Very solid, entertaining game

I needed a racing fix for PS2, and this game seemed to fit the bill more than any other currently available. As mentioned in the other reviews, this is much more of a "sim" racing game than an arcade style. As a die-hard fan of Gran Turismo, this is exactly what I was looking for, as I don't much care for arcade-style racing.

The graphics on this game are some of the best. Some slight "jaggies", but not any worse than any other PS2 game. The replays... oh, boy the replays... Simply incredible. These are the most realistic replays of any game to date.. period. All videogame enthusiasm aside, there are moments in the replays that you WON'T REALIZE that it's a videogame. It's that good.

And it plays as good as it looks. As soon as you can get used to the fact that you're racing bikes instead of cars, you'll be zooming around the track in 1st place. For die-hard racing fans, I suggest using the "Easy" setting for practice and training only. After having the game only a couple of hours, I dominated a whole season. The "Normal" setting is much more like the games I'm used to playing, where skill takes precedence over speed. In the season, you probably won't win every race, but stay in the top 5 consistently, and you've got a good shot at the championship.

My only gripe about the game is the lack of tracks. There's only five tracks, and I'm not sure if there's more "hidden" tracks or not. I'm still feverently hoping to find Laguna Seca somewhere on the disc (as I know they do bike races there).

All in all, this is an excellent racing game. For fans of sim-style racers, you won't want to pass this one up. Arcade-style fans will probably want to leave this one on the shelf, but then, you've got Ridge Racer to fall back on.

This game is GREAT fun if you're any sort of race-game enthusiast. We ride motorcycles and got this immediately to see how well it did. We were extremely impressed.

You start out naming your character, giving it a nationality, and choosing your helmet. There are a variety of ways to play - time trials, tournament play, challenges, arcade style, or 'realistic'. You can choose automatic or manual shifting, and there is a wide variety of bikes available from Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and other lesser known brands.

The graphics are simply stunning. You easily start to feel that you really are on a motorcycle, watching the suspension work and the rear wheel kick out. The replays are gorgeous to watch, and almost feel like a real motorcycle race. I'm tempted to show a replay to a friend casually and see how long it takes them to realize it's a game.

The racers you compete with are all named racers from the real world, and as you complete bonus challenges you get to see fun photos of them playing the game. They obviously put a lot of work into this, between the accurate gameplay and great graphics.

On the downside, there are only five tracks, and the racers aren't using real racing techniques - they ride single file most of the time, not passing each other or riding in groups like they would in a real race. Still, with everything this game has achieved, I'd be hard pressed to complain at all.

I think this game is for fans of motorcycle racing in some ways, but in other ways it's for video game fans. People who don't understand how the real riders go so fast find it harder to control the bikes, especially with simulation turned on. High-side crashes occur frequently when you apply the throttle mid-corner, but that makes the game incredibly intoxicating! Learning to control lurid, smoking, wheelspinning slides is the most fun you can have sitting in front of the TV. The replays of the races are great, and even the gameplay graphics are accurate and detailed. It would be nice, however, if there were more than 5 tracks. Say, 16 or so? Oh well, it's still one of the most entertaining games ever.

Moto GP was to me, a disappointing Motorcycle racing experience. The graphics are fantastic but aside from this, I didn't find too much to be impressed by. This game focuses too much on Simulation than the arcade style gameplay. There are only 5 tracks which limits the replay value.

Although there are plenty of switchable options such as a large amount of Motorcyles and Helmets, this just doesnt enhance the gameplay.

I believe a true motorcycle rider and fans of these types of simulations will get a lot of enjoyment out of this title, however to the average gamer who is looking for a great arcade style motorcycle racing experience would be better served by MotoRacer for the Playstation.

I have little experience with console racing games. I've only had my PS2 for a few months and this was one of the first games I bought. It's a blast to play. Maybe it's because I don't have alot of experience with other race games but I didn't find the controls any harder to learn than any other game. If you start out slow and practice a little you'll find yourself powersliding in no time.

There are only five tracks but I found that progressing up through the difficulty levels is challenging enough to keep the game fun through several replays. The two player mode is also good for challenging friends over and over. The only trouble I've had is with the simulation mode. It's almost too touchy for me and I have trouble keeping my touch light enough. Too much gas in a turn and you lay it down way too easily.

The graphics are beautiful. I find the rider's eye view to be a little dizzying and prefer the behind the bike view. The replays are a real joy to watch and they allow you to save some of your favorites. You can watch yourself wheelie out of a power slide over and over.

One problem I have with the game is that there seem to be several rewards for meeting challenges but they are few and far between. It looks like there are a few more tracks to unlock but I haven't been able to get any of them yet. I haven't done much racing in the expert level yet however.

All in all this is a lot of fun. I've since bought CART Fury which is fun in it's own right but this is still my favorite of the two. I would recommend it to anyone who likes motorcycles and racing games.

I am a teenager who is not really into racing games, until I played this. At first, I thought this game was very hard, until I got used to the controls, which only took like 2 races. I am amazed by the graphics. The instant replay is to die for. This game is very fun, and is a good game to rent or buy.

Moto GP does an admirable job of balancing arcade and sim elements in a motorcycle racing game. This, however, will drive you mad- the learning curve is steep enough that arcade racing fans may give up on it, but at the same time, the adjustments that you make to tune your bike to the course don't seem to do anything at all. The graphics are GEORGEOUS. This is the first game I've ever played where I would actually sit through the replay mode. I've seen races on TV that didn't look this good. The tracks(only five of them!!) are very realistic, but don't be surprised when the AI bikes just ram you out of the way when they want to pass. Overall, I'd say this game was worth a rental.

This game is very fun. It is a little hard to get used to controlling the bikes, but once you get the hang of it, it is quite easy. You can learn how to play the game in an hour or two, but it will take you a lot longer to master the game. There are many real bikes/riders like Kenny Roberts on the Suzuki RGV, or Mick Doohan on the Honda NSR500. There are also five real tracks like the Donnington Circuit and the Suzuka Circuit. I definately recommend this game if you like motorcycles, or if you just like racing games.

This game is awesome ,it takes some practice but once you master the bike you can rock-n-roll , best part is no announcer with annoying comments ,I highly recommend this one its a blast and well worth the bucks,,,,

I'm a big fan of motorcycle gp racing and after seeing this game I immediately picked it up. Moto Grand Prix has all the famous 500cc racers from the late 90's season; Mick Doohan, Max Biaggi, Norick Abe. The graphics are really done well. The colors are sharp and the graphics run very fast, utilizing the most from the P2 platform. Some aspects of the game could be improved. It would be nice if the game AI corresponded to each famous rider instead of all being just mindless racers. Another thing was that it was almost impossible to break or accelerate smoothly throughout the game. To make turns greater than 45 degrees, you almost always needed to come to a complete stop. One thing I liked was that you could tweak the chasis of your bike.Brakes, acceleration, handling all came to play if you want to win races. Playing a season also had the aspect of having contracts to ride one of the many factory or privateer bikes. A rewarding experience if you are a big fan of Motorcycle gp racing. You can ride with your gp heroes on factory bikes or try to win on an up and coming privateer bike. It is an enjoyable game that can only get better with the sequels...(They'll have to change the bikes to become 4 stroke 1000cc models for the next upcoming GP season.)
