A true gem....

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

This is probably one of the greatest games on the NES, I remember a long time ago when I was about 4 or 5 I'd often find myself playing this rather than Zelda!! This game as well as it's creator Hudson Soft deserve alot of credit, this is a truely special game from a company that doesn't normally make RPG's. Unfortunatly this game was heavily overshadowed by games like Zelda, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Warrior. That's truely a shame because this is a gem and I encourage anyone that has a nostalgic bone in their body to purchase this game, you won't be dissapointed.

Ok now that that's settled on to buisness.

Faxanadu is a sidescrolling RPG in which you travel to different villages in search of a antidote to the poisoned water in your village Eolis. You can talk to people by entering homes and the ensuing conversation can look rather comical because the person's face that appears next to the text animates to look like it's speaking (remember this is the NES were talking about here hahaha).

You can also purchase magic and weapons in the villages to help you defeat the legions of difficult monsters that you'll encounter as you traverse through the game. This game can be very difficult too because the enemies will relentlessly pursue you, but Hudson Soft made sure that the controls were pretty solid so that's a big plus. The bosses can be especially tough so you need to save as much gold as possible to get the best spells and weapons to brandish (oh and let's not forget about potions and the like).

The music is interesting and suits the situations that your in, whether your in caves, out on the land, in villages, etc. The boss music is something I remember very clearly and it has very evil sound to it, fitting of course.

I hope people will find this review helpful (since I'm the first to post for this game which is shocking to me) and that it will encourage you to buy this game. This is my first review on Amazon.com and I tried my best on this review in a very limited time frame. ^_-
