Ive played through COD3 on normal and hard, and i must say..its a fun game, but it would be alot more fun if it didnt skip so much..im gonna have to PRO/CON this review
PRO's
-you cant lie, the game is fun(when working properly). You get hooked on it and you dont want to stop playing
-the idea of having the enemy get right in your face and you got to get him off was pretty cool
-my personal favorite, you are able to catch and throw back any grenades thrown at you (except smoke). I thought that was a great add in.
CON's
-another WWII game. The story has been heard many of times in these games..so why must we be forced to watch several minute long cut scenes..EVERYTIME WE START A NEW SCENE/LEVEL?! very frustrating, you cant skip them.
-the game is VERY glitchy. You get stuck in ditches, stuck on objects, you will find yourself going back and forth trying to just walk threw a open door. if your being shot at alot, you wont be able to move sometimes, and, not being your fault, you will die because of it.
-AI is not that good. Your team usually end up just shooting at a wall while a fleet of Nazi's charge towards you. Your team also gets in your way alot. i had to restart my checkpoint one time because they would literally circle around me and did not let me move. Thank God this is not how our real army acts
Overall..i guess it could be worth a rent, but deffintly not worth $60. Call of Duty 4 is due this year though. And this time..no more WWII!!! it will be based on the war going on today.(i even heard that a new cool effect is that you can shoot of the enemies ear, pretty nifty huh?) so keep playing COD2 online, and lets wait and see how COD4 ends up.
Great Addition to the COD Library

In my opinion you could keep a series like this going forever just by providing new maps to hide and seek in. However, what makes this game even better is the fact that they have improved the gameplay too. The fighting and moving controls are fine tuned and the grenade throwing makes a little bit more sense. It also seems to me that the whole game flows better in multiplayer mode. I think in this version they focused more on the multiplayer rather than COD2 focusing on the single player instead then adding a basic multipayer and working the kinks out later with patches. However, it seems the single player did suffer a little by having rather a quickly beaten storyline. Great game for the multi not so good for the single. However, like I said all the really had to do for my approval is change the name and the maps and I would have been happy!!!

This is a solid game. It has good graphics, smooth framerates, and is fun to play. However, I don't see much if any improvement over COD 2 in single player mode. If you have not yet played COD 2 and are only interested in single player mode, I recommend getting it since it is cheaper and just as much fun. If you have already played COD 2 you may want to skip this one and instead get Gears of War, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, or Rainbow Six Vegas for something new.

This game is phenomenal. It truly looks "next generation", and I have a standard definition television. Even better than the surprising visuals is the sound. The sound is fantastic, from dramatic music, thundering explosions, and shouts from your comrades, it all adds to the experience. The quality and quantity of sounds is amazing. The one player mode deviates only slightly from COD2. However, it is an improvement, so if you liked COD2 then you'll like COD3. For those who haven't played COD2, then you are in for a treat.
The online play is fantastic. I used a two-day trial to play it online. I have since signed up for Xbox Live. I'm usually not an online player, but this game's online play is addicting. It is worth the price of the game and the sign up cost for a "Gold Membership". The maps are well laid out providing many places for hiding, team play, and strategic attacks. Vehicles are available in the multiplayer mode, but don't dominate play. There is a good balance in power between the classes or kits. I've only noticed a few glitches but that was during a large game with a limit of 100 points. Other than that the online play works fantastically.
So get geared up and I'll be looking for you soldier!
Since I originally wrote the review, I have purchased a high definition TV. Wow, the gameplay looks much better than before, and it looked good. This is one of the best looking games on the Xbox 360. My one gripe about the game is the "mini-games" inside of the one player campaign. For instance you will need to tap the L & R triggers as fast as you can to get Germans off of you or later in the game you'll have to rotate the analog stick to paddle. I find those mini-games a distraction and really pointless. I wish they weren't there.
COD 2 was much better

I sold COD 2 and purchased this and wish I hadn't. This game seems more hurried together and lacks the cohesiveness in the story that COD 2 had. There are also more points where you seem to get stuck, i.e., the computer won't let you around a house so you have to reboot and then the next time it does.
Not a horrible game but if you're going to spend the money COD 2 is far better...and cheaper.
Get Call of Duty 2 Instead

This mainly deals with online but is also applicable to single player.
In COD 2 you could tell when you're shooting someone cause you'd see blood and then they'd fall over and clutch at their neck while they're dieing. In 3 you have no way of knowing you're hitting them. And when they die they just lay down and then start blinking and disappear. You can't even pick up their weapons immediately. In 2 I hated how the flag would stick out through walls. In 3 players weapons and limbs can stick out through walls. That is rediculously lazy on the game designers part.
That's just a sample of the sloppiness with which this game was put togther. COD 2 was moving towards realism. 3 reverted to old cheap arcade tricks. The only good thing about it is it's bigger. But it's also cheap and sloppy. The gameplay is nowhere near COD 2. Not well thought out at all.
big letdown

I love Call of Duty 2 and was excited to get this one. But it is not even comparable to 2. The scenes are dark, it's difficult to aim, and it's hard to find other players in deathmatch.

First of all, I am a big World War II fan. I love playing all the World War II games that are made for the PC. I decided last week I had to get a Xbox 360 just to play Call of Duty 3 and Gears of War. So I went to a local Gamestop and bought the Xbox 360 along with Call of Duty 3. Gamestop didn't have Gears of War in yet. I ended up getting Gears of War at Circuit City.
Okay so I went home and I set up the Xbox 360 on my tv set and I put in Call of Duty 3 to play and I noticed the picture wasn't that good. So I disconnected the Xbox 360 and I hooked it up to my PC flat screen monitor. Boy, let me tell you something. There was a huge difference in the quality of the picture. I couldn't believe it. And the sound was 100 times better. What is so cool is I can turn on my PC and my Xbox 360 at the same time and switch back and forth playing games from my PC and games from my Xbox 360 on the same PC flat screen monitor. This is the best investment I ever made.
Now my review just has to do with Single Player only. Call of Duty 3 looks even better than Call of Duty 2 on the PC flat screen monitor. Call of Duty 3 is a great game that should have been made for the PC too. The battles are very intense and very realistic. The AI is very good. Both Allies and German troops advance and retreat when they need to. They both use cover very well. It is so cool to fight in huge battles and have large number of troops from both sides fighting against each other. It is especially cool when you have artillery shells exploding all around you while you are right in the middle of fighting a large battle. The graphics are very good. Call of Duty 3 has some the best looking grass and best looking water I've ever seen in a game. I really like the storyline in the game. This game is based on actual battles fought in France during the summer of 1944. I can't wait for Call of Duty 4 to come out next year. I hope it is based on some more World War II campaigns.
Best game I have ever played!

Call of Duty 3 is hands down the best game I have ever played to date. Anyone who gives this game less than 5 is crazy. The single person game is great, but the online play is out of this world! Ranked matches, snipers on the loose, blowing up jeeps/motorcycles. It just doesn't get any better than this. The only thing I wish you could do is have both allie and axis weapons available when you play online. Allies have the better weapons, which give them a little unfair advantage. Otherwise, this game is perfect, a must buy!
A wasted Effort

It was a mistake for Activision to take the Call of Duty line away from its creators for the third installment. All the big hallmarks of the Call of Duty franchise seem to be here, linear story and cut scenes. But it doesn't seem to have the care and the excitement of the first two CoDs. And the third installment adds nothing to the game. For all intents it is just a poorly done expansion of the second game with no real improvements of polishing. It also seems that half of the game your character is being controlled by the computer or in a state of advanced shell shock. This seems to be a very heavy handed way of insuring the player appreciates all the scripted events throughout the game.
As just another FPS WW2 shooter it might be an alright game. But since it carries the Call of Duty name people should, and do, expect it to be better than average. It is unfortunate that CoD3 isn't. I would recommend this game as a weekend rental maybe but this title left me very disappointed. It is good to see Call of Duty 4 returned to Infinity Ward.
