I'm Hooked

After having the game for about a week, I had written that I found the graphics awesome but the frustration level was too high...I've changed my tune. I agree with "Char" that it is definitely a consideration for those of us in waiting for Exile. It is not a shoot-em up but a cerebral exercise for those who are up to it. I ordered the Solutions Guide for a couple of the rough spots but don't find I have to refer to it very often. Come on, Fellow Gamers - stretch your mind a bit.

This game has held my attention for how much ever time I've played it till now but not without its problems. The graphics are astounding but not all the puzzles are logical. At times it's so difficult to figure what is your next move when u don't have any given clues as to what is to be done next. Like I got stuck after finishing the first three worlds with not an inkling as to what is to be done with the other three triangular roads sticking on to the circle network in the ship. Of course u have the crystal to work on but to figure out what is to be done with it I'm sure even a person with an IQ of 145 will have to consult a walkthrough.

First of all I had to consult a walkthrough for this game with quite a number of difficult puzzles and once u do that u cannot help but feel a sense of waste of money. The number puzzle in the pyramid in the Maya world was way beyond my understanding. You can easily sail through most of the puzzles in this game, which require only running to and forth from one place to another, as these are the collect objects and place in order or wherever required type of puzzles - too tiring. Though the graphics take care of this problem at times the thought creeps in that one can do with a less amount of such puzzles in the game. Almost all the puzzles in Ireland are in this category. I simply loved the bridge and spider puzzles in the Maya world. They were very entertaining. The hell bit in china did nothing but drag the game further.

Next - once I got through traveling through space in china I couldn't figure out how to get back to the ship. Clicking on to the gong did nothing to the screen and then its not that I didn't try getting back to the ship by clicking on to other objects. To top it this is the second time through the game that I've faced the same problem. Now I'm stuck halfway through the game with an "in -game" problem. Looks like I have no luck with this game.
I very much enjoyed playing Beyond Atlantis II compared to this game. The game was short but the puzzles were quite reasonable with the usual stunning graphics.

3 worlds - 3 stars.

Great graphics - but will make you CRAZY!

This game provides a real experience for a PC gamer - the graphics are terrific, and the whole "mystique" of the theme intices you to try it. But shortly afterwards, the frustration that sets in will make you sorry you did! I am not into PC games as much as some of the other reviewers are, but I am an intelligent person that enjoys a challenge, and a diversion once in awhile. I picked the WRONG game for that! This game required my finding a "cheat site" on the web so I could continue on with it, and I have needed to refer to it throughout my attempts at it. And the "cheat" info was not always enough to get me past an obstacle. There are very few clues for you to know what you're even supposed to be looking for, ridiculous blocks along the way, and slow movements that only add to the frustration level. Find another game!

Beyond Atlantis...many things to see.

Myst/Riven/Crystal Key..etc. feeling. This is one of the best Adventure games I have played. The scenery is beautiful from world to world..even space. The purpose of your character(s) is believable. The concept is brilliant. There are different worlds you enter. As you go to each of them you become someone different. The importance of that is to help you succeed in each world. Many different characters and puzzles to face. The whole game is fantastic. Some of the puzzles I have never played in any other adventure game, which made it more fun. There is a few that you will be pressured for time, so save! Worth the time, money and brainpower. I LOVED this game!!!!

At least it looks good

I agree with the reviewer that said that. This game gives you very little to work with in way of clues. You wander randomly through locations and try to figure out what to do. I don't know, maybe I'm just not as smart as some people are, but the puzzles seem very hard to me. The concept is very intriguing though, and the graphics are beautiful. All together it is not a bad way to waste your time. I liked the mayan place, and how they incorporated in China and Tibet and Ireland. And I love games with good graphics, so this game is very nice to look at.

Help! I think someone gave me the wrong game!!!

The game I loved from all the games I ever had, the first quest I ever played (I got my first PC two-three years ago) and not like all my other games, I didn't cheat. Not even one walky. And I finished it and watched one of the amazing and good ending movies. When I heard that there is going to be another game like Atlantis (not that stupid Pompeii games which is ugly and boring, or Odysee which is fine, but so buggy it almost messed up my PC), I went crazy

So as soon as I could I got something called "Atlantis2", which is excectly like this one, but has really bad graphics, and you can't get the piece of skull from the well. I spent 3 hours looking and looking for it... And don't think I looked how to get the pieces! When I was playing it on another PC I found the skull and turned into a head.

Did I get the wrong game?? Please someone reply me! just write a review and tell me what's wrong!! I love Atlantis!! I want it to work!! Please help me because I am about to cry, but I will not because I am a big boy :(

What a great game! An instant classic.

As a avid Myst-fan, it's sometimes hard to believe there's any game out there that matches the atmosphere en overall storyline. Well, I've been dissapointed plenty of times. Not so however with Atlantis, Beyond Atlantis (or in the EU: Atlantis2). This is a superb game, splendid in music, colours, storyline, acting, graphics, gameplay, well, long and short, all of it. This is an instant classic that you'll never regret having bought or played. It will keep you by\usy for a very long time, and well spend time it is! Strange that Beyond Atlantis 2 The New World (Or, confusingly, Atlantis3 in the EU) is on many aspect the lesser game. The acting and rendering of characters is so much better in Beyond, that it is hard to believe that New World is the sequel, not the prequel. Well, have it from a hardboiled adventuregamer: Beyond Atlantis is a absolute must. Forgive it's very minor shortcomings. Don't even hesitate.

Pretty good fun for the money.

This is, technically an "old game" but all things considered, it's well worth what you'd pay now.

Basically, the game puts you through 3 worlds, plus. Have to say that like a lot of "old games" (I'm compulsive), I've found it both satisfying and madding. I'm a graphics freak and, if they're going to bother with music, I'm a music freak as well. All things considered they do pretty well in both categories. For myself, there were definitely parts I could have done without, plus if you're into endings worth all the brain stress you agreed to be put through by playing this game, it's a let down. If you're into GETTING TRHOUGH and finishing a game, this shouldn't be a problem.

I recently had a hardware/software problem in that I recently upgraded to a 128 mg video card. Game freaked out because of the upgrade. I'm not convinced that the dumb down needs to be down, but I was still able to play it down down done for now.

Anyway, the game makers get HIGH MARKS for inventiveness, and fact game worked (upgrade aside). I have my favorite parts, and game did kind of run out of ideas in the climax, but I'd sure recommend it if you are as desparate as I am for adventure games that satisfy a need for fun and things that work if you "do it right". Do wish that adventure game makers did consider more along this line. I'd sure buy it!

Only reason I haven't given more stars is the uneveness of the "plot" and the pretty hockey ending. Get real guys, and I'll rate what you do next higher.

Still, I'd recommend it highly - all things considered, and what's out there that I haven't bought and reviewed already.

Scenery isn't enough.

At first glance Beyond Atlantis' Myst-like 3d worlds look promising, but it simply isn't enough to make up for the acting, which made me wince, and boring, random puzzles with no underlying logic.

Where do I go from here?

Granted, I am a novice gamer and don't have a great deal of experience, but...the graphics are great and the worlds are intriguing and the frustration level is right up there with them. There seem to be unlimited arenas in which you get caught in a loop with no way of backing out. I am hoping future experiences are more rewarding.
