A great RPG for the Playstation, Star Ocean 2 features excellent gameplay and a fantastic (if practice-requiring) combat system. A deep skills/specialties system also contributes to replayability. Although it doesn't have a gripping, totally coherent plot, Star Ocean 2 is not a game to be missed. A must-own for RPG fans!
Great game with few flaws!

This Game has a great story and an excellent assortment of attacks. The Bonus Dungon is the most challanging level of any game I've ever played. Sound isn't that great, but not nessary for game. Over 100 hours of fun.

This game is great because of the almost unlimited creation possibilities and also, the difficulty is emense. The 108 endings don't hurt either. If you need a game that will keep you entertained for a while and is fun, then get this one
Once you get envolved, drop your plans.

This game is tremendous. It takes a while to learn the Skills/Specialties system, but once you do, these add so much to the depth of the game. Also, a hidden dungeon after you've completed most of the game adds more replay value, as it's harder than any other RPG dungeon. Gamers beware... cuz if you get hooked, your plans will go out the window.
You don't play this game, you live it!

If you like immersive RPG's, then Star Ocean's the Second Story is for you. Your new home is the planet Expel and you must occasionally return to this old reality to take care of things (such as going to work) to allow you to continue chasing down the Sorcery Globe or the evil Ten Wise Men with your new friends Claude, Rena, Celine, etc.! All kidding aside, this game is quite immersive and long. The graphics are decent and the story is deep and enjoyable. The game offers a mix of familiar gameplay features as well as some revolutionary features that should set the standard for RPG's of the future. I can't wait to see how the innovations in this game are improved upon in future games (maybe such as Star Oceans 3 for the Playstation 2) to make future RPG's breathtaking eperiences!

Ever see this equation? Two disks + two characters + over eighty endings = one great game. Yesiree, besides the impressive numbers, Star Ocean has another charm, addictive as it is, awesome as it may be. There aren't many games out nowadays about storyline and character development, yet this one seems to be less and less like a videogame and more and more like an epic novel. Every choice you make, every turn you take, every character you invite into your party, you shape your own destiny and blaze your own trail. These characters, in terms of emotion, are no doubt about it-- Real. You develop meaningful relationships and for a moment, call me crazy, but you are that character. The game isn't without its quirks: Meaningless battles make it hard to find what you're really looking for, and even more are those annoying thought balloons that pop over character's head when they're angry, sad, surprised, or just really deep in thought. But those little flaws don't detract much from otherwise great game.
Star Ocean: A ton of fun...for a while.

I really enjoyed this game when I first got it. The many people you could have in your party, the infinite items that could be made and the captivating story line. Then...it got stale. FAST. You spend more time making items then you do actually playing the RPG part of the games. You want to strangle some of the characters, but you can't (RENA! ), and the words they put in the characters mouths...Let's just say no one really talks like that. it's like watching "Plan 9 From Outer Space." What the game lacks is pace, it makes up for in the amazing battle system and the many endings, but you may find yourself screaming, "Get on with it!"
You haven't experienced anything as much fun as this game!

The battles are inovative, the characters are fun and lovable, and the skill system revolutionizes the standard, boring, RPG menus. Not only are the skills cool, they really help. Some are just neat, but others will boost your stats! Also, learning different skills will allow you to learn Specialty skills, which in turn get you a Super Specialty. The Specialties and S. Specialties allow you to do things ranging from cooking to make health items, to weapon making, to calling various animals to help you!
Horrible game

Star Ocean 2 was a very bad game in my opinion. It's battles were dull and I felt I jus had to keep pressing the X button to attack. Characters have no development, I have no attachment to them, they're just there to fight, the only people who have a story are the two main characters and maybe a few supporting characters. The story is dull, translation isn't that good, very boring game. You are better getting Tales of Destiny, Lunar, FF8 or Suikoden 2.

yeah, nice intro, cool begining, you have 80 different endings and 2 characters to play; but there it stops in hype. The story is so typiical, the script or what they say its aweful and the action battle scenes are clumsy to use, and who would play this game 80 times to see the ending i could barley do one before going crazy with the slow and corny dialogue of the sequences, it just didnt stick to you...save your money, buy lunar trust me..
