This game is just another sequel to Carnivores & Carnivores 2, with the exception you get to do it in the snow. And instead of meat hungry dinosaurs you go up against mammals. But don't kid yourself, they are just as dangerous as those dinos. And in the end there's a bonus animal you can get. Happy hunting.

Carnivores Ice Age is the best of the 4 games I think because I've always been pretty interested in ice ages. The dino's are definetely also the best of the games. The only thing I didn't like about the game was that it had the same weapons as carnivores 2.My favorite thing about the game was the kills. They were totaly sick!Especially the secret monster's [it really ticked me off when some stupid viewer revealed it.I'd say that if you're just looking for a fun hunting game to come play once in a while in awhile, get Carnivores Ice Age!!!!!!!!!!

Ice Age. Ice Age, Ice Age, Ice Age. Tut tut. Wow, they could have done a LOT more with that game.
So the first two Carnivores games were okay. The first one was great, the second one was surprisingly good considering it was a sequel, and I usually hate sequels, but it wasn't brilliant or anything. And, as with everything, Carnivores Ice Age, the third instalment, proved to be a bit of a disappointment.
Graphics: they're fine. That's not what the problem is here. The creatures all move perfectly, exept all of the four legged predators- the bear looks like some kind of demented pony when it tries to run. The bonus creature, which I shan't reveal to any potential buyers of this game, is possibly the best well done creature of Carnivores Ice:Age, though I think another, even better animal could have been selected to fill up its role-something much larger, like a Megatherium (look it up, dum-dum.) The environements are fine but incredibly samey- it seems like you're on the same island the whole way through. The only differing locale was 'Ravaren's Bridge,' because it had no actual snow, but let's face it I can't say that was fun to hunt in. The trees and vegetation are all right, despite they're not much to look at and simply clutter up the environments in some cases. Why couldn't they have made an enviromnment that was totally flat, but in a constant blizzard, so you could only see about 20 metres in front of you and the calls and footsteps are half-blocked by the wind? That would certainly liven up the game, but I was actually rather surprised to find that NOTHING like this was included in the game; on the contrary, most of the environments are completely the opposite, and all very similar, giving the general landscapes a very bland, unoriginal look. Basically, scratch what I said at the top of this paragraph- the graphics AREN'T fine.
AI: So-so. The creatures walk around realistically, going about their business. The herbivores stop occasionally to eat a plant or claw at the ground, and the carnivores sniff the air in search of food. I was quite disappointed in CIA (Carnivores Ice Age) to find that the co-operation between the animals is completely non-existant. They won't call their own species, they won't hunt each other- I once saw a Smilodon go right through a pig without even nipping at it, I felt like saying 'Why is it always me?' when it malled me to death a few seconds later. There's also a glitch in all of the creatures, so I can see right through their mouth when viewing them head on. I suppose that comes under the 'graphics' section actually, but oh well.
Audio: I'm glad to say that generally the audio in Carnivores Ice Age is okay. There are some nice, ambient background noises when hunting, really giving it a good 'Ice Age' kind of effect. The calls are all quite satisfying- most are them are completely invented, and very imaginative- the Brontoteriy call is a brilliant example of this. Oh, now I come to think of it, there is one major downfall to the calls, and I'd like to know whether everyone has this problem- the bonus creature's call and the bear's are EXACTLY THE SAME! I mean, come ON! They could have tried just a tad more effort than that, don't you think? AND the bear's call itself isn't particularly good, it sounds a bit too cute and cuddly to me.
Storline: Terrible. Well, it's okay I suppose. Kind of. What happens is a few years after the discovery of the planet FMM UV-32 (if you don't know what I'm talking about, check out a review of the original carnivores game) the officials of the carnivores hunting business discovered that prehistoric FURRY animals were living and thriving up near the polar caps of the planet. Sounds a bit too FIXED to me. Or maybe that's what it's supposed to be like. Maybe it's supposed to be a mirror image of Earth's past, or it's future, or something creepy like that.
Weapons: The weapons were okay. IN THE LAST GAME THEY WERE IN! Yes, all of the weapons in Canivores Ice Age have came directly from Carnivores 2, so basically Atari made no attempt whatsoever to improve on the weapons. And personally I don't really like the weapons anyway. Most of them are very similar, except the pistol, which is pretty crap when it comes to actual hunting. Some of the weapons, like the DB shogun, are quite good to use but completely unoriginal. Just for the record, there are six weapons in total: Pistol, shotgun, DB shotgun, Crossbow, Rifle and Sniper Rifle. Sounds pretty good, doen't it? It's not.
Overall: 3 stars- despite being a good game to play with a friend with the speakers up full blast, and the odd memorable moment here and there, Carnivores Ice Age just has no long-lasting effect, and its similarity to Carnivores 2 in particular just makes it a very forgettable experience overall.
p.s. Rate this review after reading it, I want to see if I'm writing in the right kind of context here.

I first played this game at a friends house and I loved it. I looked into findingn it and I finally found it at K Mart. I played non stop for about a month after that. The graphics aren't that great but when you are getting stomped to death by a brontitory all that doesn't really seem important. I like this game because you start out with a pistol and them you gradually move up to some cool weapons. This game has so many different ice age animals that it never really gets old.

Excellent game...really gives you a feel for what the ice age may have been like, and a sense of hunting excitement mixed with meditative beauty. I hope they come out with a more advanced version with animals that have a high AI, as well as footprints, wind, variable weather conditionand other options, like hunting with a spear!
Very enjoyable-sometimes scary game.

This game is very fun to play. The animals all look very realistic and in general behave that way, although they occasionally get stuck on terrain. The basic premise of the game is this:
You are a rich hunter of the future. A new planet is discovered which is covered with snow and wind and filled with lots of dangerous animals. You, for a fee, may hunt these prehistoric beasts which are(not surprisingly) identical to earth's pleistocene animals. These animals include the Brontoteriy, a large, relatively passive herbivore (but beware, even though the menu and guide book say it is not dangerous, it will still kill you if you approach it too closely), a Wild Boar which can be dangerous if wounded at moderate to close ranges, a Wolf which I think is one of the most dangerous animals in the game(they blend in very well with the snowy surroundings, are small, lightning fast, take flying leaps at your throat, and very aggressive) Next in line is the wooly rhino, which is dangerous if wounded. After that comes the diatryma, a kind of really huge, really fast and mean bird that will happily kill you if it has even a remote clue that you are in the vacinity. The Giant Deer is next, which, like the Brontoteriy, is not that aggressive but will still attack if you stray too close. Now we get to the Smilodon (Sabre-Toothed Tiger for most of us). He is very aggressive, has supernatural ability to sense you, and gives a hair raising roar when he pounces for you. Verryyy resistant to bullets. Next comes the somewhat ovverated Mammoth and Cave Bear, which aren't all that dangerous compared with the smaller ones who are harder to hit. And finally the bonus animal-which is, suffice it to say-near impossible to kill. It takes about 7 direct blasts with the shotgun to bring it down, all the while it is weaving at 50 times your speed through the snowy terrain.
The islands are very pretty at dawn, and there are several other gameplay options like hunting at day or night, using a tranquilizer for extra points, and several weapons-the pistol, x-bow, shotgun and double barreled shotgun, the rifle, and the sniper rifle. The rifle is the best weapon in my opinion, due to its resonable aim and very fast rate of fire, combined with a good punch. The only problem is that you run out of ammo fast if you keep up sustained fire. The x-bow is also a good weapon. Don't bother with the pistol, it takes forever to kill anything other than small, placid herbivores, and will nearly always get you killed by carnivores through its bad aim and almost nonexistant stopping power. Just as a side note I think that the menu music is very creepy, just sit back and listen..
You can place your icy trophies in your trophy room, where you can walk up to and admire your animals in total 3d- alot better in my opinion than the simple, mounted heads in the deer hunter games. Walking up to the animals in the trophy room, especially things like the bonus, smilodon, the bear, and even the wolf, make you feel very small and feeble.....
Expect to lose a couple lives for hunting herbivores, and numerous lives while hunting carnivores. The death scenes are rendered well, but are admitedly graphic. There is no blood, but when a feeble, quavering corpse is impaled by a smilodon's sabre and beat against the ground, all the while horrid grunts are being made by the beast, it is startling for the first few times. You get used to it, although now and then I still jump when I am slowly creeping along, then a sharp bark pierces the errily still, always snowing atmosphere and you are in the massive jaws of a wolf being tattered to pieces. Or a yeti beats you to a meaningless puddle of blood in his massive hand. It is not for those who can't take dying many times at the hands of furry, although far from cuddly, beasts.
The hunting is realistic, and some animals provide a real challenge. Here is the game's main drawback: Once you kill decent specimens of all the animals- that's it. You can still hunt and all, but the several months of hunting work to find out what the mystery creature is, then to kill it, you have finished the game. It is almost anticlimatic. You simply have a full trophy room where you can gaze up at the eyes of your first bonus creature-listening to the errie arctic wind, and watching the lonely snowflakes melting ever so slowly on the frozen planet....
All in all, a great game if you like hunting big, dangerous, realistic animals in an arctic setting.
Totally prehistoric!

This game is really neat. While its in the same fashion and design of Carnivores 1 & 2, it does have some changes, for the better. For one, you aren't hunting dinosaurs. While I love the previous games, this is a really nice change of pace. you definitely have to be on your toes for this game, especially when you finally get to the mystery monster, and I ain't tell what it is. But you had better be a dead-on, one-shot kinda hunter because that's all you will be, just like with the T-Rex and this monster is a whole lot more fast.Enjoy!!
