Man! Some games really cost big bucks!!!

This one is worth it, though! I was lucky; I got mine for twenty bucks from a Walmart a few years back. An interesting and unique title which I still put in and play today, Valkyrie Profile will disappoint you if you can get a hold of it. Personally, I wouldn't let my COMPLETE, MINT game go for less than two hundred, though (that is to say, you ain't gettin' it!).

Valkyrie Profile follows the last days before ragnarok, the end of the world. You play as Lenneth, one of three valkyries who must gather the souls of the powerful slain to fight for the Aesir in their final struggle against the Vanir (yeah, I know, they were SUPPOSED to fight the giants, but give 'em a break). Along the way, however, you may uncover clues to your own clouded existence (the choices are up to you), and in any case, you will meet many reprehensible characters who will fight by your side.

The games development system mirrors that of Star Ocean 2 (another fine game from the same makers), and the combat is incredible. Unbelievably enough, an RPG finally understood that yes, combat and levelling up COULD be interesting. In fact, no part of this game is boring. Strategic combat, good storyline (the intro is a little lengthy, however), multiple endings, choice-driven role-playing - what more could anyone ask?

But apparently, many people DID want more. This game bombed over here (unfortunate, since obviously the makers had sequel in mind, judging from the endings), but you would be very lucky to play this now. So let me say: Should this game ever find its way into your local used game store, snap it up! You'll be quite happy you did.

A great and fun game

Valkyrie Profile is a very good game. It kind of reminds me of Saga Frontier 2. It is kind of cool being different people such as gods. It has a little bit of the animation in Legend of Mana an Saga Frontier 2. The battle system is very fun. There are 3 modes Easy, Normal, and Hard.I suggest you start out with normal or easy.

When I first herd of it I thought it would be a rip off but then I heard that it was great. It is cool playing a mythologal gods. The beginning is kind of boring because there is a lot of talking. But that brings the story along. This game is great. If you are looking for a good RPG think of this one.

Turning Back the Clock

Recently, my friend brought their PS2 with them to my home so that they could introduce me to FFX. After seeing the graphics, I was worried if I would ever be able to see Valkrie Profile in the same light that I had before and so decided to begin playing it again.

No problem. I still love the game for its concepts, its fight system, its music, and the multiple endings. When I originally saw the game, I scoured the net for places that had it, hoping that it would live up to my expectations. I've never been particularly obsessed with graphics so long as the plot was good and the character depth was not slighted. I admit that I was a bit disappointed when I discovered that they didn't keep to the old Norse myths totally (The Vanir were simply a faction of deities associated with fertility and prosperity, Freya among them Oo;). But I never expect for a game to keep to things strictly, so I wasn't overly upset by the situation.

When I discovered that Einherjar come with their own stories, I was actually giddy with delight. I'm not going to say anything else about the storyline lest I ruin it for other prospective gamers. But for those who are interested in the nuances of characters and long to find good storylines, I highly recommend this game. It's a contrast from Squaresoft's mind-boggling stories and graphics, but by no means a step backwards in game quality.

One of the best games ever made

This game is unique, something not found in the FF series. You play as a valkyrie that collects the souls of dying warriors to help in the war in Asgard. Once you get these souls, you have to go through dungeons to level them up before you can send them. The game doesn't really pick up until halfway through, but after that it is awesome. The A ending is great, the first time I ever felt something in a video game.

Worth every penny...

I bought VP right away when it came out and i'm happy i did. If you can get it, get it regardless of how expensive it is, it's worth it. Who wants to play it on the tiny PSP screen? It just doesn't do it any justice...

A 2d side scrolling rpg on the ps??

This is without a doubt the worst RPG I have played for the PS. It is painfully repetitive. Your only goal is to train dead warriors to sent up to Valhala. That battle engine make battling an incredble pain. The towns and cities are useless. All of the town folk say the same thing throught the entire game, and furthermonre, nothing they say has any bearing on the outcome of the game.
In this game you needn't search for any dungeons castles, or cites, because they are all listed on the map. The only challenge while playing this game is staying awake.

Enix/Tri-ace did it again!!! This is a Great Game!

If you are the type of gamer that can't get enough of the type of RPG that will allow you to customize your characters, level up various stats, skills, weapons and attacks and you appreciate some creative changes from the traditional RPG, then you will love what Enix/Tri-ace did with this game. Star Ocean was great too, but in Valkyrie Profile they added game features that aren't found in traditional RPG's. The side-scrolling feature adds more of an adventure aspect to walking around the dungeons and towns and the battle feature adds the almost endless customizable attack combos and options found in a fighter. The battle feature can be as simple or as detailed as you want to make it, customizing character equipment alters the number and type of attacks each character has and timing each battle members attack with other members attacks and final attacks can lead to endless ways of killing your opponent. Add that to the fact that, how you attack the enemy determines how much experience and items you get for killing the enemy, and you have the cure for the fact that most RPG's have battle systems that do not allow for many changes from "Attack - item -run -etc.". I thought Valkyrie Profile was a great game (it took a bit to get used to the battle feature but once I did, it was well worth it). If your a hardcore gamer...check it out!!! I can't wait to see what Enix/Tri-ace does next.

This is a great game. It has an epic story line to it. I beat this game a while ago, but it is EXTREMELY FUN and I recommend you buy and play this game. There are 3 different endings you can see depending on the difficulty and how well you do in the gme. If you are a HARDCORE RPG FAN, BUY THIS GAME NOW!!!!!!

Incredible game

This is a long, involved, beautifully-done (artistically and system-wise) rpg. Its a sidescroller, yes, but it has gorgeous painted backgrounds (those japanese anime artists can b awesome) and is completely nonlinear. Spells look impressive as they hog up the screen in special effects, and theres plenty of sad elements to the stories of the characters you take into your party. The first 15 minutes are kind of clunky, as you are only allowed to press a button or two, but once you enter the first dungeon, the game proper kicks in, and the fighting system is really fun, requiring you to press buttons in a slighlty fighting-game style fashion. I cant reccomend this game enough, even if it is on the outdated playstation 1.

Really sweet game.

An epic RPG set in a world of mass depression and nearly no hope. This has to be one of the best RPGs I've played in a long time. It's by the makers of Star Ocean 2, which is an incredible game. Even to todays standards, Valkyrie Profile will not disapoint. Now go buy it. You owe it to yourself.
