Although I was not a huge fan of the original Empire Earth, I found that after playing the demo for EE2 the developers and designers had really gone back and made some sorely needed changes to a game that I thought was second rate to games like Rise of Nations or even Epires, DotMW. The original Empire Earth seemed a bit rough around the edges and unpolished, but the core gameplay was satisfactory. Overall, I didn't think highly of the game and it didn't stay long on my hard drive when compared with other RTS games.
With EE2, the designers made several changes that I personally found very rewarding and helped improve the flow and feel of the game. First of all, the game now centers on the control of territories, which really give the game a sense of control and direction. The other key element is a feature that allows you to make and send battleplans to human and AI players regarding your actions. This latter feature, while not seeming like a big deal in itsself, really shows that the developers wanted a strong multiplayer component right out of the box. And certainly, the multiplayer is probably the best part of EE2.
On the down side, EE2 still suffers from the basic flaw of its predacessor and certainly of many other games in the genre. Despite the designers including a 'peasant management tool', the game still becomes somewhat mired in basic resource management, even in the late phases of the game. Also, the game (very much like EE1) has a bit steeper of a learning curve than most other comparable RTS games. I compare EE2 closely to Rise of Nations, and comparatively I see EE2 as a definately more complex game that requires a bit more to become comfortable with.
Summary:
Pros- Territory based play, battleplan feature, much better overall than EE1.
Cons- Pain in the butt peasant management, steep learning curve.
Overall- *WELL* worth the cost of purchase, but requires a bit more than other RTS games in terms of learning the ins and outs and in managing some of the more tedious aspects of the game.
Major disappointment

I thought this game would be a great one and an improvement over the first EE. Well, not quiet, this EE2 has nothing to offer, the grqphics look like the ones in Age of Empires II (realeased in 1999 I believe). The game runs slow, i have a computer with the following specifications:
*Windows XP
*Dx 9.0c
*Intel Pentium 4 3.06 GHz
*2 GB of RAM
*256 RAm video card
and yet the game runs slow.
I love Empire Earth I because the graphics are good, and the game runs smoothly...This new released now is a major disappointment, and I dont understand why if the graphics are not good. The gaphics of this game look like a paint by an abstract painter.
If you have played the first Empire Earth, you will see the difference between EE I and EE II, and you will go back to the first one.
Save your money and play EE I ntil these guys come with a real improvement over EE I.
As always the sequel fails to live up to the original!

I bought this game with high hopes that it would be better than the first Empire Earth and was disapointed. The Graphics are maybe a little better but I wouldn't say they were anything spectacular.
One thing that is lacking in this game that was in the first is the ability to make your own civilization and what kind of characteristics it will have. You are offered a few different types of civilizations with preset characteristics and thats all the choice you have.
The AI in this game seems to be less of a challenge than in the first. While there may be some new units in the game they are still pretty much the same just have different names. Tech tree is more drawn out but the end result is the same. I have had the game 3 days and have already went back to the original, cause it was actually more challenging.
Bottom line it's just another example of a company trying to squeeze more money out of a sucessful title, but with nothing really new to offer, save your money and don't believe the hype!
Great graphics - Poor playability

I have been playing Strategy games since 1985. I remember a game originally written for Unix computers that was illegally translated to the PC called Empire. The first RTS games like Age of Empires blew me away and I followed that line until Age of Mythology. At that point, I switched to The Empire Earth series and played Empire Earth until Empire Earth II was released. I couldn't wait to buy it, but I have been very disappointed. The game has great graphics and sound, but the computer opponents don't play very well and are pretty easily defeated. Age of Mythology chased me away from the Age of Empires series and Empire Earth II has chased me away from the Empire Earth series. I am now playing Age of Empires III. It is a much better game. If you are new to RTS games, you will have fun with Empire Earth II but if you have been doing this for a while, I would pass on this game.
Good Game, But EEI Is Better

Don't get me wrong, EEII is a good game. But it isn't as good as EEI. The thing that messed it up is it tried to combine the characteristics of Rise of Nations with the classical EEI. Rise of Nations is not as good as EEI, and when the two were mixed, you got a slower, much worse off game. The people who play the Empire Earth series are not looking for borders and what, seven different resources. They are looking for an RTS that you build and you conquer, quite simply. Bottom line- Empire Earth should not play like a game which has features beyond conquest and economy. In Sierra trying to do that, it has wrecked a game I thought would be a better version of EEI. What I got was Rise of Nations II.
Just a small simple review

I've played RTS games for a long time. Most of them won't wow you with the graphics but make up for that in gameplay. I had been itching to purchase this game ever since it came out but really didnt want to dish out the full price. I remember the first EE to be a whole lot better (gameplay and graphics wise) than this pile of crap. The graphics arent good... at all. I dont think i've seen so little detail put into units since the original Age of Empires. But, just because the graphics are terrible doesnt mean the gameplay is bad...or does it? Gameplay is pretty crumby. I'm not really sure what it is about it... but it makes me want to yawn. Audio is terrible as well. Bomb blasts, mortars, gunfire... it all sounds so muffled. But this is just a personal review from my experience with this product. I just wish there was a "I want my money back button" as so many people have said in the past. :\
Don't waste your time and/or money!

This unbelievably slow-paced game adds nothing new to the genre: Empire Earth 2 is just "yet another" RTS. The plethora of units only detracts from the game (who needs to memorize 300+ units and their special characteristics), and the division of the game into "territories" has been one of the worst ideas EVER.
This game has been reviewed as "Rise of Nations"-esque. Don't waste your money with this, as Rise of Nations is a better game than this will ever become. The plethora of resources (remember, Rise of Nations already has had complaints about the number of resources IT has, Empire Earth II just increases even more resources you have to run around) are not manageable as there IS no idle-citizen auto-control.
All-in-all: Empire Earth II may contain some brilliant ideas, but the entirety of the game is pure, utter crap.
Very good, but still needs a little improvement

this game rox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! everything is excellent about EE2 except 5 things: 1)every unit goes really fast! example, planes, can reach the other side of the map in about 10 seconds. ships can do it in about 20 seconds. 2)there can only be a certain number of each type of building on each territory. ex: 6 houses. 3)Aircraft carriers can only hold 4 planes, but i guess thats ok, because a plane can stay in the air for as long as it has ammo left. once its used up, it must land. no flight time, more missions, more destruction among enemy. (yesss!!!) 4)it will take you a long time to get to the next age. you have to hav enough "tech points" to advance. in the end, i seem to always be many epochs ahead of my enemies, and cream them soooo bad!!!! in my advice, always start and end in the same epoch. 5) the subs have to surface to shoot torpedoes. but that isnt a real problem, because destroyers can slaughter them really easily, whether submerged of surfaced. enough with the cons. how about the pros? for one thing, this game will never freeze up on you, unlike Empires Dawn of the Modern World. (unless of course, you have a terribly slow computer) the AI is excellent too. a real challenge. another thing, you can make plans to attack your enemies, assuming you have any. the plans you make are actually followed by your ally! (a first) this game i highly reccomend for any big RTS gamer. another thing: there are paratroopers, unlike the first EE. i rated it 5 stars for fun b/c it is a great load of fun. 4 stars for overall because of the few disadvantages i mentioned above. my advice: BUY THIS GAME!!!!! ITS WORTH THE MONEY!!!!!
this game rocks big time

Empire Earth 1 was brilliant. I purchased this game hoping to find our next Lan party game but was so incredibly disappointed.
It felt like a huge lack of units and it was simple to outtech the AI even on the hardest levels.
I was even able to form treaties with both AI while they duked it out and then wipe them from the face of the earth once I hit level 15.
Also disappointing is that the game requires the CD in the drive to play. Most modern games don't anymore. I'm guessing the pirates they are trying to stop aren't hindered by this CD check and the consumers that paid for the game are.
