Finally, a Fantastic Game

For anyone who's played the last Fantastic Four (for the original Playstation) you know FF fans have been waiting a LONG time for a decent Fantatstic Four game. Thankfully, we get one that goes well beyond decent.
It's hard to imagine the same company published both of them. Whereas the old FF game was repetitive and the use of the FF's powers rather unimaginitive, the new game uses the FF's powers to full effect.
The graphics (both in game and in the cinematics) are better then average. It's great that the main cast did the voices for the game as they sound great. Each character has their own interesting moves. Mr. Fantastic is the most surpisingly fun, with the ability to stretch, send out exploding spider-machines that act as mines, and create a whirl-wind attack with his fists. Sue can turn invisible as well as command a near indestructible force-field around herself. She can also use this to pick up and throw objects. Johnny hovers in the air, and can be a bit unweildy in his movements at first because they are so rapid. But once you get the hang of him, he's fun. You can fly around, throwing fireballs or creating a tornado of fire. Ben is a huge bruiser of a character. He's a lot of fun to use as he's not horribly slow like some large characters in videogames can be. He has some great grapple/attack actions as well as the ability to swing cars around to attack enemies!
In addition to each individual character attacks, each character has unique abilities they can perform during the course of the game, relying on their powers. This is a way to showcase the powers that can't really translate into mere button-mashing. Reed can "hack" into computer systems with a mini-game, Thing can do some MAJOR damage, etc.
I've not played through all of the game just yet, but the attacks you can use and the enemies are varied enough that it hasn't gotten boring. The game goes well beyond the movie's scope and has the FF jetting off to all sorts of locations. There is definitely replay value, as you are scored and you can unlock a lot of extras by searching for F4 Secrets. Also, you can choose how to spend upgrades so that you can juice up the power on the characters or watch some neat bonus materials.
Peope are saying the game takes about 5 - 10 hours to complete depending on whether you seek out the extras or not. While not that huge, it's a respectable length for today's action games.
The unique 4-character mode of play is fun. Pioneered by X-men Legends (also published by Activision), you can switch between the members of the Fantastic 4 at the mere hit of the direction pad button. This is extremely useful in battle situations. This can make the camera whiz around until it finds the character you selected, which can be slightly disorienting. However, this is the only instance I can think of where the camera of the movie can be a problem.
All in all, an excellent action-adventure game, that continues to break the old theory that games based on movies couldn't be well done and fun.
Don't believe the hype

This is not a great game, it's not a good game, it's mediocre.
It is repetitive (to the nth degree), hard to understand what is required of the gamer, and the camera angles are hard to work with at times.
I spent too much money on this game, I read the first and only Amazon review and went out and bought it new. The previous reviewer is either an idiot or he's making money somehow.
Don't buy the game, rent it first and save some dough.

I rented this game yesterday and played it today and I was impressed but not by much it's just kind of like X-Men Legends the screens being able to play all four characters but in X-Men you get to play 16 different characters but only 4 at a time, but my point is, is that it's OK but not as good as X-Men Legends, but I do recommend renting it before buying it.

All I have to say is this - Waste of Time.
Considering this game is made by the same people that created X-Men Lengends, this game was a grave disappointment. The characters were cool enough to control, but I found the game play to be terrible.
The cameras were set-up so poorly. They were designed so you could orient yourself around the character - good luck.
At one point during the Moleman mission, the game was so poorly set-up that going down a simple tunnel can take several minutes (for those of you with the patience to get this far, know what I'm talking about)
There are so many glitches, like backpacks just floating around the streets, boulders floating aimlessly over your head, and various other annomolies which I'm sure were not intentional.
And the co-op game play, which I was really looking forward to was not worth the effort. You only get to play as 2 of the 4 characters at a time, so which ever controller you're holding, you're stuck with that character. And because you are limited to the distance your characters can be from one another, if one of you is a one and and the other opposite, well, all and all, you're gonne get screwed - so lets just say it was easier playing in single-player. (But in single-player, you're looking from so low on the ground, good luck to seeing what is above and ahead of you.)
All-in-all, I had so many problems with this game, lets just say I returned it to the video store and rented a Lord of the Rings game instead, which, by the way, did not have such a poor set up that missions had to be played more than once.

You are on the final level of the game. You have mummies, dogs, dinoaurs, and Dr. Doom all hitting you, leaving no space to move a finger. You try jumping but they just keep attacking you. You have 50% health left, and the puzzle is only one fourths of thw way done. A mummy attacks you with his light saber. "Game Over". That is all I could remember while playing this game. I think that this is one of those one button games. I used the square button more than I used the joysticks. This game is good for those who have little ones, but not for over the age of 13. Rental suggested, buying not reccomended.

There are many, many things (oh, where to start) that make this game horrible. First, (hmmmm, I have to collect my thoughts) this entire game is button mashing. You can beat the game just hitting square, square, square. Except for the boring little mini-games where you just hit, and Im not joking here, X as fast as you can.
People praise the fact that you can switch between two characters, but I never saw a need for this, unless I needed one character to do one of those stupid pointless puzzles. But really I would just switch between characters because I got tired of using the Thing and wanted to use Mr. Fantastic.
The graphics are incredibly horrible and choppy. The game is an eyesore. Please, please, please dont buy this game. Its for your own good.
