Prey is an ID software title that's built off the Doom 3 physics engine. It looks a lot more polished than Doom (due in no small part to the 360's hardware), and it looks much brighter than Doom 3 (although that's not saying it's a bright and cheary game by any stretch).
The game follows Tommy, a Cherokee Indian, who is abducted by aliens and must fight his way to save his girl and destroy the evil aliens. That really is, by the way, about as complex as the story gets.
The game play is pretty linear but there are some interesting puzzles. The physics are really weird in this game - sometimes you'll have to walk on walls or ceilings, which makes shooting bad guys uniquely challenging.
But this game is pretty short - maybe eight or ten hours on the story mode. It's also not anything new. It's your standard FPS with weapons that basically behave like weapons you've seen in most other FPS. The online mode is VERY laggy. To get the last couple of hundred achivement points you'll have to play online. As bad as my experience online was, I'm surprised anyone is playing this online.
The game, like Doom 3, also lacks splitscreen play; i.e. you can't have your friends over to play Prey deathmatch. This may sound like a small complaint; but since online play stinks, it's really the only way to play deathmatch besides system link (which would work if you have 2 360's).
Overall, this game is a good renter - I was able to beat it in a weekend with plenty of time to spare. It's game play is a little innovative and the graphics are quite nice. But once you've played the single player story; you've really tapped out the potential for this game.

This game was enjoyable, but a few things kept it from being great. The story was very cheesy at times. The fact that you never really die (at least after the first chapter or so) and are instead given the opportunity to replenish your health then return to the exact same spot where you died made me play carelessly at times - it was tempting to run and gun in every situation, knowing that there were no consequences for doing so (e.g. having to return to a checkpoint.)
The gravity-defying and shifting aspects were fun, and there were moments when the environments and sound effects were genuinely creepy.
Prey is a great FPS for a casual fans of the genre - casual gamers could complete this game and gain some achievement points.

Anything and everything in this game is possible. You are a Cherokee mechanic named Tommy. Your melee weapon is a MONKEY wrench that isn't shy to bathe in blood. Little by little you unlock the mysteries of your people. You can run, walk, spirit walk, death walk, the usual. Fight to get off the Alien ship, save the girl, use alien weapons, portal hop, walk upside-down or up a wall, fly ships, hit gravity switches. To solve the puzzles be open-minded.

This game is absolutely amazing. Especially how well developed it is. The storyline is actually enthralling. Although it is definately not for kids due to the blood, gore, and cursing. The use of the doom engine adds a lot to the game as well. Some of the puzzles are moderately difficult at best, but thats good since its a FPS first. Long story short: GET THIS GAME.
Enthralling FPS fun

What truly makes this game great is the storyline. Yes, there's been plenty of "you are the only one who can save us all from destruction" FPS out there, but Prey does it in a way which raises it to one of the best.
Of course, portals, wall-walking, spirit walking, and amazing graphics don't hurt the experience any.
Much has been said about the death system: you go through a "Spirit World" mini game to replenish your health and are then thrown back into the main game right where you left off. While this is nice, and adds a bit of flavor to the FPS genre, it does take some of the challenge away.
Don't get me wrong, there's always the fight to stay alive, but it becomes more of a "I just don't want to have to worry about playing that damn mini-game again" type of deal. Still, on harder bosses, there isn't as much drama because, hey, they keep knocking you down and you keep getting back up.
A very minor gripe for what is otherwise a fantastic game and a definite recommendation for any and all 360 owners.
Fun!

Dont know where to start. First of all The storyline isnt anything spectacular, or for that matter horrible. The graphics are ok but nothing really stood out. Yet if you are looking for easy achievment points this is a great game.
The one thing this game does have is alot of innovative gameplay. You will find yourself shooting alien weapons (not the usual pistol, shotgun, machine gun). You will also find yourself walking on gravity panels and walking on the roof and sides of room. This makes for more interesting levels but can get a little repetitive. The puzzles in the game are basically just there, to make you think for a few seconds.
The horrible thing about this game is, the online gameplay, as many achievments depend on this, you will most likely find yourself trying to get into a match. It is very hard to find somone actually playing this game online. Its a matter of luck. This is for good reasons, there are two modes, death match and team death match (boring). Nothing really stands out besides what I have mentioned earlier.
All in all I found this game as the average shooter. Much potential but none of it harvested (pun from game). I find the replay value very low, besides maybe to get achievments

Prey has an unusual format, storyline and main character model.
Story graphics run around 9 with the issue of respawn the weakest part of the game action. Respawing is simply pecular and though innovative interrupts the storyline to such a degree as to be annoying.
Great idea, well developed with lots of action. vehicle action (flying vehicle) is really very well done.

This game, for the money, was a lot of fun. With good puzzles and a story line almost all should enjoy. Give it a try.
