Amazing Graphics and Animation

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 12 / 12

This game has awesome graphics and animation, seamlessly blended together. It looks more like an animated film than a game. The sound is also very cinematic - powerful, dramatic, reminiscent of the best film scores. This is great if your main reason for playing games is to explore cool worlds and enjoy the scenery/storyline, but if you are more interested in a challenge, this may not be the game for you. Some of the puzzles are moderately challenging, but there aren't many of them. The game ends too soon, after 4-6 hours. Buy it anyway. It's an experience you shouldn't miss.

Very Much Enjoyed This Game

First of all, I am 40 *cough* years old, so my patience for some of the more complicated puzzle games tends to wear thin. I go for games that grab me visually and story-wise.

I've always loved Dracula and when I saw this, I grabbed it. I was pleased from the moment the game began. Here was a game that I could walk through and get caught up in. And believe me, the sound effects do draw you in, as do the superb 3D graphics! I made sure to turn up my sound and that certainly enhanced the creepiness of the game.

As for the puzzles, they were fairly simple; gather objects, choose which one to use where. Some of the later puzzles took more thought.

Like the other reviewers, I wish the game were longer; so, I purchased Dracula: The Last Sanctuary. I have not played that yet, but will soon.

I highly recommend this game if you're like me and enjoy a game for its music, graphics and story.

Very, very spooky

You sit there watching the intro movie. Suddenly you find yourself in a snowy countryside - outside in the dark - with a full moon overhead and THINGS rustling around. You make for the inn right in front of you, but the whole building is hung with garlic bulbs. It really doesn't feel much safer ...

Dracula is a seriously unnerving game. It's not gory, it's not full of things running after you - it's wandering around in dark places at night with rustly, squeaking noises around you. It's even worse when you get to the castle and you can hear stone grating around, apparently by itself-?

The graphics are very good, the characters precisely modelled, right down to bad teeth. (Ugh.) The scenes are brilliant, even the snowy outdoor scenes which are reputedly a nightmare to do. The story is also exciting, as you not only try to rescue Mina but to avoid Dracula's peasant henchmen and bats, as well as taking the really dangerous route - of course - to the castle. But the animations are truly spectacular, in particular Jonathan's escape from the mine in the cart.

There is one downfall to Dracula: namely, it's very dark. Not gothic dark or plot dark, just plain dark. Most of the time when you're indoors you can't see where you're going. It wouldn't be so bad, but key items and locations are hidden in these dark areas. I had to use hints just to FIND things.

Other than that, this is a good game, if a bit short.

needs to be packaged with dracula 2

i did this recently in windows, after having completed the "last sanctuary" for mac. my like for the last sanctuary caused me to purchase the resurrection. what i found is that the resurrection is very short and easy. i would normally give a poor rating for this except that the graphics were wonderful, the story engaging, and the atmosphere outstanding. for example, the game opens in eastern europe on a freezing night. the fields and farm buildings convey the chilling surroundings perfectly (incongruously, the pond is not frozen). despite its easiness, there were a couple of difficult places; i spent 2 days pixel hunting for one item in draculas castle, but it turned out to be large and in plain sight. dracula 2 takes the good aspects and adds a lot of length and difficulty.

i think that dracula 1 would be better as part of the second game rather than a separate game in itself.

A Good Game, But...

After playing "Dracula Resurrection" I was torn about how to rate it - not sure if I should give it 3 or 4 stars. The reason for this is that, although I really enjoyed playing this game, there were a few downfalls that I felt were pretty significant.

In "Dracula Resurrection" you play Jonathan Harker - a man who believed he had already killed Dracula 7 years before. However, after receiving a disturbing letter from his wife Mina stating that her urges to return to Dracula's castle had overwhelmed her & that she was going back, he now realizes that Dracula is still alive & well - and so he must go back to the castle to defeat Dracula once & for all & save his wifes life. Will he succeed, or will he die trying?

Overall, I thought the graphics & story line were quite good. I also liked that most of the things you had to do made sense - so I didn't have to refer to a hints site too often (I used UHS hints). However, as I said before, this game does have some downfalls - these include: the beginning is really slow (but if you can hang in there, it does get much better); during the first part of the game, with nearly everyone you talk to, the sound track stutters (which is really annoying); once you get to the 2nd CD, each time you decide to play you have to put the 1st CD in again until it gets to the main page & then you have to put the 2nd CD back in - so if you leave to get hints, you have to do this CD shuffle before you can start playing again.

Even with these downfalls, I would still highly recommend "Dracula Resurrection" to anyone who enjoys mystery &/or "horror" games. It really was a lot of fun, once you get past the beginning...

I'd Rather Be Watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer

This was more of a point-and-click movie than a game. With fine graphics and a variety of characters to interact with, I expected more than what this short, easy game offered. While the storyline was interesting to a point (rescue-the-girl is not very original) the end was simply an opening for a possible sequel rather than a satisfying conclusion or even a showdown with Dracula or his henchmen. The most interesting thing to do in this game is to laugh at the unfortunately named character, "Dorko," when she says "Tremble before the rise of Dorko!" In short, beginners and/or people who like pretty graphics more than a challenge will enjoy this game--seasoned gameplayers will likely be disappointed.

Very fun game.

Was this game very challenging? No. But it was a blast to play. The puzzles were very "real" and by real I mean that you would find an item and you pretty much knew what you were going to do with it. The puzzle got a little harder once you got to the Castle, but this game only took me about 6 or 7 hours to beat. But the graphics and the cut scene were excellent. The music set the tone for every area you went to. It was very eerie and creepy. I would rate this game closer to 3 1/2 stars because it just wasn't a serious challenge, but for the price it was well worth it.

Great way to spend a late night

For those of us that don't have unlimited amounts of time to spend on games, this game is ideal. The game is simple and enjoyable. I didn't have time to spend time working out complex puzzles that had nothing to do with the plot of the game. Plus, the graphics are fantastic! Most of the steps in the game were logical. But, there were a few times towards the end that didn't make a lot of sense.

This isn't an action game, but it's a lot of fun. Late at night, I would turn out the lights in my computer room, turn up the speakers and listen to the howling wind in the background of the game while I played.

Great game for vampire lovers.

Mina has returned to Transylvania. You, as Jonathan Harker, must follow her and save her from Dracula. Explore a dark forest, find your way through a mine and a castle full of traps and unknown chambers. Puzzles and riddles will slow you down (kind of), as you work your way closer to saving your wife and defeating the Prince of Darkness.
Well, not really. Some of the puzzles are very easy, while others seem VERY hard. But if you examine everything and try your best, you should be able to save your wife. No time limites and no way to die.
No ending, either. Better go get the next game!

Loved it!
