Nifty and fun, but limited.

Let me start by saying that in general, I really enjoyed this game. I played through all the missions a couple of times, and some were downright challenging. I only give it three stars, though, because of several key factors.

The main drawback is that the AI is weak, in my opinion. The bad guys don't react particularly well when you start sniping their buddies. Rather, most of them tend to assume threatening postures but otherwise just stand around waiting to join the ranks of the worm feeders. Others will run around a bit and shout, but there is no real method to their madness. Again, they tend to be easy pickings.

Related to the weak AI is the fact that the bad guys are rather poor marksmen. My typical tactic playing through many missions was to find a suitable vantage point from which to engage at long range, reasonably confident that the return fire would be pretty inaccurate and not particularly threatening. Of course, if you start getting into closer quarters, their aim tends to improve just a bit.

The bad AI also applies to fellow team members. Alpha and Charlie teams (2 men each) were very poor about trying to be stealthy, and were wont to charge in with guns blazing only to find themselves promptly deposited in body bags. The net result is that the player (the one-man Bravo team) has to fulfill most mission requirements on his own.

I also disliked the fact that the bad guys were a little to easy to kill. Simply grazing one on the foot is enough for a KIA. This tends to cut both ways though, because the good guys also die with only one or at most two hits. On a related note, bullets don't penetrate soft objects like tents (but thankfully do break windows). Just a tad unrealistic.

On the plus side, the vast terrain areas allow a great freedom of movement and maneuver. Although there are preprogrammed mission plans for each level, the player is free to disregard them and "ad lib" as much as desired. This permits a fairly high degree of replayability.

I thought the graphics were decent but not great. The "night vision" effects are fairly neat, if not entirely realistic. The selection of weapons is not huge, but appropriate. The player's arsenal does not resemble that of a typical "shooter," but is still generous, consisting of a knife, sidearm, main armament (usually a rifle or machine gun), grenades, laser designator, and maybe a demo charge or LAW.

Although there are plenty of mission levels, each with its own imaginative story line, they all tend to feel the same during play. They all involve single-handedly (after you teammates get themselves wasted) killing several dozen terrorists, and occasionally rescuing a hostage, destroying a convoy, knocking out a radar site, etc.

Overall, this is an enjoyable game, and one which I will probably play again in the future. It's not all it could be, for the reasons described above... thus the sequels, which I will review separately.

Delta Force, lacking some important stuff.

Delta Force is overall an acceptable game to my standards, but it has some low points to it.

PROS: -There are about 40 missions in Delta Force that take place all over the world
- Huge environments to move your soldier around in.
-Fun missions that include hostage rescue, raiding terrorist bases, finding a bomb, ambushing a convoy of vehicles and many others.
CONS: -Only about 5 or 6 total weapons which [stinks]badly.
-Cheesy and cartoony moans that enemies make when they are shot.

-The guns dont move around when u walk, no idle animations
-When u scope with a rifle, it doesnt go full screen, just a circle that pops up with crosshairs.
-Graphics engine is showing age bigtime.

OVERALL: DF is pretty good, but needs some work. Buy it, play it, forget about it. 3 stars total -Patrick (Remeber its just an opinion so dont get mad if u disagree.)

Fun to play on medium skill, hard to play on hard skill. Weapons are realistic (with the exception of the naval bombardment feature, which is weak). Mission waypoints do place you in suicidal places, but you can use the "next waypoint" feature (keyboard W) to put the next waypoint up on the screen map.

Some AI is great, some weird. Occasionally bad guys will be firng full auto at you from inside a tent, acting as if you are not blocked (although they may be confused as to why a tent would block a 5.56 on full auto, too). You can often find it in a bargain bin at computer city, so llok there, too. If it is under $15, buy it.

Sniping is fun...

Delta Force is a first person shooter which puts you in the action as a soldier of Delta Force, US Military special force.

You have various missions to choose from, ranging from hostage rescues to convoy ambushes. It's best to stay alert and try not to be seen, since one shot at you can end your career in military quite fast.

Delta Force uses NovaLogic's Voxelspace engine which offers huge playable areas and doesn't use a 3D-Accelerator card. Because of that the system requirements are quite huge, and you'd best have at least a Pentium 2 class system or really good nerves (Tried with Pentium MMX 225Mhz, sloooow...).

Delta Force is a fun game. Sure, it has it's flaws, such as stupid AI (somethimes the enemies can't hit you even if they stand in front of you), and some other things, but as overall I enjoyed it very much. And it gets better in multiplayer mode. And what could be more fun than shooting bad guys with sniper rifle from 2 km distance?...

However, this is no Quake, you'll have to reconsider your strategies if trying to play this one like you play Quake. But Delta Force is no Rogue Spear either, it isn't that complicated, I think that Delta Force is something in the between.

I have been playing DF constantly for the past year. I discovered multiplayer about two weeks after I bought the game and have just played online since. This game is incredibly addicting. Competition is fierce. Novalogic's servers can often be laggy, but during the workday, traffice seems to lighten and you have a smooth game. If you want a really good bang for your buck, buy DF; stay away from DF II---too buggy and hard to play. DFI will give you a wild online experience you will come back to hour after hour..it's intense.

The best Delta Force of the 3!!!

Delta Force. The elite US military counter-terrorism unit. The best game for PC (in military games)!!Delta Force is a counter terrorism game that takes place in exotic locations around the world. As a Delta Force member, you can choose from 5 primary weapons ( by the way this is a FPS!) They are the M82A1 Barret .50 caliber sniper rifle capable of killing over a mile away. The M40A1 sniper rifle, which is a medium range sniper rifle, the M4+M203+ 4 times scope assault rifle- the primary weapon in this game. And, if u want ot be silent, use the Heckler& Koch MP5SD3 silenced submachine gun.The terrorist AI in this game is okay, but sometimes it will take them 3 seconds to notice your there. I dont really care about this, because it give you time to hit them where it hurts (!!!) Also, the terrorists communicate with foreign langauge, so you can hear there conversations. This is the best military FPS for the PC!...
