The Carnivores games are hands down my favorite hunting games. They give a certain "situational awarness" that other hunting games completely lack. Just like the other two in the series, Ice Age takes you on the hunt for prehistoric creatures. This time creatures from the ice age. The menu design for Carnivores: Ice Age is the exact same as Carnivores 2; with the exception of color, obviously. It also comes with some pretty eery menu music as well. A pleasant change from the previous wildlife sounds in the previous two. The graphics are generally the same as Carnivores 2. The creatures are a nice change as well. But you still have to watch your back. You could be hunting a wild boar and be ambushed by a smilodon (sabre-toothed tiger). It has happened to me. There is even a bonus creature that is very deadly. The background sounds in the game are pretty eery as well. During gameplay I usually find myself using the sounds more instead of my eyes. Definitely keeps you alert. All in all this game is a pretty good game. Even if you like hunting games just a little, this title may be worth your while. But if you are an avid hunter this game is a must. Carnivores: Ice Age is also the last in the series.
Very enjoyable-sometimes scary game.

This game is very fun to play. The animals all look very realistic and in general behave that way, although they occasionally get stuck on terrain. The basic premise of the game is this:
You are a rich hunter of the future. A new planet is discovered which is covered with snow and wind and filled with lots of dangerous animals. You, for a fee, may hunt these prehistoric beasts which are(not surprisingly) identical to earth's pleistocene animals. These animals include the Brontoteriy, a large, relatively passive herbivore (but beware, even though the menu and guide book say it is not dangerous, it will still kill you if you approach it too closely), a Wild Boar which can be dangerous if wounded at moderate to close ranges, a Wolf which I think is one of the most dangerous animals in the game(they blend in very well with the snowy surroundings, are small, lightning fast, take flying leaps at your throat, and very aggressive) Next in line is the wooly rhino, which is dangerous if wounded. After that comes the diatryma, a kind of really huge, really fast and mean bird that will happily kill you if it has even a remote clue that you are in the vacinity. The Giant Deer is next, which, like the Brontoteriy, is not that aggressive but will still attack if you stray too close. Now we get to the Smilodon (Sabre-Toothed Tiger for most of us). He is very aggressive, has supernatural ability to sense you, and gives a hair raising roar when he pounces for you. Verryyy resistant to bullets. Next comes the somewhat ovverated Mammoth and Cave Bear, which aren't all that dangerous compared with the smaller ones who are harder to hit. And finally the bonus animal-which is, suffice it to say-near impossible to kill. It takes about 7 direct blasts with the shotgun to bring it down, all the while it is weaving at 50 times your speed through the snowy terrain.
The islands are very pretty at dawn, and there are several other gameplay options like hunting at day or night, using a tranquilizer for extra points, and several weapons-the pistol, x-bow, shotgun and double barreled shotgun, the rifle, and the sniper rifle. The rifle is the best weapon in my opinion, due to its resonable aim and very fast rate of fire, combined with a good punch. The only problem is that you run out of ammo fast if you keep up sustained fire. The x-bow is also a good weapon. Don't bother with the pistol, it takes forever to kill anything other than small, placid herbivores, and will nearly always get you killed by carnivores through its bad aim and almost nonexistant stopping power. Just as a side note I think that the menu music is very creepy, just sit back and listen..
You can place your icy trophies in your trophy room, where you can walk up to and admire your animals in total 3d- alot better in my opinion than the simple, mounted heads in the deer hunter games. Walking up to the animals in the trophy room, especially things like the bonus, smilodon, the bear, and even the wolf, make you feel very small and feeble.....
Expect to lose a couple lives for hunting herbivores, and numerous lives while hunting carnivores. The death scenes are rendered well, but are admitedly graphic. There is no blood, but when a feeble, quavering corpse is impaled by a smilodon's sabre and beat against the ground, all the while horrid grunts are being made by the beast, it is startling for the first few times. You get used to it, although now and then I still jump when I am slowly creeping along, then a sharp bark pierces the errily still, always snowing atmosphere and you are in the massive jaws of a wolf being tattered to pieces. Or a yeti beats you to a meaningless puddle of blood in his massive hand. It is not for those who can't take dying many times at the hands of furry, although far from cuddly, beasts.
The hunting is realistic, and some animals provide a real challenge. Here is the game's main drawback: Once you kill decent specimens of all the animals- that's it. You can still hunt and all, but the several months of hunting work to find out what the mystery creature is, then to kill it, you have finished the game. It is almost anticlimatic. You simply have a full trophy room where you can gaze up at the eyes of your first bonus creature-listening to the errie arctic wind, and watching the lonely snowflakes melting ever so slowly on the frozen planet....
All in all, a great game if you like hunting big, dangerous, realistic animals in an arctic setting.

This is a very cool game!! You can hunt Mammoths, saber-tooth cats, wild boars, bears, and 7 other creatures. After you get 1000 credits, you can go after the bonus. It's a Yeti, a giant red-faced ape that trys to eat you. Don't think you're safe on a steep mountain, because Yeties can climb the mountains, too!!!
If you are killed by a Yeti, it is downright freaky. He grabs you in his hand and starts slamming you on the ground. I was shocked the first time I got killed, but now I think it's a big laugh. I have the other 2 dinosaur ones, too! If you're lucky, you'll see my reviews!
Scarry, but loads of fun.

I had a lot of fun playing this game. Now I only hunt animals over a certain size and leave the smaller ones alone. The cheat code helps out also. Just type it in, jump up in the air and after a few tries, land on top of a tree where nothing can get to you. I liked that you can hunt at dawn, day or night, kill or tranquilize an animal. To me this game doesn't get boring at all. If you enjoy first person shooting games I recommend this one.

Carnivores Ice Age is the best of the 4 games I think because I've always been pretty interested in ice ages. The dino's are definetely also the best of the games. The only thing I didn't like about the game was that it had the same weapons as carnivores 2.My favorite thing about the game was the kills. They were totaly sick!Especially the secret monster's [it really ticked me off when some stupid viewer revealed it.I'd say that if you're just looking for a fun hunting game to come play once in a while in awhile, get Carnivores Ice Age!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent game...really gives you a feel for what the ice age may have been like, and a sense of hunting excitement mixed with meditative beauty. I hope they come out with a more advanced version with animals that have a high AI, as well as footprints, wind, variable weather conditionand other options, like hunting with a spear!

I first played this game at a friends house and I loved it. I looked into findingn it and I finally found it at K Mart. I played non stop for about a month after that. The graphics aren't that great but when you are getting stomped to death by a brontitory all that doesn't really seem important. I like this game because you start out with a pistol and them you gradually move up to some cool weapons. This game has so many different ice age animals that it never really gets old.
