After waiting so long for this game, my son tired of it quickly. I don't know if it is maybe too difficult for him but he wanted to sell it 2 days after opening it.

The best Pokemon game ever!!!!!

I've played a bunch of Pokemon games on the GBA, DS, and GameCube, and this is my FAVORITE! You get to go on rescue missions, and if you get more rescue points, you get higher ranks. You start out as a Pokemon, with a partner, and you are able to unlock more dungeons as the storyline progresses. I have unlocked every single dungeon, gotten to Lucario rank, the highest rank available. I've recruited almost every legendary Pokemon, and gotten around 600,000 Poke, which is an extremely large amount of money in this game. The dungeons are randomized with random items, and Pokemon. I haven't stopped playing Pokemon Mystery Dungeon since I got it in September! If you buy this game you'll be so excited about it you won't be able to wait to see what happens next!

I have read other reviews about how you can sit back and let the AI take over, unfortunatley mine rarely seem to fight, they just sit, back. Also frequently you have to lug along a really weak pokemon, to "help rescue a friend". Unfortunatley these really weak ones DO like to fight and are constantly getting into a battle and getting killed even when you just want to protect them. This is extremely frustrating. A bit more control over the rest of the party would make this game MUCH better.

You can be a Pokemon

My 10-year-old son says:

The main difference between this game and other Pokemon games is that you are NOT a trainer but a Pokemon! Making friends and collecting different items somehow seems more fun. To start with, the items you can get include a variety of orbs (not red or blue) but luminous orbs or escape orbs and other new types.

You can become your friends, including legendaries, which is a lot of fun.

This is a great continuation of the Pokemon games.

My daughter is only allowed to play with her DS for a short time every day. She has chosen this game every time!

This game takes a distinct turn away from the standard Pokemon series, but in a masterfully done way.

The player is cast as the main character, a human that has been transformed into a Pokemon. The story revolves around this mechanic and only grows stronger the further along in the game you get. The player will be faced with quite a few morality teaching problems, but it isn't presented in a way that talks down to the player.

This game is also a Rogue-like, a type of game that randomly generates the dungeons on the fly. You will never see the same map twice, which aids tremendously to the replay value.

The game also has some internet play ability, where you can rescue and be rescued by another player utilizing in game messaging systems. And as always with Pokemon games, there are a huge number of creatures to find and befriend. The difference here is that you do not use the Pokeballs of other games in the series, so there is no implied slavery (as some see it).

A truly great game, well deserving of praise.

This is like the best game EVER!!!!!

This game was so great! I love pokemon, and when I heard they were coming out with a DS Version I bought it as soon as it came out! Sure the game play is WAY different, (WARNING to all of you expecting a game like Red and Blue!) but it was so worth it and if you have it DON'T GIVE UP!!! It gets hard at times, but hang in there! Good luck! And if you don't have it and if you love pokemon, or even if you don't buy this game!!

This game is very fun. Before you beat Rayquaza, the game's fun, but after? YES! You can play as different Pokemon, including Legendary Pokemon. I just recently recruited a Zapdos onto my team, and it is my strongest Pokemon at level 45! It takes a while to recruit the legendaries, but its worth it! You can do more than ever thought in this game, and if the starter Pokemon there are not your forte, that beat the game and recruit your favorite Pokemon and you can play as it! Very very very fun game! A must buy for DS owners!
