Awesome WWII air war game!

I bought this game for my dad several years ago for his birthday. I don't know who played it more - him or myself! I think I may have.

Having never flown or fought in a Mustang, P-47, Masquito, etc... I can't speak for the realism of the flight sim. But, all I know is that I would become transported into these planes for hours... flying over France and Germany hunting-down and blowing bandits out of the sky. Great fun!

What I want to know is WHY there is still no version of the game for Windows XP and higher! My dad upgraded his computer a few years ago and we can't play it anymore. Bummer!

This is a fun game with lots of great scenarios played within historically correct air campaigns. Highly recommended... but you have to have an older PC with Windows 98 and no later. :-(

I got ripped off. Don't buy from this seller.

When looking at the details regarding this game prior to purchasing it, it stated that it had a few scratches that would not interfere with game play. Guess what? Those few scracthes turned out to be enough to prevent me from playing the game at all. Don't trust this seller.

Since my earliest days I've had an amateurish facination with World War II aviation, and in particular that of the western European theater, and have always fantacized about what it must have been like to fly these warbirds. Not that one can compare the real thing to a computer simulation, but European Air War certainly gives one a fair impression. For me that's all I need, and am very content with this game even though it is getting somewhat dated.

EAW remains a brilliant immersive WWII flight sim

With the amount and quality of *freeware* addon theatres, aircraft, and graphical enhancements EAW remains a high quality immersive gaming experience. The EAW community have now completed out of the box complete addon theatres for the Pacific (Midway and Guadalcanal), North Africa/Malta, and France/Dunkirk 1940. The Battle of Britain 1940 and European 1942-45 campaigns have been thoroughly upgraded. New theatres are on the way for the Spanish Civil War, the Winter War in Finalnd, and China 1937-39.

EAW continues to inspire!

I have been around computers now for most of my adult life. I bought my first desk top computer in 1990 and my first lap top in 1996. But I never considerd playing games on them, I mean computers were only for work. Right?
I might also mention that I flew fighters,(F-18/F-4)for 12 years in the Marine Corps. Well, the other day I was at the store and saw a game that caught my eye. My former fighter pilot intrest got the best of me so I took a chance and bought "European Air War" by Infogrames. Keep in mind that I had never been much of a "gamer", but when I saw the capabilty within this game I bought a new joystick and began to play regularly. I became so involved with this one game I bought the best desk top computer with the most advanced graphics card that I could find.
I now enjoy other games about WWII, but I am greatful to this one game that reopened up my eyes to that razor sharp world of being a fighter pilot. The skills I once used Fly my F-18 are still viable in these games. Only now I get to fly really cool aircraft like the P-47!
I give this this game 5 stars because of the sheer enjoyment it has given me, by allowing me to revisit my fighter pilot roots.

EAW is still great!

This sim reached the stands in 1998 and it has aged very well. In concept, it is probably the finest since Lucas Arts "Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe" released in the early 1990's. EAW puts the sim pilot into the action quickly and with all of the action one would expect from an ETO based game.

Also, there is a large EAW group creating skins, sounds and new campaigns for the game so it is better now than when originally released. So, get it now and enjoy.

One of the better flight sim war games

I've probably seen all of them from the WWII era, from the old 1942 Pacific air war to IL-2 Sturmovik. This is one of the most entertaining. It flies pretty well and the graphics are almost as good as some of the later ones. It has given me a lot of pleasure.

I rank the best ones as follows: IL-2 (Sturmovik); Janes WWII Fighters; Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 2 (Pacific Theater); Microsoft's Flight Simulator (WWII Europe Series); and finally this one: European Air War,by Microprose.

My ranking is based on quality of graphics, smoothness of manuever with a good computer (mine is a 1.8 Ghz Gateway Pentium 4 with a half-gig of RAM and ATI) and the flight modelingof the aircraft (how close to the real aircraft they are in their performance). My judgment on the latter is based on the fact that I have flown a variety of real prop driven aircraft since I soloed in 1946, as well as many radio-controlled models.

User add-ons to European Air War make it the BEST!

This game is the best WWII European theater Air War sim available. Yes, it is 3 years old now, but there are TONS of very high-quality free add-ons available that really take it to a completely new level. Don't judge this game by what is just in the box-- new planes, terrains, campaigns and other graphical improvements by the user community are what make this so special. Do a google search on European Air War or EAW and you can find some nice sites for add-ons.

READ THIS !!! It might change your mind!!!

I bought this game, and I expected it to be awesome. I was kind of disappointed.Well, 1st of all, the gameplay was ok. The stability was not so incredibly good. Sometimes the game will shut down after a mission( the missions are ok, but it takes a long time for each 1). It was easy to learn. Multiplayer on the web isnt that great, because NO BODY plays on the internet with this game. Its just too old, which also is the reason for my 3-star rating. The graphics aren't as good as the cover looks, believe me. The smoke from planes is a greenish color. Sounds weird, huh? Well thats the way it is on my computer. I guess I should have considered that this game was made in 1998. Well, I guess this game was good a few years ago, but its just too outdated.

P.S. this game doesn't run on 2000 or ME (it says 95-98 on the box)
