Spider-Man: The Sinister Six.

INTRODUCTION:
Over the years, I have become a rather big fan of the Spider-Man series. It's hard to believe that the comic book series Stan Lee created several decades ago that no one thought would succeed has become one of the most popular ones of all time. Even long before the feature films gave the franchise a much-needed popularity boost, many games based on Spidey existed. One of the first to hit a Nintendo system was Sinister Six for the NES. Read on for my review!

OVERVIEW:
Spider-Man: The Sinister Six was released only for the NES. The game is single-player, and features side-scrolling action.

REVIEW:
Ugh... I love Spider-Man, but this game is terrible. The game features side-scrolling action, and a ton of villains from the comic... so what's wrong with it, you ask? What's wrong? EVERYTHING. Basically, everything you could possibly screw up in a video game, this game does. The graphics are absolutely horrible - the games released at the dawn of the NES, simplistic as they may have been, were better than this. The play control is horrible, in that the button most gamers are used to using for attack is used to jump here, and vice versa. Choppy resolution and lots of slow-down only adds to the overall crappy nature of the game. The action itself is painfully generic. The only thing that sets this apart from other games is your ability to fire your web, which is a bigger pain to do than it should be. As for good things about this game... let me think... It's a Spider-Man game! That's a good thing, isn't it? There's little redeeming value in this game, even to die-hard Spidey fans. Really, this is a game for collectors only.

EDITION NOTES:
The same thing that's true of all other NES games is true of this one - it's long since out of print, but you're bound to come across copies of the game at a local used games store that markets NES games. You may have to search for it a little, and trust me - it's NOT worth searching or paying for.

OVERALL:
Spider-Man rules, but this game sucks. If you want good Spider-Man games from an older era, check out Maximum Carnage and Separation Anxiety, both of which were available for the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo. They weren't released too long after this game, and are many times better. Sinister Six sucks. Don't waste your time and your money.
