Everyone compares this game to CC3, to me they aren't in the same ballpark. Being a huge fan I was completely sucked into the story and really felt like a part of something. I had the feeling that if I lost the battles, Middle Earth would fall to the Dark Lord Sauron. In CC3, I never really got into the odd story. It does a much better job with the different units and other features. Although, I do believe that CC3 is way more polished, has better graphics, and is overall more refined than LOTR BFME 2. Overall, I fell that if you really want a techniqually sound game, then CC3 is probably for you. If you want to be drawn into a story and feel bound to the characters as if you were a part of them, then LOTR BFME 2, is probably for you.

Graphics 6.5 ( Middle of the road, nothing extraordinary)
Sound 7.0
Story 8.5 ( Good side plot to the movies).
Overall 8.5

Sweet RTS for a console

Console RTS's have been pretty bad as a general rule. This one really changed that with a sweet control scheme. If you like RTS games and The Lord of the Rings then pick this up. It may not be as revolutionary as the upcoming Endwar....but it's a good time.

disapointing

This is a great RTS... on the PC.
Unfortunately after playing 3 different Xbox360 copies on 2 different consoles, I have come to the conclusion that it will never work properly on Xbox 360. Please do yourself a favor and don't buy the game for 360.
The PC version is a well done, fast paced, entertaining game, it is just to o buggy to even play on a 360.

I bought this item as a gift for my grandson. He once had this video but it burned out. He was very excited about getting this one. Sounds like he rated this 5 stars. Me too, because of his happiness.

My kids love it

We bought this game for my boys - 5 and 10 - for Christmas. We already have the PC version, but that doesnt stop them from playing it constantly. It uses the soundtrack from the movie, which makes it decent listening to as their game system is in the same room where my PC is. Most games I have them turning off the sound very promptly.

My husband says the PC version has better control than the Xbox version, but the boys dont mind.

Worth the investment.

Hey i've had this game for about a month now, and i play it regularly, and its just crazy fun, because you can go online, or set up a skirmish game with the computer, or play the campaign, which has 2 parts a good and evil. once u start playing this game u will not want to put it down. some people say that these kinds of games(RTS) are only ment for computer, but the layout and the feel of this game is amazing, and u just get hooked. if u are looking for a fun game to play this is for u!

good but lacking

overall it wasnt bad but it wasnt that great either. The freeform kinda mode is pretty boring and way to easy but the game is saved by the story portion of it. there are definatly better strategy games out there especialy on pc.

BFME vs C&C

This game is a little less refined than C&C but it has more options to build the races and there are special characters that add a whole new dimension that C&C doesn't have. At first I didn't like the game and let it sit for about 6 months. But then I started gettting into it and played a few online games which really got me going. Be advised though that you have to go through a lot of single player missions perfectly before you have a chance at going online against people that have won the single player game already and recieved bonus heros. C&C is more refined, much more like the old Starcraft. I'd rate them even.

Good For Beginners

I am trying to understand the criticisms given by some of the reviewers as I am not historically an RTS player. I have played a demo of Starcraft on my Mac years ago, but that is about it. I generally prefer FPS's and RPG's. However, branching out is good for all gamers to do occasionally, so I decided to buy this game along with Command & Conquer 3. They both looked really cool, and I'm a big LOTR fan. I just started playing this game last night and was a little intimidated by the controls. Trying to figure out how to make more troops, barracks, and towers took a few minutes, but I eventually got the hang of it. Same thing for maneuvering the troops. As I got going and learned a few things I found the game to be entertaining and fun. I've only made it through the first 2 battles, but the taste I got was really good. If you are new to RTS's then I think this would be a good place to start. I don't have a PC, so I'm not sure if using a mouse and keyboard would be better for controlling an RTS. What I do know is that this game is fun, has good graphics, and is entertaining. The only real gripes I have is that some of the cut scenes don't look much better than something you'd see on an original Xbox, and some of the voice overs are annoying and repetitive. Otherwise, buy it used and go for it.

Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth II

This game plays out like Civilization 3. You control groups of peasants, troops, hero's, and other beasts as you build, destroy, plunder, and conquer your way across various maps. It's all top-down view and some of the controls feel... awkward with the 360 controller. I'm not saying that any other console controller would feel better, but I think this game should have been left for play on the PC with the use of the Mouse and Keyboard.

I was hoping this game would play out more like the older LOTR games for (original)Xbox. That 3rd person view made for lots of fun as you commanded your character through harrowing tasks. I was really looking forward to bringing that style of play to life with the great graphics of the 360. Not so... Boo urns...
