I would normally try to give you a comprehensive review, but if you're always looking for the next best RTS (like me) you're probably already familiar with this game.
Forget about comparing it to previous Dune titles. I'm constanly running into the same game with different fixings: C&C, Age of Empires, Star Wars, and now Dune. Collect, spend, fight, collect, spend, fight. Boring but still fun if you haven't tired of the same old formula.
Best game ever (with the drawbacks of course)

Alright id have to say overall this game was great. Ive been playing the game for years, seen he movie about a milion times an read all of the books (thats like 8 of em i think) and am currently on that new one that came out about the butlerian Jihad. This game overall is a good portayal of the dune theme and augmented excellently into a game that stands by itself apart from Frank and Brians other Dune acheivements. It has some good details for one. I especially liked that if Sardukar hit sheilded lazer cannons they both explode :). In other respects the original is bastardized in countless ways. The are TONS of minor inaccuracies that taken alone are just annoying but so many of them together are a drawback. Just a few examples are the Artredes Kindjal infantry, The whole concept of holtzman generators being destroyed in few hits and moving across the sand, the high levels of technology which are shunnd by the great houses. There are also the major discrepancies in plot. First off what the hell is the whole war? there was never a war of assasins in anything ive read. And second is... umm house Ordos? their gonna create an entire house just for the game? As you can see i am an extreme Dune geek and i know i focused on the negative in this review but despite the minor drawbacks i emphasized, its an incredible buy.

well, another game from westwood, another very unfair game from westwood. This game graphics r pretty bad(good for the time though) so im not going to complain about that. The one thing that made my rating for it so low was because the ONLY tactic the computers use is mass rushing, which ive noticed the atredies are by far best at. They have the best unit in the game by the way, which has best attack force, and best defence Its speed is preety terrible, but if you try to run out in the open to try to kill it, the other computers attack you before you can as much as weaken it. I wouldn't reccommend this game to any new real time strategy players; however i would reccommend it to people who enjoy rushing games.

Played the game for about 2 hours at a friend's and in that time I had 5 "bluescreens of death" and 2 stalls where I had to reset the PC. Might be because its a prerelease he got I don't know where, but I hope the released version will be more stable. I'll definitly let someone else buy it first to see if it's more stable before I buy it.
Judging from the screenshots...

...How can we not give this a 5-stars? This has gotta be the coolest RTS. Each game Westwood released is a perfected version of the previous, who cares about innovation when we have a game with gorgeous graphics and refined gameplay? For those who biased against Westwood, even warcraftiii.net said it absolutely pleases.
a good game

This game is very good. it may be impossibble to beat though. You have to capture all the territories of a mjority of the planet and capture the planet. It is like commmand and conquer but you must make you own alliances,(and lose them)defend territories, make sure you don't retreat or forfeit to much or you will be executed. It is slightly corny that some of the charecters from the movie/book are in this with different names. overall this is a very good 3-d strategy game

Don't let the title fool you. Yes, I liked this game. It just seemed like it was missing something. It doesn't have a very good story to go with it. Also, the battles seem somehow detatched. No real emotion to them. Before, you seemed to be a part of it. Now you can scroll out to see more of the battlefield, but it's more like scrolling away from drama. I just didn't feel like part of the game anymore.
Would I still buy it again? Yes. I still love all of these types of games. The graphics are great, but I am usually looking at the map from so high up just so I can see the battlefield, that I don't really get the benift of them. Could have used some more types of units. You play on the same maps again and again. That gets a little annoying. I can't wait until more come out.
Emperor is an engaging 3d RTS despite major flaws

Emperor: Battle for Dune is Westwoods first 3d RTS, and the sequel to the revolutionary Dune II. Emperor has both excellent graphics, and an engaging storyline, but it still feel somewhat derivative of its predecessor. There are three major campaigns pitting the noble Atriedes, sinnister Harkonen, and devious Ordos against each other. The campaigns are simple, and at times frustrating and repetitive, but the game stays true to it's legacy, with it's simple gameplay and excellent graphics. Emperor is packaged with high-quality multiplayer as well.

This game rocks. I love the detail available as well as the ability to do many different things within the gane. My only negative comment might be that on a standard PC the game is sometimes a bit choppy speedwise. Aside from that I heartily recommend this game.
