I got this game for free. Don't pay money for it!!! Like other reviewers said, it's Pictochat with avatars. If it used WFC, it might be cool, but it's only DS-to-DS, so it's pointless.

Pictochat.. with shopping!

It's a chat game that lets you draw pictures. But... the DS already COMES with a game that lets you chat and draw pictures! Just use that!

The one fun aspect of this game is that you get to dress up a character that represents you when you talk to your friends. But really, none of my friends have this game, so it's pretty much pointless and boring.

boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Ping Pals Won't Earn DS Owners Many Friends" Although the Nintendo DS is at it's heart a revolutionary step forward in gaming tech, the major problem with it's feature rest in support.

Release titles for the NDS were scanty, and though there were a few hard-hitters there were just as many that leave gamers scratching their heads and asking why. Therein lies the flaw with Ping Pals, an upgrade of sorts for the Nintendo DS's built-in standard Picto-chat feature.

The major problem with Ping Pals is that it is technically a game, not a software patch. Which makes it incompatible with normal Picto-chat. Anyone who owns a DS will attest that it's hard enough to find someone in chat mode within 65 feet without also requiring them to be running the same game. But as you'd expect, Ping Pals does support the DS Download Play system which would allow a friend to download the game and then chat with you.

However, that leads us into the second problem. The allure of Ping Pals comes from the customization of the chat experience. Namely Avatars, Music, Backgrounds and textured 'paper' on which to write. However anyone who downloads the game from you won't be able to see or use any of these features. And as you may or may not have expected, these add-ons don't come free. You must use in-game money to purchase items, which can be earned in a variety of ways, most of them painful. Additionally, all the items are very expensive. Many times, you will see an item which is a lot of money, spend hours playing and finally buy it only to find out you hate how it looks. And you can't return it, only sell them to other Ping Pals which can be quite frustrating.

All in all, despite it's total uselessness, Ping Pals does have have a few redeeming factors. You do earn a weekly allowance if you log on the first day you booted up the game, and it's not too shabby. Also some items are only available on special days at certain times, so if you're a collector, you need to log on often. So basically the customizable Avatar is the only saving grace.

Ping Pals for the DS gets a pathetic 2/5 stars.

Fun...at first.

When you first get the game, it seems really fun, and it is for the first three weeks. You're thrilled by the mini-games, and you go wild when you get your allowance, but when you really get your avatar how you want it to look, there's really no point unless you have several friends that have this game. If you do, great fun, but if you don't, you can't play two of the mini-games. My advice: either get it as cheap as possible with no intention to keep it for more that a month, or make a friend get it with you.

Even if it was free I wouldn't want a copy of Ping Pals........

Unless it would go toward a bonfire. Seriously, this game is the worst game I have every played in my life, and when I think of a bad game, this one comes to mind. EGM actually gave it two 0.0 and a 1.5. Sad. But then again, I don't think that this game dosen't even deserve a rating, other than "steaming pile of a fat 80 year old middle school dropout's [deleted by amazon]". Thus, this game dosen't even deseerve to exist. Pictochat, which THQ ripped off, is better, and that's free. But maybe you want some more explaining. Here you go

Fun chatting through great-looking 16-bit character animations
Everyone in Pin Pals is represented by an avatar you can dress up and customize
Try to upgrade your avatar by earning cool points - collect, trade, chat and play minigames to win
Supports the single cartridge multiplayer function -- 15 people can play through a single cartridge

The avator is so ugly, it is just pointless. And the single chat function is terrible. Why would you even consider talking to A.I. avators. There's also less functions in the game as well. Less characters, smaller keyboard, and only one pencil width. Pictochat has all this. Who wants to buy clothes for that tiny picture anyway? I will warn you, do not buy this game. IF you do, you are buying a product that falls in the same catergorie as kidz bop. Simplified and kiddy mess. kidz bop is a terrible music series, and to be honest, I don't like Pictochat. Unless you want to draw stupid pictures, than don't bother. Just don't get this. YOu will regret it. Unless your a moron and actually like this lame kiddy image, than save your money and buy Brain Age or Big Brain Academy instead. If you already have it........just save your money, period.

IF YOU BUY THIS, AND LIKE IT, YOU ARE AN IMBECILE

Only fun with others who own it

I bought it and played it for a while, but the games get repedative. There are games you can send to another DS, but your friend will show up as a default generic character. Unless you know someone else with the game all the trading of outfits and items isn't even an option. It's really cheap most places, so if you buy it for yourself, buy a 2nd copy for a friend. I ended up selling it.

One of the first DS games, but still one of the best!

Ping Pals was one of the first games out for the DS, but yet it still stands as one of the best titles the system has to offer. What you basically get is the cool Pictochat software, but SO MUCH BETTER! In Pictochat it just says your name before what you say, in Ping Pals you get to choose a cool avatar and dress it up and everything! Nintendo saw how cool this was and stole the idea for the Mii channel on the Wii. You can also choose cool fonts and colors for your writing and draw some pretty neato pictures! One time me and my friend got in a fight so I sent him a picture of an ugly funny face and wrote "YOU" with an arrow pointing to his face. It was hilarious! Bottom line, if you own a DS, you must own Ping Pals!

Good Game!

I've never played this game myself, but my friend loves it. She enjoyed all the mini games and chatting with people. I think she would give it 4 stars, though, because it isn't really a game, and there are funner games for the nintendo ds.

Yes or No

this game is fun but threre is realy no point. All you realy do is talk with fake people and you can say yes or no. You can also get points to customize your screen and person. THQ put many chatrooms in but if there is no one is like the same room of course all you can do is say yes or no.
