I have played all versions of Fighter Ace and none of them EVER lived up to the latest version of Fighter Ace! And you are able to download Fighter Ace 3.8. You can pick over 100 planes (including bombers) and you have to shoot down enemy planes, bomb tanks and enemy aircraft and then send troops down and they have to capture the enemy bases. Make a torpedo run on ships or bomb them, better if you bomb them.

The detail in Fighter Ace is great! You can push F4 and you can spy on an enemy aircraft! The gears are in the correct places, you can look around in the cockpit. And you can see the outside of your plane so you might dodge bullets and machine gun fire. You can also take-off from either a carrier or an airfield. Or land in a carrier or an airfield as well.

Now the best thing about Fighter Ace is the online version of the game. You can meet people from all over the WORLD and battle them in a Free For All match, or a Team Combat game. You can make your own arena using options that will affect gameplay. Whether it's windy, cloudy, or unlimited fuel and limited ammo, you can change maps and options like those. Now since this online game is watched by Ketsujin Studios, the players are polite and honest. I've never seen such FRIENDLY players in a game... Ever! No curse words, no sex, no blood, just shooting down airplanes is all in the game.

Now to enjoy the online adventure you have to subscribe to Ketsujin Studios and you have to put in email address and other information. You get a 2 week free trial (I'm still on the trial) before you have three options to pay cash with or without a credit card. 1. $14 per month. 2. $39 per 3 months. 3. $76 per month. Those are the options and I recommend using number 3. And Ketsujin will offer prizes for the winner of their special events.

Note: You will definatly need a joystick. I am visiting Chile during this writing and I didn't bring my joystick. You can use the keyboard but it'll be hard to shoot players down.

I had no luck getting Fighter Ace 3.5 to work on my PCs. I installed it on Windows 2000 and XP. When I try to fly, the plane stays in a left turn. You have to keep correcting the plane by countering with right turns. I contacted the support group and tried every fix they suggested. However, the problem has not been resolved. I would strongly suggest another game choice.

Some myths to be disparaged

Fighter Ace has not been a Microsoft product for some time now.
They went solo on their own with the staff who designed the game.

AH guys say FA pilots are biased?
Better look in the mirror, and it isnt just a kids game.
Many are from the older family crowd and very enthusiastic about the history and modeling of the aircraft in every possible detail.

It takes some practice to be good in the game.
I have flown every flight sim I could get my hands on and FA presented me with the best immersion and feel of them all.
(CFS 1-3, IL2, AcesHigh, WarBirds, X-Plane, Crimson Skies)

Its not about fighting premapped drones.
Its not about fighting hacked opponents.
It's facing real people in a sportsmans atmosphere.

For the price nobody can beat VR-1 & Jaleco for the package they have assembled hands down. CFS 3 Was pretty but still as flat a flight model as CFS2. And for the price of CFS I think MS bombed.
They should have stuck by the FA Platform its developers are among the very best in programming and as people.

Sincerely,
Chris Moor

Most advanced MMOG out there

Here is a game that offers a little bit for everyone:

It has Territorial Combat rooms, where the player can pick one of 5 countries to fight for. With others (averaging 250 pilots on any given evening), you can choose to bomb, drop troops, provide fighter cover, or hit tanks.

On the other side, there are simple dogfigting arenas, where you can fly as a team or even in a Free for All arena. The physics are relaxed a bit(unlimited fuel and ammo, no black or redouts) for easy enjoyable gameplay.

On the highest side, the people out for full realism can enjoy all the physics thrown right at them, and fight other planes without seeing their tags first.

This game truly is the cutting edge of MMOG flight sims. Sure, you can go play Battlefield1942 over at laggy gamespy with 32 or less players, but if you want to FLY there, its just silly. Combat Flight Sim and IL2 both are good games, but do not hold a candle to the online immersion of FA3.5.

The community is tight knit, as others have said. Unlike virtually any other game, troublemakers are quickly run off by the everpresent sysops, who really do a great job of keeping gameplay enoyable for all. Lets face it, anyone with any experience in online gaming has faced the "jerk", who is only there to cause trouble and disrupt a good time. FA polices itself well. The few bad ratings this game has got in customer service are from those people, angry I am sure, that for once they were not allowed to disrupt things.

The developers actively fly and converse with players in the newsgroups, something rarely seen in a videogame. The sysops run events week long. From Pin Point Parachuting, Canyon Races, Kings of The Sky (KOTS) Squad Matches, to full blown historical recreations with 1000's of pilots participating, the events are a blast.

Your fellow pilots will quickly become your friends and confidants. After a while, you will want to join a squadron so you can work even better as a team to bring your country to victory in Terrritorial Combat, or hold the KOTS room as champion of up to 5 equal squad matches.

This game truly has it all and I know any online gamer would have a blast in it, given the chance.

Show me this many people having this much fun ANYWHERE!

Found FA 4 years ago and haven't found a game this fun since! I have tried WB, AH, WW2OL and others and NONE match the knuckle clenching, heart pounding, adrenaline rush F U N!

Now, yes this game is played on the internet... so internet performance can cause issues. But ANY online game is subject to this and NONE pull off as much action and fun per person playing (up to 300+!!!) as Fighter Ace 3.5 can! Problems are identified and remedied as soon as practical and possible!

The community in this game is second to NONE. The developers and sysops are seen in game routinely. They have an active stance in gameplay issues and playability.

There is something for everyone who enjoys flying the virtual skies. 3 basic physics levels w/ various settings that reach for pure arcade to very realistic (not that silly stuff that you see in WW2OL and such) flight modeling.

You can fly fighters, bombers, torpedo planes, even cargo planes! There are constantly changing rooms that are updated regularly to keep game play challenging and fun, as well as a few rooms that based on popular room layouts.

So come on in and give it a fly... there are TONS of squadrons looking for new members and TONS of solo flyers looking for a wingman... YOU!

Absolutly Outstanding!!!

Do you like to fly?,,, Then Fighter Ace is the place for you. There is more of everything availible at Fighter Ace, so much so, you have to try it to believe it.
You like to fly alone? You can find a place to do that, just make your own custom arena.
You like to dogfight? Dogfighting goes on in several different arenas, at several different flight modelling levels, from Arcade up to level 10 advanced physics.
You like to fly a bomber and wreak havok? There is many different kinds ranging in size and payload, want a Fighter/Bomber so you can dogfight some, or strap yourself into a Lancaster, or a B17, all is here for you at Fighter Ace.
This game offers the best playability of any flight game BAR NONE. But thats not even the best part..............
Fighter Ace has a few things working in its favour that make it a must for any online flight gamer.
One of those is the community that plays it, probably the most polite and respectful online community there is, which is amazing considering just how competitive it can be. The benefit of being able to pump someone full of lead, instead of lashing out with a keyboard. There are many organized squads, and they are always happy to have someone fly along and help out, many new pilots find homes with these squads, and asking if you can come along and help is a great ice breaker, and always appreciated. There is a fully active newsgroup, for helping each other with PC or game issues, or just for sharing your thoughts and haveing fun.
Keeping it all together, and running smooth, is the best volunteer group any community could ask for, the FAVG(Fighter Ace Volunteer Group), you will generally always be able to find an @FA3 close by to help solve any issue, whether it be an abusive player, help in setting up game, or flight training. The FAVG has set a very high standard, and the community very much appreciates thier efforts, so much so, that the community itself supports thier efforts and helps out when they can. It is not uncommon to see a new pilot being helped by a community member.
The programmers are continually making additions, and improvements to the game, new arenas, historical battles, fixing issues brought to them by the community, in short, this game will NEVER stagnate, it will always be improving in 2 ways, by the new members that join us, and by the countless hours the people who put it together spend, making it even better still, which is hard to imagine, something so good, getting even better.
Id recommend you at least try it, you sure wont regret it.

Pick a country and a plane and a strategy to match your temperament. Bombers, troop transports, fighter bombers, and fighters. High flying fast fighters, low flying quick turning fighters, fighters with big cannons, nimble fighters with machine guns.

Enter the arena of your choice, there are free for all rooms, arcade style rooms with easy settings, territorial conquest rooms where teams take territory, and advanced rooms for the most realism. If you are new, just ask for help and you will have some new friends right away.

Awesome graphics, clouds and blue sky, rain and shine, day and night time, sun and moon and wind and water. Airports, towns, factories, oceans. Ships, tanks, railroads, bridges. But not all is peaceful and beautiful. There are enemy bombers coming, and if you just sit there beside the runway, you might get hit by one! Avoid the potholes in the runway as the bombs explode around you while you take off. Watch out for the bomber cover plane coming in behind you, circle back into the base antiaircraft fire to let it tear him up! That'll teach him for trying to get you while taking off! Ten minutes into the game, and your adrenaline is already flowing. You can jump right into the action and risk everything right away, or you can switch to a quiet base and build up some altitude and speed before engaging with the enemy. Team up with some friends and see if you can dominate your corner of the map. You can fly formation with them on autopilot. You can use radar, map view, and enemy padlock view to keep an eye on the enemy and prevent anyone from jumping you unawares.

This game has the best view controls of any flight simulator. In addition to the expected hat switch views, you can quickly switch views between nearest enemy, next enemy, and friendly planes. With practice, you can hold these views through dogfighting maneuvers without becoming disoriented. Because of this, it has the most intense action of any flight simulator. Pilots quickly learn situational awareness, and a good thing, too, because it can be very dangerous in there. You soon find out that it pays to know the strong points and weak points of your own and your enemy's plane, and try to gain the advantage by using tactics that will favor your strengths. The result, flying against all real people in the game, is an endless series of combinations that never gets boring or repetitive. There is always more to learn, someone you just can't beat, more territory to take, another level to explore.

The game is playable on lower end computers as long as the settings are adjusted accordingly. The interaction is designed to take place over phone modem connections. Of course, if you have a higher speed connection, the game play is a little more stable, although a high percentage of players do just fine with dialup connections. And, if you have a higher end system, the game is designed to take advantage of that, too. High resolution graphics are absolutely stunning with late model video cards.

The game has gone through several iterations and there were some bugs to be worked out. The game programmers have tirelessly worked to perfect the game, and the major issues have been resolved. The fun factor is back, and this game is ready for prime time!

This game would be a great flight simulator even without the online play. The online play makes the game addictive. And the friends you make in the game will keep you coming back for years.

A real review

Well, looking at the reviews it looks like most is seasoned FA players who are pretty biased.

I got this game as a christmas present from a relative who knows i played Aces High in the past.

I would never subscribe to this game unless i had got it for free as i was a AH junkie. In the AH community FA is something for kids only as the flight model is arcade only, Microsoft is involved, graphic does not do a sim and AH has the best community among every sim.

I am very new to FA and have not really been flying sims for the last six month or so it is with some regeret i have to say that everything i heard about FA in the AH community except for one thing is not true.

My oppinion is that FA 3.5 is surperior to AH in most aspects. It is true that FA is what in FA terms would be advanced but the different levels in FA is very good. I like level 7 - 9 best and the fact is that graphics means quite a lot to the total experience. I just love to watch these aircrafts from outside, which sometimes get me killed. The strategy concept, Territorial Combat (TC), is the best i have seen. It is true that in AH i could grab a tank or a ship but the strategic impact is very low. In FA TC you can not survive and win without working in team. The best example of this was a high level room that i think was called "paratroop room" where you could only win scenes by dropping paras on the targets.

The flight models in the higher levels is actually better than AH (my oppinion).

The areas where i think AH is surperior to FA is the community and how it communicate. AH has a very dedicated community that does not spend most of the posts to complain and hit others. My feeling is that a lot of the posts in the FA NG is about that. Despite that the people that fly FA is very very good and there is no problem getting help from people. When i came in i was immediately attacked by someone and he sent a GF to me. I responded by saying to him that this was my first time in FA. He then offered me to go to another room for practice, very nice. This goes to the staff as well.

Another thing that is really bad in FA and very good in AH is the forum. It is really so bad that i dont spend any time there and i know others that put that up as a reason not flying FA. The reason is that I like to be part of the community and read the AH messageboard every day. It is browser based and very easy to access. It is also organized very well with a lot of interesting topics sorted into different forums. This is a major drawback to the FA community as i believe that it makes the game less interested being forced to a tricky and boring non structured news group format. Personally i can not believe that Jaleco doesnt have a similar forum that most other games have.

My review of Figher Ace is that it is a really dangerous game as it has the ability to hook people and destroy relationships. I find my self playing more than i should as it is really good and interesting. The reason why i can not give it a 5 and may loose interest is the forum, which for me is a very important piece of the game play, it [stinks].

Cheers

Alex
