Great Game, with an extraordinary storyline. Great for collectors of vintage video games and for gamers who like to play the oldies. Not too short and not too long a great addition to any gamers collection.

The second best Final Fantasy game.

Next to Final Fantasy VI (FFIII) this is the best game in the franchise. Everything is perfect; gameplay, sound/music, graphics, and most of all it's story.

One thing I've notice with these games is that The best stories in Final Fantasy don't completely revolve around a love story, being overly emotional about someting, or a villian responsible for 3/4 of all the slash fanfiction on the internet. I'm looking at you Sephiroth. Buy this game at all costs along with FFVI, and FFXII, and bury FFVII in it's well deserved grave.

like the title it sure "Was" fun when I was younger the game back then was on top of RPG game. Nowadays it's hard to rate FF2 because memories of my childhood just comes into mind and not really the game itself. Overall this game will stay with me but not sure if I could recomend it to the new gens.

Final Fantasy part 2

I've never been able to enjoy the Final Fantasy series as much as most people. The storyline is quite big and the turn based action is decent, but it just leaves me underwhelmed when the game is finally over. In Final Fantasy II, the graphics aren't that great. Even when the game was popular the graphics never looked that great, in my opinion. I don't know, everyone loves Final Fantasy and I guess I have no choice but to recommend it to any fan of RPGs. Just remember that better graphics have come along since the early 90's, and featuring better-looking graphics is the best direction an RPG game can take.

Ok one thing that glared at me as i read these reviews.....this game was released in america before 2003. It was released as an SNES cartridge and was the firstor second (i started FFIII [VI] and FFII [IV] at the same time) back when i was like 8. This game is quite possibly the greatest game to hit SNES, and thats saying a lot seems how SNES had the best games ever, if u dont mind the graphics. This game is pure heaven with an extremely well thought out plot, characters you really get to feel for, except for cid, i never liked him in this, and a high difficulty. At some points i just didnt know what to do and id put the game down for monthes, pick it up later and be like oooooo. I love how the normal creatures from the FF series tie in or originate here (mist monster = leviathan). The game is very difficult overall and compelling from the opening. I recomend it to anyone who owns an SNES (or to get it for PS).
It makes my top three list of FF's

1. FF tactics
2. FF III [VI]
3. FF II [IV]

I love this game to death and I can't wait for it to come out of gameboy advance this December... I'm so anxious. The story gets really complex, and it's hard to keep up sometimes, but that's alright, because it all comes clear at the end. I reccomend this to anyone who likes old RPG's.

This game is hard to describe. I guess PERFECT pretty much sums it up. This was the first Final Fantasy game we ever had. I used to spend hours playing it. In fact it's right here next to me in my SNES system. I'm so glad to have it because my dad was the one who actually got us through the game, because I was just so young I never understood the concept of leveling up. But now I've beaten it twice. The next Final Fantasy I got after this one was FF7, actually, so I wasn't familiar with ANY of the others that came after this one. I don't understand why all you guys on these reviews seem to hate 7, 8, & 9 so much. Just because they're newer doesn't mean they're bad, or anything. I first played FF8 on this demo disc I got from Pizza Hut when I ordered a pizza in about fifth grade, and I loved the demo. The whole game is even better. I love all the Final Fantasy games, that are part of the main series, at least. This game has been a complete inspiration for me when I write my novels. That's right, I write. Eventually I'm going to make RPG's like this one using the stories from my novels. That's how influencial this game and the other FF's have been for me. But here's the deal, folks. This game is coming out on Gameboy Advance on December 12'th this year and probably won't look too different than on this cartrage. I love this game's story. Cecil, a Dark Knight from Baron, and captain of the Red Wings, is forced by the king of Baron to fly out and steal crystals from innocent cities for reasons he doesn't understand. He comes back after a mission in Mysidia and questions the king for his actions and is demoted. He and Kain, his best friend who was raised with him by the king, are sent to the cave of mist to deliver a package to Mist, the town beyond the cave. When they get there, the package opens and burns up the village. Since the two of them killed the dragon in the cave, its master dies also. It's Rydia's mother, and she summons Titan to get rid of Cecil and Kain. But they end up out in the desert and Kain is missing. That's pretty much the beginning of the game right there. There's all kinds of twists and turns throughout it, I've even forgotten much of the story. The only character in the game that I thought was useless (and I do mean USELESS) in battle was Edward the 'spoony bard'. He just lacks any ability to be useful against anything but imps, maybe. Here's my suggestion. Buy this game. It might be found at Game Force, or Comp USA or somewhere like that. But like I said it's coming out on Gameboy really soon, along with Final Fantasy III which for some reason might be on Nintendo DS instead of the same cartriage with FF4 like with I & II. I don't understand that at all, but III and IV are both coming to hand held systems quite soon. I know the new gameboy version of this one'll be the uncensored version, but I'd rather have this one because I've heard Palom says some pretty nasty stuff in the uncensored one. But I'm still gonna get it, though. My SNES won't last too much longer and there's even gonna be new features.

FFII is really FFIV!

I don't know what my friend and brother in Metal and FF would think if I told him the facts behind FFII, which is his all-time fav SNES game: it's really FFIV! Oh, well, what he doesn't know won't hurt him. Anyway, I must say that this game is by far the best FF for ANY Nintendo system and the second best RPG for SNES (next to the amazing Chrono Trigger). Let's explain why!

(Note: all scores are based on the time of the game's release, 1991).

Visuals: 10 (out of 10)
The graphics are very early for SNES, and while so many games didn't look a whole lot better than that of the NES, this one was just as good as Zelda: Link To The Past and Super Mario World. The magic effects and characters are simply designed, but once more, this is 1991 we're in, not 2005.

Sound: 10
Okay, so some of the sound is a little bit irritating, not to mention the occasional recycling of an effect. However, the true triumph in the sound is the music! The boss theme and battle theme have stuck with me ever since I first played it at a friend's house six years ago. There is no denying how awesome some of the other tunes are as well, but the battle tunes are pretty much always the best in FF games, as well as many other RPG titles.

Challenge: 9
Though it's not as hard as FFVII or VIII, it is quite difficult...but the beginning is easier than any FF game, the Mist Dragon may be the easiest boss I have ever fought, and the monsters can all be destroyed in a single hit (Imps have 6 HP!). But after that, it becomes VERY hard.

Innovation: 10
Of course, every FF game has to feature new characters and have nothing or very little to do with the previous. And this is very different from the first (which is probably why FFX-2 is my least favorite), the characters still have classes, but they actually have real names! All the characters prove beneficial, and a few even change! The battle system is fine, but no FF game has a better battle system than that of 10.

Overall: 9.95
So it isn't 100% perfect, but everything in the game is beautiful for the time of it's release. I can recommend every game in the series from I-XI (XII is coming soon) except X-2, and FF Tactics is also excellent.

Final Fantasy 2 was the second FF game to be released in America, but even today it is one of the greatest games I have ever played.

Graphics- 9/10 Back when it first came out, and when I first rented it on the SNES, I remember the graphics looking pretty good for its time. Still, I wasn't blown away, but the battle graphics, and the overworld graphics were amazing. It didn't quite have the charm of Zelda- Link To The Past, but considering the size of this game and its release date, the graphics were very good.

Music- 10/10 Okay, this is where this game shines. Without a doubt, this game has the best music I have ever heard in an RPG. Every SNES FF title had great music (including 5, which was originally only released in Japan, but can be picked up with FF Anthology), and this game started that trend. The battle music is amazing, literally. But it doesn't stop there, the boss music is even better. In fact, I am willing to say that FF2/4 has the best boss music ever out of ANY video game. You will have it stuck in your head for years. In fact, Super Mario RPG for SNES has a hidden boss that has the same music theme as FF2/4. I think FF Mystic Quest was my first FF game, but FF2 was the first one to really get me into the series, and the music sure helped.

Gameplay- 10/10 the battle system is flawless, and the level-up to gain magic system is one of my favorites. I just love battling in order to gain abilities, it just feels so old-school. All in all, all of the gameplay elements are flawless, and the story is great. You also get to go to the moon in this game, which is very fun, and not many RPGs offer something like that. Although this game is also available on FF Chronicles, I would recommend buying the SNES version, even if it has translation issues. I think the SNES version is better because it loads faster (mainly on the saving and loading data screens), it has a more old-school feeling, and just because it's SNES. SNES is the greatest system ever and I think every game originally for the SNES is 10 times better for its original system, even if it costs 20 more dollars, but it is well worth it.

Overall- 10/10 This is a pretty old game (okay, it's very old), but it is one of the greatest games ever made. Overall, FF3/6 is slightly more enjoyable, and is a little better, but FF4 is still in my top three for greatest FF games, and probably in my top ten for greatest games ever. It is well worth the money.
