This game is tough!!!! Its fun BUT it is one of those games where the learning curve is so steep that you will want to throw your DS out the window! Graphics are good and the concept of slicing someone open using the touch screen is excellent. SOme of the controls are fiddly especially trying to do magnification. But this game is really tough and not for those with out any patience (like me!!!)

If you like Operation as a kid this will be good for you in DS form however its a little too tough to recomemend to anyone other than doctors!!!!!

best ds game

This is seriously the best game that uses the DS functionality. Mario Kart is perhaps a better game, but not a touch screen game. This game actually feels like a natural evolution of the touch screen.
The game seems simple at first. You are a young doctor with some super powered medical skills, like slowing down time. In the beginning every time one of 10 medical instrument is used your assistant pops on to tell you what to do. However she soon leaves you and you have to figure out what to do for yourself. What at first was simple becomes quite complex when patients with multiple kinds of injuries start rolling in.
I do not anticipate that I will be able to finish the game (it gets that hard), but it will not stop me from trying.
If you have a DS you need to get this game. This is one of the essential games for the DS

Hard, but fun.

Trauma Center: Under The Stylus

I really like Atlus' approach to the DS, as gamers will find that Atlus really tries to be different in its production of games.

Trauma Center is another one of the original DS title releases that hit the touch screen world in the same fashion as Phoenix Wright. They were released a week within each other back in October of 2005, and was my second buy for the DS after Phoenix Wright. Personally, I find the game to be much more intriguing and much more fun than Phoenix Wright, although it's a close call.

The one complaint that is most commonly seen with Trauma Center is the degree of difficulty in gameplay.

This is a legitimate, well, I won't go as far as to call it a complaint, as games should be difficult in order to have any sort of lasting appeal. The problem I see with Trauma Center is not the level of difficulty, but the how the game goes from being incredibly easy to incredibly hard in a matter of one game chapter.

Once you get going in the game, you feel like you're cruising and the game is actually really fun. Then all of a sudden, you hit this level that is impossible to beat. You try and try, and you keep messing up. So off to the computer you go, to see if there's any strategy involved in beating the level. And man, it's still really freakin hard.

But that seems to be the only downside to the game. The story is in fact, a little cheesy, but give Atlus credit; how easy is it to create a storyline around a bunch of doctors in a hospital, all packed into a tiny DS game? You'll have to forgive them for that. Plus, performing surgery isn't exactly a linear process, unless you're performing post-op surgery on the same patient over and over again that keeps developing recurring problems (you'll even see a bit of that in the game).

In the end, Trauma Center is just as innovative and unique as the Phoenix Wright experience. A medical game? That's fun? Yeah, I think we should start getting used to the unusual genres being introduced to the DS. Don't be surprised if there's a sequel in the works either; a version of Trauma Center was released for the Wii, and I wouldn't be shocked if there was another coming on the DS, although I'm not sure if it's been announced yet. At $29.99, it's one of the few DS games that's actually worth the price tag. Trauma Center saw its re-release several months ago, and hasn't strayed from its retail price, although you can probably find it used for cheaper. Must have for collectors, must have for the general DS user.

A fun, quick game for the DS!

I bought this game a couple of months ago in hopes of adding a game to my collection that will not only help me pass some time, but also provide some puzzle-like entertainment.

So what's this game about? You play as a surgeon who is relatively new to the surgeon world. You must operate on patients using your stylus. You have different tasks to do that you must complete correctly and quickly or else the patient's vitals will drop and you fail the mission.

What's to like about this game? First of all, it has a decent storyline and before every surgery you hear about what's going on at the hospital and you get a description of every patient and what's wrong with them. This is a good way to break up the missions part of the game. Second, you'll find yourself playing for a good amount of time, trying to complete certain missions. This is helpful to me as I needed a way to pass some time during long airplane rides. Third, you eventually learn what you must do for every mission and you'll eventually be able to complete them without the nurse's help.

What's not to like? First, the graphics aren't all that pleasing to the eye. They're not awful but they certainly could be better. Second, for me to play, I must be sitting in a certain position in order to complete the missions quickly. For some missions, there's just so much to do and not enough time to do it and if you're not concentrating 100% on the game, you'll fail. Third, it's HARD. I think I've managed to complete only 6 or 7 surgeries. I eventually become frustrated and don't play for a long period of time, placing this game in my "I'll only play when I'm bored" pile.

Bottom line: If you're looking for a great surgery-type game to play, this isn't perfect but it'll do the trick. The price tag is a little high in my opinion for a game that needs some improvement but if you have the cash to spend, this is a great little game to own.

Doctors Can't Save Everyone

I would probably love this game if I could advance any farther in it. I know it's a game, but honestly, sometimes people die. If a person suddenly has a million and one aneurisms at the surgical site, they most likely would have a million and one aneurisms other places in their body. I would prefer to have an occasional mundane surgery so that I won't get fired if one patient dies. If you aren't an experienced, hard-core gamer, don't buy the game. It's impossible for any human (or, any human I've met) to complete.

Very novel idea!

One of the more interesting video game ideas that I've seen in a long time. The Japanimation style is very cool and the gameplay is very engrossing. Using the stylus pen to perform medical procedures is shockingly addictive and frequently very challenging.

great game, or should i say a really great game

This game is sooo cool. I always wanted to save peoples lives. And i could do it with this game! You use your scalpel and 9 other tools but u use the stylus like 99.9 percent of the time! This game teaches u responsibility and that playing doctor is not a joke unless u r actually not saving peoples lives in this game. This game is a really greatttt.

Loved it, just extremely hard at times.

Yeah this game is really fun, just gets extremely hard at times towards the end. Have a little over 10 hours into it, kind of short I guess, but each mission might take you a few tries to complete. Plus the fact you might spend 30 tries on some like I did. I'd say it's easily one of the best games out for the DS though. One that everyone should have in their DS collection.

This is one of my favorite DS games which lets you play doctor without having to go to medical school. If you are talking about this game to someone, it can make you look smart: "one of the patients was hard to treat, I had to disinfect the area, then place a perfect incision, remove the malignant tumor, and surture the wound." Highly recommended for anyone with a DS.
