Horrible... Just Horrible

Wow... talk about a shocker. I loved EE1 and thought that EE2 would be one heck of an improvement. I could not have been more wrong. My first clue was how slowly my mouse was moving on the screen... ok, so I'll just adjust the mouse options and speed them up. Guess what... there are 2 mouse options, reverse buttons and scroll speed. That's it. Unreal. (and for all you who like to dismiss complaints like that b/c of a poor system, let me just say that this is running on a 2 month old P4 3.2Ghz (HT) with 1 G ram, top of the line GeForce card on a custom built platform so this is a game play issue, not a system issue.)

Alright, so I'll try to play anyway... what's a little mouse lag. So I go to configure the map. Remember all those great little selections from other games (terrain age, wetness, etc). Those are missing too. Yeah you get to pick a few options but nowhere near as many as I'd like (or as many as are in most other games). Fine, I'll suck it up... So I picked "Gigantic Map"... guess what... It ain't very gigantic. I have a civilization on each side of me and can't build too much b/c the territory is so frickin small. So, let's go kill some nieghbors... no, can't do that until you build a university, garrison some citizens and then RESEARCH how to attack. C'mon. That's just stupid.

Now I know each game has a learning curve, so I try to stick it out. Let's build a little army, do a little research and get on with it. A note on the research... I can't seem to tell that it makes any difference. It really is hard to determine which technologies do which (instead of being "gunpowder" they have names like "spear point"(having nothing I might add to do with Archery or spearmen)).

For sake of my fingers, I'll stop the list now but let me assure you the litany of mistakes go much beyond what I have written here. How this game has been rated so high by everyone I'll never know. The concept is great, the graphics are good but the interface and game play suck to level I can only barely describe. How this ever got out of Beta this way is beyond me.

For the first time in a long time I played a game for less then an hour, pulled it out of the cd and I plan to send it back to the manufacturer with a little note saying I do not "accept the license terms".

I guess I would be less upset if this had been one of those "bargain" rack games for 9.99 that you had never heard of and we're taking a risk on but this is EMPIRE EARTH. One of the acknowledge masters of the RTS world.

How sad to see such a great franchise like EE die such a slow and ugly death. Sierra... What the heck happened!?!?!?

Major disappointment

I thought this game would be a great one and an improvement over the first EE. Well, not quiet, this EE2 has nothing to offer, the grqphics look like the ones in Age of Empires II (realeased in 1999 I believe). The game runs slow, i have a computer with the following specifications:
*Windows XP
*Dx 9.0c
*Intel Pentium 4 3.06 GHz
*2 GB of RAM
*256 RAm video card

and yet the game runs slow.

I love Empire Earth I because the graphics are good, and the game runs smoothly...This new released now is a major disappointment, and I dont understand why if the graphics are not good. The gaphics of this game look like a paint by an abstract painter.
If you have played the first Empire Earth, you will see the difference between EE I and EE II, and you will go back to the first one.

Save your money and play EE I ntil these guys come with a real improvement over EE I.

Don't waste your time and/or money!

This unbelievably slow-paced game adds nothing new to the genre: Empire Earth 2 is just "yet another" RTS. The plethora of units only detracts from the game (who needs to memorize 300+ units and their special characteristics), and the division of the game into "territories" has been one of the worst ideas EVER.

This game has been reviewed as "Rise of Nations"-esque. Don't waste your money with this, as Rise of Nations is a better game than this will ever become. The plethora of resources (remember, Rise of Nations already has had complaints about the number of resources IT has, Empire Earth II just increases even more resources you have to run around) are not manageable as there IS no idle-citizen auto-control.

All-in-all: Empire Earth II may contain some brilliant ideas, but the entirety of the game is pure, utter crap.

As always the sequel fails to live up to the original!

I bought this game with high hopes that it would be better than the first Empire Earth and was disapointed. The Graphics are maybe a little better but I wouldn't say they were anything spectacular.

One thing that is lacking in this game that was in the first is the ability to make your own civilization and what kind of characteristics it will have. You are offered a few different types of civilizations with preset characteristics and thats all the choice you have.

The AI in this game seems to be less of a challenge than in the first. While there may be some new units in the game they are still pretty much the same just have different names. Tech tree is more drawn out but the end result is the same. I have had the game 3 days and have already went back to the original, cause it was actually more challenging.

Bottom line it's just another example of a company trying to squeeze more money out of a sucessful title, but with nothing really new to offer, save your money and don't believe the hype!

Beware! Beware! Beware!

Hi to buyers of this game,
Beware!
I played this game at my friends house and guess what, it SUCKS !!! Do you know why? Because when I tryed to put some buildings on the terrain it turned red (that means that I can't put the building there), and guess what? My terrain wasn't at a mountain or something, it was on a flat ground!! Plus it doesn't have any custom civ. option and it doesn't have campaign builder.
Either way, Empire Earth 2 is just a game.
As a reviewer below had stated Empire Earth 1 is better because it have calamities that are caused by prophets, which are not in this game for some kind of reason. Either way save your money on Empire Earth 1 which is now very chip, and the BEST! Or wait till Empire Earth 3 comes out in about 2 years I think, which I hope will ROCK THE WORLD!!!

What a disappointment

Empire Earth 1 was brilliant. I purchased this game hoping to find our next Lan party game but was so incredibly disappointed.

It felt like a huge lack of units and it was simple to outtech the AI even on the hardest levels.

I was even able to form treaties with both AI while they duked it out and then wipe them from the face of the earth once I hit level 15.

Also disappointing is that the game requires the CD in the drive to play. Most modern games don't anymore. I'm guessing the pirates they are trying to stop aren't hindered by this CD check and the consumers that paid for the game are.

Gee I really liked Empire Earth Gold. So I put EE2 on my wish list and got it. What a bummer! These guys took a great game where you could play from the begining of civilization and trashed it. So tommorrow 2 days after Xmas I am selling this dog and hopefully will get a tenth of the price for it.

Very disappointing.

Not up to the hype. Pitiful outdated graphics. Slow and boring.

You should buy Empire Earth 1
This game rocks!!!!
Empire Earth 2 sucks!!!!
Note: Empire Earth 1 could be hard on Easy level, sortoff. If you don't like challenge buy Age of Empires 2, Age of of Empires 3, Age of Empires 1, and Empires: Dawn of the Modern World. However, the outcome could be that all 4 games that I listed can have less units. If you don't mind this then that what you should buy. If not, and you like epochs, bunch of units, and cool calamities, then you should buy Empire Earth 1. Plus, if you like robots and all other wierd futuristic stuff, the you should try Empire Earth 1. Trust me, you will be hooked for a day if you buy it. Enjoy!

Doesnt work

The only good this game is good for is crashing your computer. when it works it extremely slow and unplayable. You have to hack the configuration files just to get it somewhat playable when it should work right out of the box. The developer abandoned support. If you get it working for the 10 minutes that it does work the graphics are terrible. Empire Earth 1 is better, the graphics were better and the game was playable. What happened this time??

Do not buy this game. Save your $50 and get Rise of Nations or Empire Earth 1 instead. Wait until this in the 9.95 bargin bin if you want to try this junk out. Mad Doc please spare us Empire Earth III.
