Tiki the Kiwi returns!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1
Date: April 02, 2008

Tiki the kiwi and his friends were just enjoying a normal afternoon when suddenly their gathering is interupted by a large leopard seal. He steals Tiki's friends, and now it is up to you to rescue them!

If you have played the original Taito arcade game you know what to expect. The same colourful graphics, catchy theme music, and adorable characters are all still present. You go through various maze like levels trying to reach one of Tiki's little buddies at the end. Tiki fights several enemies, some comical bosses (one inside a whale), and is given a variety of weapons and a few different vehicles for his journey. The game has a relatively simple premise, but is fun and enjoyable to play. Don't let the cute graphics discourage you, this is a wonderful platformer that is worth the time. Sort of like Ghouls n Ghosts without that game's trademark devastating diffuculty.

The only complaint, and it is a minor one, is the introduction of mini games that are played with the DS stylus. While some are fun to play, others like the "Spot the Difference" seem pointless and take you out of the game. Developers sometimes feel like they need to introduce the unique control scheme the DS has with the stylus, but like the Wiimote, it doesn't always pull through.

Despite the minor flaw I recommend the game for fans looking for something retro and for fans of platform games in general. It's a solid game for a decent price. Besides, how can you say no to that face?

Cute little game

This was a cute little DS game. I will be honest, I really only bought it because it was New Zealand related. You play a (yellow with wings?) kiwi who has to rescue his friends by traveling to a few different NZ areas and shooting the bad guys or avoiding them by floating around.
I beat this game in a few hours and I am not all that great at video games. It was fun to pass the time and I did enjoy the NZ tie-ins.
Overall this game would be good for the younger crowd or those that don't want much of a challenge... or those like me that are simply seeking out NZ stuff they can buy in the US :)
