I bought this game strictly because of the awesome reviews I have read about it. When I got it and popped it into my DS I was slightly disappointed. The story mode is absolutely useless. There are 3 modes where you travel to different planets, but it's generally all the same thing. There is nothing motivating you to keep going. I enjoyed playing against my friend who owns a DS, but other then that, this game doesn't really hold it's own. I tend to gravitate toward puzzle games that have story lines like 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. I am a huge puzzle fan and Meteos just doesn't hold it's own in my opinion. The graphics and sounds are cute though. Not horrible, just not the best.

Both me and my fiance had difficulty picking this up to play. I'm ashamed to admit it, but we actually had to look at the game manual. Once we got it down we've had a lot of fun playing this. We're still not sure exactly what we're doing, but we've been making new planets and going cross-eyed and having a blast doing it.

I'm an adult and bought this game for myself several months ago because I like puzzle games. I was disappointed with this one. I just found it too stressful because you have to think really fast in order to win. It also got difficult very quickly. I prefer games where I can observe the situation and ponder what the best move is. I wasn't having fun with this one and so it has been "shelved".
If you like puzzle games, my favorites DS ones are Clubhouse Games and Puzzle Quest - I could play them for hours at a time and not get bored!

Normally I'm not a huge fan of puzzle games. But there's just something about this game that makes me love it. Maybe it's the music, which is different on every planet and is directly controlled by the gameplay. Maybe it's the tactile sensation of the stylus based control. Maybe it's just fun to launch things into the sky. Whatever the reason, this game is very, very fun. Essentially, meteors are raining from the sky in the shape of squares, and you use the stylus to align them into groups of three vertically of horizontally. Once they're aligned, they ignite and launch upwards, taking with them all the other Meteos on top. The twist is that every planet has a different gravity. Some favor horizontal launches, some favor vertical. Some make you start other ignitions while the Meteos are mid-air. The stylus controls are very good, and it seldom moves the wrong block. The game is surprisingly deep, and adds a layer of replay value in that you unlock other planets by buying them with Meteos you've launched. You can use these new planets to play a single player game to earn more Meteos or to play wireless multiplayer. Both of which are very fun. Basically, Meteos is a very solid puzzle game that'll leave you addicted, and has great replay value. Give it a try. Even if you don't normally like puzzle games, chances are you'll like this game.
One of the best puzzle games for the DS

Meteos is a game that stands head and shoulders above most of the other puzzle games on the DS. When you consider just how many puzzlers exist for the DS you'll realize that's a pretty strong statement, but of all the puzzlers I've seen and played for the handheld system I'd rank Meteos very near the top.
Audience: This is a puzzle game that requires fast reflexes and the ability to use the stylus with some precision. It probably won't be for everyone since coordination (or lack thereof) with the stylus is such a big part of the game. Still, any fan of puzzle games or anyone who likes Tetris or just wants something to kill a little time should find this game appealing.
Graphics and Sound: The graphics on this game are excellent. It would seem that graphics wouldn't make much of a difference for a puzzle game, but the great graphics for Meteos would suggest otherwise. The blocks vary from planet to planet but all look great, the cutscenes and background from space are very attractive, and the animations and explosions are very well done. The soundtrack is also very good.
Gameplay: While the basic gameplay for Meteos is very simple it, like all great puzzle games, takes a long time to fully master. The concept is easy to get the hang of--you can drag blocks up or down in columns using the stylus to line up groups of 3 (either horizontally or vertically). Lining 3 blocks up 'ignites' them, meaning they explode and the blocks above them are propelled upwards. The object is to send as many blocks as possible up, and once they reach the top of the screen they disappear and are "collected," both as a means for keeping score on whatever stage you're on and also for future use.
Meteos you've 'collected' are saved according to color (each color represents an element or basic material) and stored for future use. You can use these meteos, acquired from any of the many gameplay modes, to 'create' (unlock) new planets, items, and rare materials. Each planet has a different composition of materials, a different gravitational pull (this affects the blocks you send into the sky when you ignite a row of 3 meteos), and offers a very different experience, so these planets are worth unlocking.
Control: This game is played entirely with the DS stylus. Whereas some games seem to throw stylus control in as an afterthought, the whole gameplay of Meteos revolves around it. Precision is very necessary when using the stylus for this game, however, and at times I find myself grabbing the wrong block.
Challenge: There are so many modes of gameplay available in Meteos that there is always something challenging to do. You can scale the difficulty in many of the games, though with some of them the blocks just keep getting faster and faster until you eventually lose. Some modes are actually pretty easy, but some offer such a challenge that I'm not sure how anyone can handle the highest difficulty settings.
Multiplayer: Up to 4 people can play with one cartridge. I consider this a must with puzzle games like this, and Meteos delivers.
Meteos is definitely one of those must own games if you're into puzzlers, and should be at least considered by anyone who owns a DS. This game is relatively difficult to find as of this writing, and for good reason--it's an absolute classic.

This game is a puzzle game. I personally feel that the reviews are too over-rated for what it's worth. It's kind of like Bejeweled except you can only line up blocks vertically, and not horizontally, which kind of bothers me. There's not really a storyline ... it's not incredibly fun, but will probably last you a fairly good ten minutes of game play. It's really the effects when you line up the same colored blocks and the sounds and graphics that give you that "high" of the game.

This game is very difficult and is up there with Tetris. I actually think it is much more difficult to keep up with Meteos, but it's a great game and you'll definitely enjoy playing.

Meteos is a really fun and addictive puzzler with plenty of unlockable features that will keep you playing for hours on end. The premise of Meteos is simple, you line up blocks of "Meteos", (which are basically meteors that rain down from the evil planet Meteos) either horizontally or vertically and blast them back into space towards enemy planets. What really makes Meteos unique and fun are the diverse levels, each level representing a certain planet. I found the level designs (levels range from mechanized planets, an earth like planet, and even a bubble planet) and music (music ranges from classical style to techno) unique and the more you play Meteos the more chance you have at unlocking more planets and other features, such as music, weapons, and new elements. Each planet also has its unique set of gravity which effects gameplay.
There are various modes of play in Meteos. You can play Simple Mode, where you basically play until either time runs out or until you lose, there is also a Star Trip mode, which is basically a story mode that pits you against various planets and depending on the route you take, you can see various endings. There is also a multiplayer mode, however I have yet to try this out. All in all, I highly recommend Meteos to the DS player, its gameplay is simple yet highly addictive, it offers loads of unlockable features, replay value is high, and the level designs and game music really take this game to a whole other level.

This is definitely one of the better games out for the Nintendo DS. I'd highly recommend this for anyone looking for an addicting puzzle game. Very fun multiplayer, lots of unlockable features, and a quick, engaging single-player mode as well.
The game play is quite hectic at first, but give it a chance, it will grow on you.
