SO REAL IT HURTS

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 12 / 13
Date: November 11, 2001
Author: Amazon User

The boxing genre has recorded a handful of hits ranging from the age old classic Mike Tysons Punch Out!! to the current heavyweight champion Knockout Kings. If not for Empire Interactive's keen importing eye, what is being heralded as "the most accurate boxing game ever conceived" may not have made the journey to American soil.
Even though it is drawn in a goofy anime style, Victorious Boxers' gameplay is as realistic as it gets. You wont find special moves, a health meter, or any video game fixations in this title. The design reflects the highest degree of realism. If you throw to many punches, you will feel your character tire. If you let your guard down and take to many hits to the head, your character will stagger, and struggle in his delivery. Through precise analog movement, you'll dance, bob, and duck like never before.
All of the punches, including slip jabs and uppercuts, are inplace with a unique delivery system. Depth is also represented with an interesting story mode, and over 40 characters from four different weight divisions.I had the lowest of expectations for Victorious Boxers, but once I got my hands on it I couldn't put it down. I think you will agree this is exactly what the boxing genre needs.

This is real boxing!!!!!

Hi, I love this game. The most realistic boxing game out there. Your boxer is able to bob and weave, block, duck, slide sideways, jump back and lunge forward. This game is not a button smasher. You must use boxing strategy. Has over 40 fighters. Each with different styles. Keeps records of your boxer. It has a replay save also to watch your best fights. Good graphics. Good controls. This game kills KOK 2002, Mike Tyson boxing, Ready to Rumble, and I'm sure the new Rocky boxing game can't compete with this game either. This game is for TRUE BOXING FANS!!!!!!!

The best boxing game since Punch Out

Punch Out has always been the king of the Boxing game. It is true we have had Ready to Rumble, George Foreman KO Boxing, HBO Boxing, and more. But none of them ever had the heart or pure joy and difficulty that Punch Out had, until now.
Victoriouse Boxers is based off an Anime or Manga of the same, or similar title. YOu start off as Ippo, a young feather weight trying to discover himself in the world of Boxing. LAter you play as some of the other guys in the same gym and so on. You face many, many boxers, from muscle bound brutes, to speed demons. At first you can rely on just beating into submission but later you need to build skill, I am not kidding when you get to later matches and get beaten within seconds because you don't know how to dodge right.
COntrols are very fluid and easy to master, one little recomendation though, set the left analoge stick to Expert (For full movement) and the L1 button to sway (So basically you hold L1 and use the Analouge to dodge).
The graphics are amazing, and the arenas are very well done to.
The sad thing is though is that this will go overlooked because it has very little advertisment, and even worse came out around the same time as Grand Theft Auto 3, and or FInal Fantasy X.
THis game is highly recomended, and like I said, this is the most fun Boxing game since Punch Out.

Better Than KO Kings 2001

(...)This game is probably the best boxing game out right now for the playstation 2 and far surpasses Knockout Kings 2001 which was a huge disappointment. The graphics of the charachters are very well done and the realism of the game is well done as well. When you stagger your opponet he stumbles across the ring and when you knock him down he crumbles to the canvas. The trainer in your corner gives you advice throughout the fight and the more fights you win the more secret features you can unlock. Very realistic, very enjoyable, a worthwhile purchase.

When I looked at the cover, I knew that this game was good. Indeed, this game delivered a realistic graphics, great player control, and many more.

Here's my comments on VB
Pros: Great graphics, manueverable players, every characters has their unique boxing style.
Cons: Lack of combos, hard bosses

I highly recommend this game to everyone. I'm sure you don't want to miss this one.

The Greatest Boxing Game ever!!!!!

From the first time I saw this game in the local movie store, I knew it would be fun. Victorious Boxers has it all. An abundance of boxers, unique gameplay and control, realism, and a good replay value. The fighters are based on a Japanimation cartoon called Hajime No Ippo, so don't expect Tyson or Lewis in here. But every fighter has its own style, so you will learn various styles. The one thing that isn't so good is the voice acting in Story Mode. Every round, it's the same thing. But anyway, this is the greatest boxing game around...

Reward Excellence - Buy this game and not KO Kings 2002!

Let me start off by saying that you cannot get a few appreciation of this game from playing it a day or so..you need to literally play hours to fully grasp all the nuances. Forget the story, it is ridiculous, and just concentrate on the actual boxing. The game utilizes the analog stick in a way EA Sports with KO Kings 2002 could only wish to. Your defense in this game depends totally on timing, knwing when to duck and when to sway. One weakness is lack of blocking, but overall that does not take away much. Still it should be added to the next version since no boxing game is complete without it.

This is very much a thinking man or woman's game..each opponent has a different style which causes you to utilize your brain in order to figure out strategy...For instance, one boxer is very tall and rangy..he keeps flicking out the jab and if you go in swinging he counters very effectively. In order to have a chance, you have to figure out how to draw him in and then counter yourself.

As for KO Kings 2002, that game is nothing more then a glorified ready to Rumble. It is simply button mashing and a discrace after previous efforts. In KO Kings once can land well over 100 punches every round while in Victorious boxers you are lucky to land 20..that is how real boxing is.

So buy Victorious Boxers and ignore KO Kings..it is the only way EA will get the message that they cannot peddle [junk].

Not Since Mike Tyson's Punchout...

Has a boxing game been this much fun. Previous attempts by EA to put a realistic boxing game on the market have failed miserably, but thankfully the makers of Victorious Boxers have come through. This game requires skill, a sense of timing, and strategy, something uncommon in other games. Button tapping will get you nowwhere as I found out. The graphics are unbelieveable, (think Hot shots golf meets Final Fantasy 10), the sound track fits the game play and really compliments it. Even watching someone else fight is enjoyable. If you are a boxing fan, a sports fan, or even just like good video games, I would recommend putting victorious boxers at the top of your list

The most realism to a boxing game

The best boxing game so far. Delivers everything so much better than knockout kings. After practicing with the analog stick, you get the hang of the control after about five fights. The game is hard to master but fun to play. I still like the Knockout Kings series, but this game is everything that the Ps2 version of Knockout Kings 2001 should have been znd what knockout kings 2002 tried to be. If you are impatient and unwilling to learn you probably won't like this game.

Victorious Boxers 2: Fighting Spirit

If anyone is wondering there's a new Victorious boxing game that came out on the 16th of Nov. 2006 and it's called "Victorious Boxers 2: Fighting Spirit".

I tried typing in Victorious Boxers 2 by itself in the Amazon search box and it came up with nothing but then I typed in the full title name and it showed up.

You can get it for like ten bucks so check it out.
