This is super great game! Worth the buy. If do not already have this game, get it, it is must have! The graphics are outstanding, the story is one of the best and the game play is super. This game is fun and challengying. The best thing is, that the graphic for the game are so real, that it makes you feel like you're really there. When I stared playing it and I saw the snow blow and crunch beneth the carature's feet, I felt a chill. Five stars is just not enough.
BLAH with a sub-standard story

I have to agree with most of the other reviewers, thankfully I only rented this game. A very high contrast game visually, you go from the blinding white snowscape to the dark hives of the bad things, oh and there are also bad people too. I mean honestly humans are fighting for their existence against huge bugs AND fighting each other at the same time?
The story is complete nonsense, right down to the FAMAS assault rifles you use that are current day issue weapons, good old standby shotgun and the vehicles/mechs are slow and cumbersome to work with as well as the snowmobiles, etc. Also it's understandably slow to run/walk through heavy snow so why not do what Star Wars did with the animal like a horse or why not mount a snow plow on the front of this guy or jet skis, jet snowboard, magnetic-hover-jet-snowboard, something futuristic!!
You can also see the update lines on the screen with the hardware trying to keep up, honestly the last time I saw that was on my PS2 playing God of War, a MUCH better game. Please would somebody have a story that is viable, these people could do space travel to another planet and actually live there, their weapons and vehicles would be more advanced and they wouldn't need this thermal stuff from bugs to get heat and survive.
I don't recommend this game as a purchase unless you rent it and love it.
better than expected, but what's with the boss difficulty?!

lost planet got kind of mixed reviews, so i wasn't expecting too much from it. so i was pleasantly surprised that it's actually a very good game. the graphics are impressive, it has a decent story and the shooting action is good and far tighter than that crappy overrated gears of war.. the only thing i don't care for in the shooting is that it has an arrows system inside the crosshairs.. why noob it up any further or complicate the crosshairs? the weapons are great.. everything was great until i got to the first boss. what the hell is with this difficulty? i must have tried to beat him over 5 times. it's not that i'm not up to a challenge.. i like ninja gaiden.. i played a VERY similar boss in timesplitters: future perfect i had to try repeatedly to beat, and did. but this boss is way too hard to be fun. if you're going to make something hard, at least make it so fun you want to keep trying. that's where lost planet fails in my opinion.
this game works on a kind of unique health system.. you go around and pick up these orbs, and they automatically keep running down so you have to pick up more by killing enemies and collecting them. this gives lost planet it's "run and gun" angle, because you can't just hang around and let your (whatever they're called) run down. the problem is, when bosses hit you, they run down your health stuff and so it ends up just functioning like any other health in any other game. nonetheless, lost planet is easily an above average game if you don't get hung up by that boss like i did. it's not that it's OUTSTANDING or highly innovative.. it's just that most games suck and lost planet doesn't.
Solid 360 Game

I bought this at EB because I heard that it was good and it looked cool. I brought it home and was satisfied. It had awesome graphics, great weapons, easy to use controls, and cool looking enemies. I particularly enjoyed the grappling hook thingy. Xbox Live was fun too. Now you now the good; now onto the bad.
Bad
*If you thought Halo 2 was short and were upset about it then you'll be smashing windows over this. Very short. Only eleven missions. I beat it in two days on normal after only buying the game on the very first day I started playing it. Very mad about this.
*Weak story. After watching the first few cutscenes I just skipped them from then on.
*I really liked playing the story mode for the first third, as it was just as the game was described. After that it was like playing Robotech or Transformers because you were fighting or in giant robots and that was annoying.
Overall
I liked it. Besides its major flaws it is a solid 360 game. Would buy a sequel if it came out.
good if you like starship troopers

Campaign Length-
People can call it short all they want, but the fact is most games these days have short singleplayer campaigns, unless it's an rpg. Especially first person and third person shooter titles. The industry keeps popping out short lived games, and we keep buying. For the record I purchased Lost Planet a few days after release, and i just beat Mission 6 yesterday. It's not because I suck, it's merely bc I don't play the game for hours on end and beat it in one sitting like many people do. For people like myself who log an hour or two a night, sometimes only a 4/7 nights of the week, the game will last quite a bit. It's really only short for those people who sat down for 10 hours and beat it in one day. If you have that much time to play in a day, you should really get into MMO's that your type of game tongue
Graphics -
It's far from the best, however, anyone who claims the game looks "bad" is a moron. It's definitely one of the better looking titles out, not to mention keeps much steadier framerates than some other titles. The multiplayer character designs could have used some work, aside from that it's a pretty solid game visually/graphically.
Story -
As I said, I'm only on the 6th mission, but the story has a good plot to it, however, obvious, stupid, and carless flaws and loopholes, that could have been easily fixed.
One example: Mission 4 End - Mission 5 Start- Wayne mysteriously warps back to the trailer for a cut scene and then after the scene is over he is mysteriously warped right back where he was before the cut scene.
Just little details in the story like above that just don't add up. And there are quite a few of them.
Multiplayer -
FUN! Kinda buggy at times, but hopefully those will be worked out in time. I could do without the Fugitive game mode, and something slightly more entertaining. Leveling up and unlockable costumes characters make the multiplayer kinda addictive. Hoping to hit 20 for a new costume design soon happy
Anyway, i'd prolly give it a 8.5/10. I haven't touched GEARS since this game came out. GEARS MP is just dull compared to LP's IMHO. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing GEARS, I just prefer the large scale battles in LP to the 4v4 tactical squad battles in GEARS.
Extremely FUN! While it last

This game reminds me of a cheesey sci-fi flick that I'd love watching at a drive-in theater but I actually get to play it on my 360! It has everything from giant scorpions to a giant spider and what better way to kill these threats than in my groovy mech walker thingy!
I have had a total blast playing this game, really I can't understand the previous reviewers not having FUN with this game... My only gripe is its over so fast. I beat the game in 7 hours which I feel so totally unfair considering its $58
I would've preferred some open-endedness, a few maps with akrid, snow pirates and nevac skirmishing would've been so kewl for those of us that like single play more...
Single Player - Multi-Player...Both Suck...

I played the mulitplayer download of this game and was not impressed with anything it had to offer. I then tried the full version of the game in an attempt to try to find out if it had any hidden glory. I wasted my time. This game offers nothing unique and the graphics are not worth raving about. Enemies are too easy to kill and the "light up" weak spots are childish and lame. With so much potiential, this game was a huge disappointment.
I've lost my husband and my son to this...

The most qualified people in my house to write a review on this would be my husband and my son but since I can't seem to get either one of them away from this game you'll have to settle for me repeating what I hear.
This game is awesome!
I can't believe how well thought out this game is!
Look out Halo!
How did we not have this before?
And it goes on and one but honestly I tune them out. So I would have to recommend, based on what I hear, this game to everyone. I personally do appreciate the fact that my husband and son can play a game together that is not M rated.
BORING

I usually live for games like this ... but this game ... B-O-R-I-N-G. It is the same thing over and over again. It really has no redeming values. After the first 5 min ... it just goes downhill. The weapons suck, the enemies are always the same ... it really was no fun and a waste of money. I am going back to playing Gears of War for the 1,000th time ... and enjoy it.
Kind of wish it had stayed Lost...

I rented this game (a good thing too) since I didn't have the cash to buy it, but trust me, I wanted to buy it bad. I have to say the fun factor wears thin rather fast. The only reason I wanted to play it all the way through was for the story, but as I got more and more into it, the story just doesn't make any sense at all...The Akrid (monsters) can't live on the planet if it's heated, making it better for all man kind due to the monsters being gone and it will not be a frozen waste land anymore...But when I venture into the Planet I find the creatures are in greater numbers, bigger, and meaner around the heat of lava? Or am I to believe that this strange, alien planet has ice cold lava? And then there's just all the other crazy stuff that you get in these crazy games that will drive you nuts...
And that stuff wouldn't matter much if it were fun...but it isn't. There were a few levels where I was being attacked by both that big monsters and the people, and I couldn't fight back due to the design of having your character fumble around for 3 minutes when he gets hit. So basically I had to drudge my way out of that area each time he would stand up for a few seconds before being knocked down.
And with a story that falls apart, characters that you hate, the games repetiveness just gets to you. The robot suits don't even make it worthwhile at a certain point. And multiplayer, I'd rather not... I'll stick to Gears of War when I want to gun my Xbox Live buddies down.
So Rent it? Sure, but don't believe the hype. But you won't need it in your collection for a rainy day when you have nothing better to do.
