The best SNES Power Rangers title

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 6 / 6

In 1995, the classic Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers series had reached its all-time high as far as popularity goes. It was so popular that a movie was released! And a game based on the movie was also released that same year. How does the game measure up? Read on for my review of it.

PROS:
-You can choose from any of the six Power Rangers.
-Each Ranger has his or her own strengths/weaknesses/special skills/etc.
-Unlike the original Power Rangers game, you have partial control of when you morph in this game (you need to fill a power meter.)
-There are two different dimensions to battle in - the foreground and the background.
-Two players can play together!

CONS:
-The storyline is HORRIBLY inaccurate to the movie. The game gives the impression that Rita and Zedd joined forces with new villain Ivan Ooze, while in the film Ivan exiled them so that he could do battle with them himself. Also, the Rangers have their TV series weapons, not their movie ones.
-Having to jump between the foreground and background can be a pain, and sometimes it's tough to tell which layer the enemies are on.

OVERALL:
Despite some problems, this is the best Power Rangers game that was ever released on the Super Nintendo. If you can find this game for a low price, I strongly recommend picking it up.

Ehhh....

I guess I differ greatly from the comments I've seen on the ranger games for the SNES. I loved the first MMPR game that was realeased a bit more than the MMPR Movie game. First off I love combo attacks in games. The first had this where as the second only gave you one strike that you did over and over. The enemies were much weaker save for the boss battles which could be a bit challenging at times.

I do like the fact that the Movie game provided a two player option that the first left out and the fact that you can morph once you gained enough lighting and not at a set place. Both games needed much improvement but I felt that this title was a step back from the first outside of the two player co op feature.

It's Morphin Time.

there is only one thing wrong about this game. It has nothing to do with the movie at all. Sure Ivan Ooze is in it but they could've made it more like the movie. But it was still a pretty fun game. There is a sega Genisie version, mabye it'll be more like the film. What i like about this game is you can basically morph anytime, when you have enough thunder points. But it's still a sweet game.

If you liked this game check out all of the other power Rangers games, movies, books, & cds

Great game!! Totally worth it!!

This was a much better improvement, compared to the previous Power Rangers game for Super Nintendo and Power Rangers The Movie on other consoles. I like the first Power Rangers for Super NES, but it was way too easy, graphics were'nt up to par, and not to mention the lack of actual enemies from the TV series (Goldar and King Sphinx were absent and you don't get to face Rita). Power Rangers The Movie sucked on Sega (too easy, less fun, and inacurate to the movie) and Game Boy (too difficult, uncontrollable buttons, and many other limitations). As for my review for the Super NES version of PR the Movie, it was fun. You get to morph whenever you feel like it (if you collect enough thunderbolts), except for when you finally get up to Ivan's henchmen! I still do not favor the fact about the exclusion of Lord Zedd and Rita, Few Recycled Rangers from the previous game...e.g. - Billy's nerdy appearance and clumsiness from the first season and first game remained(after season 1, he no longer looked nerdy) and lack on consistency with the movie (thats why I gave the game 4 stars, instead of 5). Graphics were improved (Ivan's monsters and putties) though and I love the flipping through different platforms of the screen and extras not to mention the two player co-op (unlike the previous game)!! Its difficulty matched the gameplay, unlike other difficult games like Battletoads and some of those crappy NES games with horrible gameplay that was also unfairly difficult. The game stood the test of time and I even got pissed off when I was about to purchase it for $5 at a tape store in 1998, but they only had the box as the actual cartridge was missing! Again, I give it 4 stars and I will plan on actually purchasing this game. Its the best 16 bit beat'em up action game, except for Turtles In Time!!
