NURSE!!! I NEED MORE ANTIBIOTICS!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 6 / 6

I see that some complained that the game is frustrating and gave bad ratings just for that reason.

I can understand it, the game is hard.

But my view of the game is a little bit different. I believe if it was any easier, it wouldn't have the same level of intensity and a sense of urgency that this game emulates while you're playing.

The game is fun, trust me. If you could withstand disecting a rat in biology class you'll be fine :)

Every mission in the game starts by dialogues explaining the situation. Be aware that it contains a lot of technical medical terms. Half the time I donno what the hell they're talking about but there's a good guideline to follow so I don't get lost that easily.

Dialogues take a good deal of time, but without them you'll be confused so deal with it! They're not half bad anyways. I've seen a lot of cheesier dialogues in video games, especially for handheld platforms, because many of them are made in Japan and translation to English was done poorly. However this is not the case with this game. I actually enjoy reading the dialogues in this game because they address you as a doctor and it's entertaining.

Those who complained about not being able to skip, I agree with ya on that. While it should stay mandatory for the players to go through dialogues the first time, skipping option should have been provided for 2nd time trying and afterword.

But like I said, goods outweigh bads BY FARRRRRRR so you should learn to deal with the bads. It is very seldom that you find a game that you think is perfect, and most people will not think this game is perfect. Yet it is devilishly entertaining and is definitely worth the money!! If you own a NDS, this is a must buy! (Not for people who faint when disecting a rat :P Not that I'm implying human body = rat *wink wink*)

Trauma Center DS, will cause you to go to the ER.

This game is mindnumbingly hard not because its a very challenging but rather its set up to fail. Most missions thrust you into a situation with little indication of what to do. As the patients vital signs drops, you frantically poke at your DS trying to think on what to do. The nurse, who assists you, gives you vague ideas on how and before you know it you've failed the mission. It would take me an average of 10-15 failures before I finally won a mission. The last mission I played that made me quit, resulted in 30+ failures. And that's only being 1 hour and half into the game.

The graphics are crisp and clear. The storyline didn't make much of an impression on me. But I was probably too frustrated to pay attention to that. This game had a lot of potiental but killed it by constantly making you fail. Do not buy this game unless you have an extreme amount of patients, game collector who will keep it sealed, or you're a gultton for punishment. Whatever you do, do not buy this game for the hype. It does not live up to it.

A superbly crafted game

Up until now, the DS games I had enjoyed had two things in common. First, they were all based on established franchises. Second, they might have been considered by some as "kiddie". Trauma Center: Under the Knife breaks those traditions. It's a bold step in the right direction for Atlus, the DS, and games in general.

Understandably, some people might be turned off by the concept, thinking that it's a boring medical simulator. This is not so. Although you will operate on some "real-life" diseases, and the methods you use are grounded in reality, you'll spend most of the game fighting against a fictional, futuristic infection that takes many forms. The game designers obviously had a lot of fun with this; each operation is essentially a "level", and you'll find yourself doing all kinds of things, especially with all the different tools available. Although you will repeat a few surgeries, no two stages feel exactly alike; you definitely won't get bored.

The basic gameplay is extremely tight and unforgiving. You need a steady hand, quick reflexes, and a lightning-fast brain to get through some of the harder operations, but it never feels unfair. Your success is based entirely on your skill, experience, and understanding of what needs to be done. Yet at the same time, it's just flat-out fun; the DS' unique abilities are used in so many different ways, and the sense of accomplishment is incredible.

To keep you engrossed, the game also has a rather involved, gripping story with many interesting and fleshed-out characters. Even though it's told solely through text-based dialogue and static scenes, I actually found myself getting emotionally involved. For those who don't like the story, though, you have the option to skip right through the story segments to the gameplay.

If you own a DS, there is really no reason not to pick up Trauma Center. Great gameplay, an exciting story, and a decently long, challenging quest (along with an addictive "Challenge Mode" where you can compete for better "grades" on operations) make for yet another excellent addition to the handheld's library.

A must-own for anyone with a DS.

Of course, no one should be surprised that one of the best games for the DS, if not THE best, comes from Atlus.

Those "old school" gamers who remember Life and Death from years gone by in the early days of gaming, can remember the joy of performing amateur surgeries. Take Life and Death and throw in some good old fashioned Anime stylin' and plot twists, and there you have Life and Death.

This game makes excellent use of the touch-screen on the DS. It responds perfectly. Gaming skills rise above button mashing here. You need precision and concentration in good supply -- and critical thinking, as well. While it starts out easy, the difficulty curve can be steep in parts. Hey, it's not easy to be a surgeon, right?

It's not bloodyish graphic as might be expected. It is over-simplified surgical technique (which a game obviously would be). But, that adds to the fun.

If you don't get this, you're definitely missing out. Even people I know who hate medicial stories, or hate the DS, adore this game. Well worth a try!

About as real as you can get to the operating room, while having fun as you take care of people!

Yes, I know the "play the doctor" theme has been done before, but this is the first portable one that I've heard of. I tried most of the other ones, but they lacked one MAJOR thing that is important for all games - fun.

I saw this game at the store and needed something to keep me busy in my downtime while I was on vacation and to be honest, its probably one of the best games I've bought for the DS overall.

Now I actually work in the medical field, so some of the things they had you doing with the stylus on patients was funny to me. If all it took was the squiggle back and forth of a magic pen to suture up a wound, operations in real life would take no time at all! lol. They can be tricky in real life, but with practice it gets easier and easier; just like this game. The other funny thing was the miracle-gel that disinfects skin and heals minor wounds instantly. Someone could become a billionare if this gel was actually invented, as I know just about every hospital in the world would be using it!

Although the procedures in the game and methods you use to take care of and operate on patients are pretty fictional (especially the virus, but I don't want to spoil anything), I gotta admit the stress is very believable. Not just stress from losing a patient and getting the "game over try again?" screen either :P. Throwing multiple things wrong with the patient all at once, requiring you to deal with the most life-threatening problem first, is exactly how you deal with patients in real life.

All in all, I gotta say this is a very fun game that I just could not put down when I first got it - and still even go back to it from time to time. I showed it to a bunch of people I work with at the hospital and they all went and picked up a nintendo DS just for that game since they liked the concept, and had a good laugh about performing the procedures like I did :).

Bottom line: if you want a great DS game that will keep you busy for a while, try this. You'll learn a little bit about medicine while you're playing it too!

Definately a new twist on gaming

I've heard so much about this game and found it so interesting that I just had to get it. Searched high and low for it for so long and never found it. Finally I took my baby cousin to toys r us the other day and decided to look at the video games to see if the had it. Not only did they have it, but it was the last one too. WOOHOO!

Now....to actually talk about my review. Really is an awesome game. Even my mom likes it. The only flaw is that it's very difficult (reason for the 4 star rating). Seemes like you can't take your eyes away from the game without your patient slipping away. It's taken several tries but I'm finally getting the hang of it.

I've been hearing that some stores are banned from selling this game or just discontinued it. Anyone know if that's true?

The true DS title

I recently bought this game and was never fond of DS games requiring the use of the stylus. Well after I played this one, it totally changed my perspective. This game made great use of the touch screen. You have to perform various different operations given a specified amount of time. Great game, great story, great use of the touch screen. Highly recommend.

kind of hard, but fun

I bought this game because i thought it would be fun to play along with the story like in the sims2 for ds. The beginning went well, the operations are fun. The story drags a little and goes too slow, i actually skipped part of the story and just did the operations. The operations get your heart pumping and are somewhat stressful. i am stuck on the 6th one. i have been trying to complete it for a few weeks now, but continuously fail. Unfortunetly you cannot go any further until you complete them in order. i dont know if i will be able to play this game any further.

A very HARD game, but a surgeon's life is never easy.

I'll keep this short. Trauma Center is a unique game, and it is indeed really fun. The only caveat is that it is not easy. Even the first few operations will make you tear your hair in frustration. But it is worth it. The rewarding sensation you get when you beat each mission is not to be forgotten.

great game but really difficult

trauma center is a great game and its very unique. the touch screen makes the game. I also have this game on the wii but the ds version is way harder for some reason. it would have been better if you could change the difficulty like on the wii version. still, it is an excellent game.
