This game is great.I played other nintendo pinball games before. This one is the BEST that I'd played. If you want a pinball game for your Ds get this one. This game doesn't get boreing. This game is like a magnet you don't want to stop playing it.It has lots of pinball courses and doesn't get reapeatitive. If you are stuck on a course it doesn't get boring because different stuff happenes in pinball.I borrowed it from afriend I'm going to buy it soon.

This game was solely responsible for me surviving my last office job as well as I did. Thanks to the DS' easy open-close, play-pause design, it is too easy to sneak in a quick level or table between phone calls or e-mails.
The game rocks the DS well. It has cool graphics that fill the top and bottom screens with table so that you don't have that timing-destructive scrolling issue as with most pinball games. There's a great deal of animation that brings the tables to life and provides a very tactile feel, especially when you have the rumble back in that comes with the game. More than mere gimmick, the pack really does give you just enough buzz to better draw you into the experience.
Sound is awesome, although the repetitive tunes might wear on you. There are quite a few voiceovers which add flavor.
Minigames are abundant, providing a welcome break during extended score-padding sessions. Boss tables are also great for breaking up the monotony. Just like in a good platformer like old-school Metroid, boss battles require some good hand-eye coordination, mastery of your weapons (it's a flipper!) and learning their weak spots and patterns. At first this turned off the pinball grognard in me who wanted a straight game, but the more I played, the more I appreciated some injections of variety.
About the only criticism I could levy would be one that is aimed at every great game: I wish there was more of it. It doesn't take very long to take down every boss and complete the requirements to "beat" the game, although the rewarding experience in doing so is well worth the ride. More tables would be a boon, though.
Also I'll say that the table-bump mechanism of the game being mapped to the touchscreen was a bad idea. It's very natural to work the flippers with the L and R buttons, but having to swing your thumb around to make a quick table-juke is more trouble than it's worth. That said, the game is more than easy enough to complete without ever tickling the tilt sensor.
I would like to see a sequel to this game, but preferably including, inherently or unlockably, the tables from the original.
Definitely one of the better games for the DS that really takes advantage of system's many great features. Highly recommended.

This is such an awesome game - so addictive -- and I am a 59 year old grandma - my grand kids love it when I show up with my Nintendo DS...

What is wrong? I don't like the Metroid Mania mode because:
1. The ball easily is lost because the ball can quickly bounce.
2. They take away health lives, and you have to use a bomb.
3. They get in the way.
I don't like Triclop Terror because:
1. Balls bounce off quickly easily.
2. They try to send the ball down the "drain".
3. They get in the way.
I don't like Phazon Multiball because:
1. It is hard.
2. One ball lost, all phazons gone.
I don't like Pirate Frigades because:
1. It is hard.
2. Everything is harder then Tallon Overworld.
I don't like wireless connection because it can say "YOU LOSE".
Bad, bad, BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly what I said on the Timeshock! review... this is considered as the best pinball ever. Alright, it's unbelievable how some people who absolutely didn't like any of the Pro Pinball series loved this one... the reason is, it's Metroid. IT'S MEANT TO BE A PINBALL, COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now please tell me what pinball has a quest with beating other people high score. LOL!!!!!!!! OK, there is a little mode where you can play normal pinball, but of course no one likes it. Looks like what people want is to play Metroid, not to play pinball. So they go for their quest. And this is the only pinball game they like. This is the biggest insult to the pinball games. (Actually I prefer Tommy's Flipout, at least it tries to get closer to a real pinball...)
True pinball fans, go for Pro Pinball:The Web/Timeshock!/Big Race USA/Fantastic Journey, or Slamtilt, or Addiction Pinball, or Pinball Dreams/Fantasies/True Pinball to play REAL pinball. Don't follow the others by buying this c... (I say this to true pinball fans, not to Metroid fans)
Thanks for reading.

4 star rating overall? Get off the pipe dudes!
I know the only reason you bought this was for the Rumble Pak, what a rip, Nintendo better start letting you buy that thing seperatly from this game!
If I want to play Pinball, I'll go to an arcade, god...
2 stars for the rumble pak
0 for the game
Fun, but hard.

I loved this game from the start, but I was never able to get past the first two tables. It might be just a touch on the hard side.
Too complicated

Metroid Pinball is a well executed game with smooth play and good graphics. But it is just too complicated for a pinball game. There are too many non pinball modes that had me reaching for the manual to figure out what to do. I would rather they give us more table layouts than just the 2 in the game. In my opinion, portable games should be simple and easy to pick up. This game was by no means simple.

Great fun. I would be helpful to know how to do the wall jump thing. Any suggestions? I'm sure there are more areas I haven't unlocked yet, but I'll keep working on it. I just wish I could save the game, it takes awhile to get the first four tables and by the time I get to the artifact table, I usually have to stop.
