EA needs to make the baseball game for the 360

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 1 / 12

I'm a huge baseball game fanatic. I used to have a PS 2 and played all the EA Sport games (i.e.: all the MVP, The Show, etc), and thought they were awesome. I then bought a 360 and eagerly awaited the 2K7 release. I was completely disappointed. This is why

· Frustrated with base running - Trying to make a double or even a triple seems impossible.

· The controls are sloppy - when you try and hit it out of the park sometime the guy will do a dragging bunt. Makes you want to pull your hair out.

· The outfield doesn't do what you tell them.

The graphics are good, but the overall control is awful. I will never buy a 2K game again. If you still want the game after reading this I strongly suggest renting it first.

This Game Sucks So Bad

I am so glad that I rented this game. Because the game is garbage with a $60.00 price tag. 2k sports proves yet again why they are an inferior franchise.

The Good:
Pitching is O.K. sometimes

The Bad:
Controls are garbage.
The game is not realistic
Base Running is impossible
Hitting with the "hit stick" makes me want to throw my controller out of the window after I try to hit a home run and the player bunts.
The Fielding sucks, it's not accurate at all
The game is not fun at all
The graphics suck for a Next Gen Game

MLB should be embarrassed that this is it's only title out there. I think it's about time that we get some competition out there. No-one would buy this game if there was an alternative. Mario Baseball for Gamecube is better than this game.

I am glad I rented it and did not pay $60.00 for it.

Too many homers

I can't get past the fact that when I play this game head to head with my son, he either strikes out or hits a home run. When you hit for power and you connect you are pretty much guaranteed to hit it out of the park. It doesn't seem to matter what the team is, who the batter is, or who the pitcher is, it is way too easy to hit a home run. There is very little fielding in this game because of this. I have even tried adjusting the difficulty settings, but that made no difference. The amount of homers completely ruins this game for me.

Looks like they finally finished MLB 2K6

Upon playing this game for the first time, I wasn't sure if I mistakenly picked up MLB2k6 insteak of 07. The opening screen is well...exactly the same. The choices are all, well, exactly the same. GM mode and franchise mode moved the gamer menu buttons from the left side to the top, but other than that, there's no difference from 2K6. Well, maybe things will change when I get into a game.

Well, pitches come at you a little bit faster. You have to judge whether to swing in about a quarter of a second, even less if you want to put some power on it. Baserunning is still frustrating. Fielding is downright atrocious. The players look more real though, and they definitely move more fluently. It's still raining inside Miller Park, even though the stadium has a retractable roof (which even the announcers point out, making it more assinine as to why there's rain falling inside). Ratings are still biased towards the teams that spend the most money. Rookies that appeared in last years game disappeared in this one. The only addition to GM mode is the ability to look at your average attendance and change ticket prices. Just like a real GM!

Well, they finally finished last year's game. It's still subpar and it still doesn't do anything for me. Goodbye 2k series baseball.

Not for baseball history buffs

My favorite game of all time while growing up was Micro League Baseball, for one simple reason: historical teams. I was able to play fantasy leagues pitting the 1980 Phillies against the '63 Dodgers, with all of their rosters intact... from Sandy Koufax to Steve Carlton, and the lesser known players who I eventually grew to know because of the game.

So I was excited to learn that 2K7 also has a large group of historical teams: the 27 Yanks, 55 Brooklyn Dodgers, 88 Dodgers, 86 Mets, etc. Upon actually trying the game, though, I was sorely disappointed. The so-called 27 Yanks don't have a SINGLE member of the actual 1927 Yanks on their roster. That's right: No Babe Ruth, and no Lou Gehrig. Koufax is nowhere to be found on the 63 Dodgers. Orel Hershiser is AWOL from the 88 Dodgers. What, then, is the point of having these so-called historical teams in the game in the first place? If you find out, please let me know.

I'm glad I rented the game rather than buying it. It's going back to Blockbuster and I will not be purchasing it.

Weak!

I had the game for a week. I hit one base hit and everything else was a strikeout or a home run. Who wants to play a baseball game where every at bat is a strike out then you win with a couple of home runs?? There's little real baseball "play" in this game. Graphics are truly amazing but on the XBox360 the game stutters quite often. I took it back to the store.

I loved EA games. Even the old 989 sports PS1 game was fun. This game. Yes fun, pitching is awesome. now the bad parts
BASERUNNING - Baseburner mode is worthless. I just do the steal command as i get picked off everytime
LACK of PERSONALIZATION - There needs to be a game where you can "create" a stadium from scratch and give it whatever dimensions you want, wall size, etc
DOUBLES OR TRIPLES? i've got guys with 75 speed ratings getting nailed at 2nd on balls to the deep gap. i have 1 triple in 2 months of playing
THROW STRENGTH? i hit the button, it throws to the base, where is the accuracy and power meter? fielding used to be fun on MVP 2005
BASERUNNING AGAIN! controlling your runners in this game is an awful mess. I try to get a guy to go home from second on a clean single, and he goes back to second base, very cumbersome indeed.
DIFFICULTY SETTINGS i have to go custom, as each level is either too easy, or the computer hits ever pitch out of the stadium
ONE MORE JUMPING CATCH AND I'M THROWING IT AGAINST THE WALL: I've been robbed of 472 home runs in the last 2 months.. joking, but you get my point
I could go on, but really what is the point. I've been playing baseball games since 1988. This game for the capabilities of the X-Box 360 is annoying. They need to talk to me to develop a game. Yet i still play this game, as there are no other games on 360. stupid..

Unrealistic

I love baseball very much. It makes me sad, however, that this is the only baseball game available for the Xbox 360. Don't get me wrong, the game is fun and most of its cons are easy to look over except for one: AI defense.

The game infuriates me when it shows that I hit a homerun and an AI outfielder climbs 39 steps up the wall and catches the ball with his back facing it. The defense makes EXTREMELY unrealistic and unfair plays. This takes away from the game and makes me not want to play it.

Another thing is the hitting. The pitches come at you too fast to distinguish if it is a strike or not. It seems more luck than skill. Also, the rosters aren't as up to date as they could be.

Overall, the game is fun but the AI defense is insane.

I am not a big baseball fan; however, I do enjoy playing the video game of baseball. The last baseball game I bought was MVP 2006, which I enjoyed very much. I decided to try out this game for my xbox 360, since EA no longer does MLB. After about a week, here are my thoughts:

Pros
1. Obviously, the graphics are great.
2. the subtleties are good, such as a player dusting himself off after he slides, the crowd standing up when a foul ball comes their way.
3. the commentary is fantastic. there are only a few repeats.

Cons: (I know some of these have been posted before.)
1. while the commentary is good, it lags sometimes, such as, the pitch is already on the way, and the announcer is saying that the pitcher kicks.
2. even without a lot of players on the field, the game will lag a little. My right fielder was chasing after the ball and then it went into slow motion
3. some of the camera views stink. it makes it tough to field the ball at times. the ball is going to right field, but yet, the camera focuses on the base runner.
4. base running is confusing. is it right trigger, right bumper? i do know that right and left trigger control the lead runner, but what if there is more than one man on base?
5. fielding controls are bad. at least give me an arrow to indicate which outfielder i have control of when the ball is going to the outfield. sometimes it does do this, but the majority of the time it does not.
6. the batting (there is the hit stick thing, and the classic just by hitting the a button) hit stick is good in theory, but I find myself doing a lot of check swings. In order to combat this, i hold the right stick between my thumb and forefinger so i don't accidentally try to bunt.
7. is it just me or have the rosters not been updated since april?

I do enjoy playing the game, but it just doesn't have that unable to put down factor to it. I'll be playing it though, at least until ncaa football 08 comes out.

Good, not great

Overall, this is a good game. There are a few things that happen frequently that are pretty annoying. The major one is outfielders climbing the wall and making spectacular catches way too frequently. The other annoying thing is during the pregame the camera always focuses on a blimp or a full moon (is there a full moon every night of the year?). why not show a panorama of the stadium you're playing at. who wants to stare 15 seconds at a blimp?

that's the negative. on to the positive. great graphics, great gameplay, an in-depth franchise mode and not-too-repetitive game-calling by John Miller & Joe Morgan are all pluses. if they'd get rid of those 2 annoying details, this would be a great game.
